I was looking for a very unique experience in the city of Chicago, I really only wanted to try two things kayaking was one and a segway experience was the second. There are a few options out there to Segway, in fact, I originally signed up for another segway company but was canceled at the last minute. I turned to Google to find an alternative and Segway Experience seemed to be the most convenient to where I was and cost-effective. Mike made the experience a phenomenal one. He was both professional and knowledgeable. I might add he is very funny and his insights are engaging. I can't say enough positive things about my experience and I'll definitely recommend Segway Experience to my friends and family.

At the end of November. In Chicago. I think Segways are pretty ridiculous looking, and frequently cackle at the people riding Segways around the Loop in large groups, peering down at humble pedestrians (yeah, I'm the worst). I crossed my fingers that no one I knew would see me. We decided to use our Groupon on November 23... Black Friday. We knew enough to bundle up in multiple layers and wear hats/earmuffs and gloves. We arrived a little early to the building (right near DePaul's downtown campus, next to the Corner Bakery Cafe and the Chicago Architecture Foundation), signed some paperwork, and went next door to grab a warm drink and waste some time. Our tour wound up being pretty small - just me, my dad, and one other person who had taken Segway tours before. We watched a little safety video, then our guide, Damian, offered us snowsuits. We all declined - my dad and I are pretty used to the cold, and we had plenty of layers already. We were assigned Segways and brought them out across the street for a little lesson in Segway riding - which is very easy - then we were off! It was freezing, obviously, but that was expected, and the only things that were a problem were my face and, after a little while, my hands - but that couldn't really be prevented. Some of my favorite bits of the tour were riding around the Museum Campus and Soldier Field, and down by the lakefront (though that was the coldest part). Damian was a great tour guide, very friendly and eager to answer any questions. And I have to say, I really loved riding the Segway... But don't tell anyone, because I will deny it.

I stayed at the Ritz on Pearson, as I headed to get lunch, I saw they had a kiosk a block away from my hotel. The fellow at the counter as extremely helpful and informative. I did some shopping and got lunch and returned to purchase my 24 hour ticket. The complete ride was about two hours. Got to see the Willis Tower, Navy Yard, The Loop, Soldier Field, etc. I was able to take the bus on two days because the pass lasts 24 hours. I'd say this a must do while booting the Windy City.

I was so impressed at our driver/tour guide's knowledge of the most intricate details of the city of Chicago. We sat on the top of the double-decker bus, which gave us a great overview of everything we saw along the way, even the Canada Geese who were taking a break along the waterway. What was the most impressive was how much green space had been created amongst all the buildings and that older buildings had been preserved so that the city wasn't just tall, glass and steel buildings dominated the skyline. On my next visit, I'll have to see some of the highlights separately, but in the meantime, The Big Bus made it easy to start my bucket list.

John was very accommadating. John had verified the location and the time the tour begins. The bus was very easy to locate on Clark Street. Checking in was a breeze. The seats were very comfortable. There are various screens throughout the bus so you will be able to view the snipet of the tv show or movie before seeing the building or location of the shoot. Hint: try to sit on the left side of the bus so you can see more of the attractions. Patrick, the guide, was fantantic. He is was very entertaining and informative regarding the various locations. Good thing we had a groupon that we could use to reschedule. We didnt want to wait the 45 minutes! So this time the tour was on time. The bus was actually early to arrive. I was extremely happy the bus was air conditioned and smelled lemon fresh! The tour lasted about 2 hours. It was non-stop movie clip playing while the bus was driving us to the places that were shot on film and our tour guide was giving us the history of it all. Our tour guide knew SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much about the movies. I'm impressed she saw them all (or maybe just most of them?). The films that they played dated as far back as 1915 (His New Job) and as late as 2009 (Time Traveler's Wife). I never knew SO MANY films had clips of Chicago in them. This tour was super informative, and our guide was engaging. We booked this tour online for about $30 and picked a desired time slot. Once we arrived at the field, we entered the gate as directed, scanned our ticket, and went through security. We cut it short and barely caught the start of the tour. It starts off with walking up the stairs and seeing the field. The field was like no other and felt smaller than other stadiums. During this tour, we also went to left field and took a picture with the Ivy, went into the visitors' locker room, and went to the announce box up top with an amazing view. If you are visiting Chicago, I 100% recommend this tour; the facts you learn aren't boring but unique. Some of them quite surprised me, like this was the first field to allow you to take a ball back home or even start the pledge of allegiance for all sports. I wish I remembered the tour guide, but you can tell he is very passionate about the Cubs and loves his job. Like what! My wife did this tour a couple years ago and highly recommended it, but I wasn't especially interested because I had also gone to school here and figured I knew enough about Hyde Park already. However, she insisted that it would be worth our while and so I agreed to climb on the bus. And it was the absolutely right decision, because the tour was excellent. In fact, it wasn't just a tour of Hyde Park. It included the surrounding neighborhoods of Washington Park, Kenwood, Jackson Park, and Woodlawn. Since this was a UChicago sponsored event much of the information related to the University's investment and involvement in the area. Our tour guide and founder of Chicago Detours, Amanda, is herself a graduate of UChicago and thus she had some additional insight into the relationship with the community. Though the 75-minute tour felt a little slow-going at times, there was much to learn about the vibrant but sometimes troubled history of the area. Amanda has tremendous knowledge and the excursion was both fascinating and entertaining. I can imagine that Chicago Detours would have equally interesting tours of other neighborhoods in this diverse city.
