Tape under the old fridge

This hotel definitely needs a renovation, everything is rusty and old. The ceilings are falling down, the wall paper is coming off. Very sad cause the staff is nice but Hilton should really do something about this location. Shut it down and renovate. Pics attached are just a few. I will not be staying here anymore. My recommendation to others, stay somewhere else.

Moldy window, crumbling wall under

Dirty, old, dingy room: furniture stained and old, wallpaper peeling, mold on window and crumbling wall under it, brown particles on toilet seat, door did not shut right, blood on wall. Took an earlier flight home to avoid staying another night. Asked for a refund on the 2nd night. Denied.

Room area.

Not a bad property, overall. Its slightly dated, and could use some TLC in a few areas. I was here for a couple of days in The Valley for business, and gave the DoubleTree a try. Here's my take: PROS: The customer service here is very good, from the front desk agent, room service agent, and morning breakfast staff. My 6th floor room was clean throughout, as well as quiet. The atrium area by the bar is lively on some nights with live concerts, which isn't all bad (they usually end around 8-9:00 PM. The property does have an ambiance to it with its atrium furnishings, as well as a building style that seems to convey that it used to be an Embassy Suites prior (not that there is anything wrong with that). Starbucks is downstairs adjacent next to the bar. Let me repeat that in case you skimmed over it- STARBUCKS IS DOWNSTAIRS NEXT TO THE BAR!!! What's not to love about that arrangement? CONS: Parking here is confusing. There is a garage, yet I wasn't sure if it was from the hotel, or other businesses within the area. No signage to indicate that it belonged to the DoubleTree, only to say that some parking spaces were deemed "private business." The parking around the front of the hotel is also tight, and slightly limited. Breakfast at any hotel is a pretty good value (between $12-15, depending on where you go). At this property, it was so-so. Too spicy with the sausage & omelettes, and too bland with the potatoes and eggs. All depends on the chef that day, like anywhere else. While the room service agent was professional, the margarita or Italian-thin crust pizza that I ordered was anything but. More like chewing gum with pepperoni, sausage & onion, given how chewy and under-baked the dough was. Just not very good in-house pizza, in my opinion. Also, the elevators on this property run at a ridiculously stupid slow pace. I feel that I aged a year every time that I get off. I also found the property to be slightly on the dark side with its lighting in some areas. It may be good for the honeymooners and other romantics, yet if wanting to read something? Slightly hard on the eyes. Altogether, this is a good property that could use a small bit of work done to it, but not much. I tend to think that the best hotels in The Valley are in Mission, McAllen, South Padre Island, and maybe Edinburg. McAllen seems to have always something going on in close proximity to this hotel, so there is a bit of value in staying here.

Peeling wallpaper

Go someplace else. I was treated to this stay for a business interview. They knew I was coming with my husband and 2 small children. I was told it was great for families. The room itself needs work. The wallpaper is peeling everywhere. There is rust. The drawers were dirty. The furniture was chipped. There was only an office chair available making putting a booster seat anywhere for the baby to eat very difficult. They wouldn't give us any other chairs. The doors are SO LOUD. Going in an out of any room wakes the kids up. They didn't have cribs available unlike just about every other hotel. It's supposed to be good for families but there wasn't a bathtub just a shower. Again, 2 small children. They need baths. The worst part: We found a dead cricket under the table with a USB cable that I can only assume belonged to whoever stated here before us, which means they didn't vacuum. I complained. They came up and vacuumed. And then my baby was crawling around and ended up with a pill in his mouth that he found on the floor. We're not on any medications. So even after complaining, they didn't vacuum well. And this is with covid. So who knows if they actually cleaned anything. Scary. The staff seemed nice. Offered snacks from the gift shop in lieu of the cookies since we have gluten allergies. I ordered 2 well done burgers from the 2nd street bistro and they arrived PINK on the inside. Last I checked, that's not well done. Overall a bad experience. If I paid for this stay, I'd be demanding a refund. But since it was company dollars, I just know I'll never come back.

This is a decent hotel if you're needing to stay in the area. They have a small lobby area when you walk in. If you go past that it opens to a giant atrium where there's a bar and restaurant. There's 3 elevators to take you up to rooms which helps because they move really slow. The rooms are a good size. There's a small livingroom with a kitchen/bar area. The tv in our livingroom area never worked the entire time we stayed. The bedrooms have two double beds in them. They're actually pretty comfy! The pillows however were not. They were the kind that look really fluffy and soft but the minute you lay down on them they flatten like a pancake. The bathrooms are tiny. No more than one person can stand at the sink at a time. There is a shower with a sliding door and it's a tight squeeze to step over the toilet to get into the shower. The restaurant serves a bed dry breakfast that had a good mix of items. It doesn't open till 7am though. So if you have an early flight you may just need to grab food elsewhere. Overall this was a nice place to stay. Nothing overly exciting but not overly priced and comfy.

The rooms were kind of musty and my carpet was almost damp or something. Dishes were in the hall for our entire 3day stay. Service was excellent otherwise. Would say one of the better hotels that serve breakfast. Loved the view coming down the elevator. Not sure if I would stay again or not.

No bowls, no utensils, no mugs, no food & beverage to serve with still an hour for breakfast.

Would not even give it one star if I had a choice. Rooms are cleaned only on the surface. You will find hairs on sheets, refrigerator is filthy on the inside, etc. Do not even attempt breakfast. DISASTER Managers, Fernando Rocha & Daniel Rocha, just literally standing around giving no help to the staff for breakfast.

(We got there Friday afternoon) His customer service wasn't the best but anyway moving on to the room we get to the room and turn on the AC (yes I know you need to give it time for the room to get cold) but after a couple of minutes of turning it on there was a lot of HEAT coming from the actual ac unit and smelled like something was burning! Me having 3 kids did not want them to smell that burning smell so i called William at the front desk and he told me he was going to switch me rooms. I turned off the ac and went downstairs. William then switched me to another room Right Next Door to the room that smelt like burn. 2. The new room was very poorly kept. The chair was broken. The ac was broken. There were black marks on the walls. After constantly fiddling with the ac it worked but at this point my kids were tired and ready to take a nap. So we stayed there. 3. Saturday; BOTH elevators were broken!!! This was just the icing on the cake for me. The elevator on the left was broken when we got there but the one on the right broke apparently Saturday and everytime we had to go to our room we had to go to the third floor with 3 kids. One is an infant so of course we had to go up the stairs carrying her! Keep in mind it's sooo hot outside and there NO AC IN THE STAIRWELL!!! 4. Finally, Sunday I was ready to leave this hotel! When checking out I showed all pictures to Marcelino (new front desk) (his attitude was much more empathetic and sweet) I always take pictures of things that were broken/wrong with the room the day I go to it. And he had no words for why the room was so poorly kept. Yes bed was comfy, location was the only good thing about this hotel but tbh I rather drive all over town to get to the mall or anything than to stay here again. The amount I paid is ridiculous due to the conditions of this whole hotel! Never have I been to a la Quinta with these poor conditions .

I stayed here in two separate occasions on April 12 for an overnight business trip and April 27-29 for a short business trip. The first experience (April 12, 2026; room 310) I had here was not good. Lots of beat up furniture, peeing paint, stained curtains, dirty bathtub and random body hair on fresh towels from when I just walked into the room. I just sucked it up and stayed in my room because I was in it for less than 12 hours anyways. The second experience (April 27-29, 2026; room 324) was a bit different but oddly similar at the same time. I had to message the Hilton text chat to see why my room wasn't ready after the check in window had gone. They told me the room I requested had mechanical issues and needed to be repaired, but they didn't once tell me about that or reach out to me to change my rooms. I had check in on the app already and requested my digital room key to skip the counter like always since I usually come in late. Luckily, the agent was able to assist and get me a new room and I had my digital key within 15mins even though I was still an hour away. I got here and got to my floor to hear a dog bark a few doors down from me... that wasn't too big of an issue this time the room was actually pretty decently cleaned (I only got pictures of before I was leaving so it's lived in right now. Those are the photos I posted to this review.) The room was much more tolerable in terms of cleanliness. Now the thing was I don't know what was going on next door, but it sounded like construction in the next morning early too. It woke me up and I tried to go back to bed but ended up just going to work. When I was leaving my room I saw there was a utility cart in the hallway so it had to be construction and not guests. Then I walk in and there is a nail on the floor by my door. I will say the best part about this hotel was the staff both on the property and through the text message line. They were attentive, apologetic, and overall not a brick wall! It was nice to see people solve issues and respond so fast! They also had water in the room already! That's a win in my book

UPDATE: 3 days after my review, I received an email from 'Giselle Perez' apologizing for the…read moreissues I experienced. Pretty much the standard 'we're sorry we didn't meet your expectations . . .' Then she also indicated she was going to add loyalty points to my account. Okay - good gesture - props for addressing and trying to 'make it right'. Then a few days later a pending credit to my credit card showed up in the amount Inwas charged for the room and I was really impressed . . . But the pending credit disappeared the next day . . . and no loyalty points have been added to my account. I contacted Marriott Bonvoy and was told that points like that post in a few days. So - unfortunately - this property made a bad experience even worse! The initial review: So - positives and negatives. After having WiFi, streaming and plug-in/USB issues at the last 3 Marriott properties we've stayed at, we figured we'd give this place a try since part of their business model is open-concept and technology. The outside of the property was nicely done with different life-sized statues. The inside was very open and looked nice. The staff at check-in were friendly. The room itself was very open concept - not my usual 'type' of room but it was actually good - very modern as well. Plenty of USB and plug-ins which was good. The bed was ok - not great - much softer than we generally like but not too bad. The pillows were heavy and full-sized -- a big plus given the industry trend towards tiny wimpy pillows. The one nightstand had a 'music station' that looked like and old-fashioned radio but which is designed to use your device to play music. Nice - but it took up 90% of the nightstand. The bathroom was fine - no issues at all - plenty of counter space and a shelf underneath. That's where the good parts end. Given the streaming issues we've had at Marriott properties lately we tried the streaming - and - it would not work. It simply would not go into any screen to allow signing in - not for any streaming platform. They sent someone to look at it and said they had to 'escalate' it. So - same story as the other properties, but it was worse here because the streaming and technology is a BIG part of their business model. So - we tried the 'regular' tv. Unfortunately, while the menu showed channels, there was no program guide so you literally had to flip through every channel to see what was on. Again, very disappointing especially given their business model. Then, at 3:47 am, we heard an extremely loud voice - sounded like they were in our room. We kinda freaked out and then we realized there was nobody in the room but it was clearly someone speaking VERY loudly from in our room. After turning on all the lights, we found the hotel's walkie talkie that they left behind the microwave when they were trying to fix the television/streaming. It was cranked up to max volume and someone was talking on it. Neither of us were able to go back to sleep and when we went downstairs to go to our morning meeting we took the walkie talkie to the front desk. Clearly they were confused but no real apology at all. So - once again a Marriott property has some issues. We are thinking it's time to cut ties with Marriott despite our rewards status with them. Something has really, really changed at Marriott properties the past year.
