This was fantastic! I've always believed the tour guide is what makes or breaks an experience. Access aside, these building designs are fascinating but Colleen turned them into a memorable story about the history of Chicago's innovative commercial architecture. She is a professional and I assume others who work for this company are as well. In my opinion, the tour ​structure and pace were optimal. She set us up with an introduction to each building, gave us time to absorb it and then went into details. We had a member of our group who can't always keep up physically so I was prepared to drop out but the pace was very accommodating because the actual distance between buildings is short and there are accessibility doors / elevators at each since they serve a modern population. Colleen was great during our Chicago interior architecture tour. We went to six different buildings and she had super interesting points to share during each stop. She was thoughtful in offering restroom breaks during the two hour tour. Would absolutely recommend this tour - I have been to Chicago multiple times and learned more on this tour than I ever did in my previous visits combined. I have taken many tours in different cities at home and abroad. Chicago being the birthplace of the modern skyscraper has many stories to tell about the evolution of turn of the century architecture after the great Chicago fire. Locally we have a great city guide on our local PBS channel 11 who does a fantastic job at uncovering some of the best forgotten stories about our cities past. Of course, I am referring to Geoffrey Baer, whom I have watched on our local PBS many times over the years. So yes, I can say that I am a fan. But you know it's one thing to watch these architectural marvels on TV or in person. I decided to be a tourist in my own city by taking the Original Chicago Architecture Interiors Tour by Inside Chicago Walking Tours. How was it? I loved it. Many of the treasures we uncovered, I have walked by for many years without every going inside and seeing the marvelous interiors firsthand. We also went over the exterior of several buildings that I never stopped to think about the stories behind the buildings history. Yes, I took a lot of buildings for granted. On this tour we went over the timeline and historical evolution of some of some of the significant buildings in our downtown area. Of course, were not able to cover all of them because Chicago is blessed to have so many great buildings with a storied past. I highly, highly recommend this tour to tourists and locals alike. Some of the buildings that were covered were the Chicago Board of Trade, The Federal Building, The Marquette, The Palmer House, and the Chicago Cultural Center (and many more). During our stay, we took three tours with Inside Chicago Walking Tours (Dazzling Interiors of the Loop, Chicago's Art Deco Masterpieces, and Underground Pedway and the Loop), all of which were led by Henry. Each of the tours was incredibly informative and entertaining. Not only was Henry very knowledgeable regarding the history and architecture of the buildings, but also his training as a structural engineer enabled him to provide additional insight into the engineering and science involved in the construction of these architectural marvels. Whilst in Chicago, it is recommended that one take all three tours (which complement each other with little overlap) to get the most comprehensive and enriching experience. Heath was an excellent tour guide. There were a few things that probably wouldn't affect future tours. The tour guide had to leave for 5 minutes with a coughing fit, hopefully nothing contagious. The music in the 190 Building wasn't working but all the other buildings were very interesting. The hidden gems in the buildings were surprising and beautiful. I've lived in the Chicago area for most of my life and never knew about them. Heath was full of interesting stories and I especially enjoyed his stories of how the decor in the buildings reflected their functions. read more

We booked 2 tours--the hidden gems and the pedway walk, and both were great. Both guides were so enthusiastic and knowledgeable, they presented information clearly and had interesting stories that kept everyone engaged. The art deco lobbies were stunning, and I would recommend booking the Sunday tour for those because the buildings are closed to the public. It's quiet and easy to hear everyone, and we could explore and get up close to all the amazing details. The pedway tour was also really fun--it's like a secret right in front of your eyes. We booked this one on a Monday and I was worried it would be too crowded. But with how under-utilized the pedway is, it was easy to hear all the stories and history. I wonder if they should do the route backwards though? Ending at City Hall would be kind of a more central location and more impressive? But either way, a great tour, great guides that are locals and you know the $ is going to a small business which is very important! read more
