I used to go here to see Vanessa but then there was no one that was like here that could work it out for me... But that doesn't mean the salon isn't any good. They are all immensely talented and I say that the way it is set up (with so many stylists) you are bound to find someone to give you something good. Their service rocks, they actually give you a smock - they have a changing room - the whole thing is an experience. I've been thinking about exploring the salon again, but I don't know I can tear myself away from going to Anvil in SF. They are open on Sundays (super convenient), but only take cash (boo!)... This is definitely the largest salon I've seen in my life. 22 stylists!!! Wow!! I think that they have a lot who specialize in something particular or they just like a full house! They provide smocks to change into, so you don't get hair or chemicals on your clothes. Went here last week for a body wave perm with Desiree. She's such a sweetie. The process was pretty fast and I'm getting used to my hair now hehe! Definitely a big change from super straight hair. She offered a lot of advise on how to style and take care of the new texture. Think that next time I will have her do bigger waves. She is the person who specializes in perms there, and I kinda wish I would have brought pictures to show her, I think that would have eliminated some of my personal confusion. So take advantage of the FREE consult! She's a great stylist and I was a ditzy client but say's she'll do anything to make me happy, so who could be bothered with that? And they don't push their products here. I've been to other salons that just PUSH until you buy something and I just hate that, but she just gave me some suggestions of what to look for in a product (which is WAY more helpful than just throwing products in my face to buy). I realized that I've never reviewed my salon. I'm such a crap customer! I've been seeing Liz pretty much exclusively for the last several years. Previously I was all about Los Gatos salons but my favorite hair stylist moved on to a new career. Lo and behold, Faux is down the street from my apartment and Liz blows my old stylist out of the water. I've never had so many compliments on my hair before her. If I'm stuck in a hair rut (which happens a lot), she whips something out of her bag of tricks that makes my hair look both different AND amazing. I've run into other stylists that regardless of how they cut your hair, it always looks the same. That NEVER happens with Liz. She's amazing! The price has gotten higher ($63 for a haircut - no color) but I've always been willing to pay more for quality. She knows that my hair grows insanely fast and is always willing to cut my bangs a bit shorter than she'd like so they'll look right for more of my haircut. If I got long bangs, I'd have to get them cut every 2 days, I swear! Her cuts also grow out amazingly well. I typically only see her every 3 months - less if I'm growing my hair out. I've never had a color done by her because I'm trying to reclaim my hair virginity. Maybe one of these days. read more

I came to Faux at the suggestion of a friend who has been going here for years. She recommended Adriana and now I'm passing that recommendation on to everyone else. I went in needing something done with my color. Whatever, I don't care, it just needed to be fun, but closer to my natural color so that when my roots showed up... Well, you know how roots can be. Adriana made a suggestion and we ran with it. I have never had so many compliments on my hair before! My mom swears that my hair used to look just like that when I was little. But I have always been super pleased with Adriana because she actually LISTENS to what you want and helps figure out the best way to get you there. Even if you want to stay a little conservative. I look forward to being able to go back in for a cut in the near future. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for when you come to Faux and I have to save up to get my afternoon of awesomeness. I started coming to Natalie at Faux Salon 10 or 11 years ago. She is a brilliant hairstylist! She has cut my hair in all different styles- super short bob to mid-back length- as well as dyed/highlighted it, and EVERY SINGLE TIME I have been super happy with it. During the past decade, I have lived all over California and abroad, and most of the time I have waited to come back to the bay to have her cut my hair. This may sound extreme, but the times I have had others cut my hair, I haven't been so happy with the result- either because they cut too much off, or I simply didn't like the cut. It just made sense to wait. As far as the salon itself, it is very colorful and creative- from the stylists' hair, clothing and tattoos to the paintings and mirrors strewn about. It's a very pleasant, fun, yet professional atmosphere. The receptionist can appear a bit snooty or standoffish, but you barely have any contact with that person, so it's not a big deal. You are also always offered coffee, tea or water. There is street parking, but usually I have to walk no more than a block. One thing that you should be aware of is that this is definitely not a bargain salon. My haircuts are about $75 (without tip), so it is kind of steep in today's economy, but this is definitely a case of getting what you pay for. If you can afford it, you will undoubtedly leave here happy. I am in love with this place, and if I could come here for all of my cuts/styling/coloring for the rest of my life, I honestly believe I'd never again have a botched-up hairdo. P.S. Let me start by saying my hair is DIFFICULT it's very Thick and by thick I mean everyone who has ever washed my hair in my 26 years of going to Salons always says WOW! you have a lot of hair in that pony tail. Which usually ends with me crying at the end of my salon visit. If you've got thick hair that you want styled and thinned out Gina is you're girl. She is blunt and straight to the point but she knows her Sh*t and she will give you the cut you deserve. Gina from Faux saved the day again! I needed a change from pulled back bangless mismatched colored hair. I came in with the photo of what I wanted which was totally opposite of what I had...a semi shag style. her assistant came out greeted me and saw the photo and was totally sweet im pretty sure her name is Amber?maybe Amy I feel horrible for not remembering since it was just recently but I have a crazy busy life lol but regardless shes so0o sweet. Once Gina and I discussed things I ended up with the Cut I wanted but she tamed my color ideas to make sure they would work with my profession..Overall my visit took a lot longer then they were anticipating but they were so patient and Amazing working on my hair. Gina didn't complain one time about my hair she didn't even think it was hard she just got out her shears and went to work. Im so Thankful! to find someone who is able to handle my hair and make it trendy while also functional... LOVE Amy. I've gotten my hair cut and styled by her 3 times now and I can honestly say I've never been happier with the results of my hair. She does exactly what I want and never pushes something I'm not ready for, just gives her opinion when asked. I just chopped off the majority of my hair this morning and I would have never done that if I didn't trust her. I walked in with an idea, and she made it happen. Real nice, great to talk to, and isn't intimdated by my super curly spirals. The atmosphere is very diverse (little old ladies sitting next to punk rock boys) so don't be shy when you see the haircuts of the stylists working there. I've seen very basic cuts, and really awesome technicolor creations. I didn't give 5 stars because they don't take credit, and everyone always seems to be in a big rush. I've never felt rushed in Amy's chair, she's always taken the time to make sure I'm happy. But everyone else seems to be in such a hurry. Smile people! Other then that, I always get a polite and friendly response when I call in, and the rest of the staff seems like they know what they're doing. read more

I've been going to Faux for about 10 years now. I'm the kind of gal that loves to change her look, and I'm always looking for something sassy. Faux is an upscale salon with an ultra-hipster staff. Sometimes I just enjoy looking at the hairstyles and outfits of the other stylists! Gina is my stylist, and I have never been unhappy with a cut or color. I've not had a "real" cut in almost two years 'cause I'm growing the mop out (I know, I need to update my pic!), but my hair still looks great. Plus, they massage your neck when you get a shampoo. You can't beat that with a stick! And they'll give you coffee or soda if you want something to drink. The haha part: I can never find the bathroom! The door is painted as part of mural all over the wall, and it gets me every time! Maybe I'm a dork. The downside? Parking in Campbell. Seriously. There are a few lots, but they are always full and I have to drive around the block a few times to find a spot. Jeez! It's not like it's San Francisco or anything! read more

Gina is a genius. I've been going to her for a few years now and she always makes me look great. Don't be fooled by all the pierced and pink-haired staff--they don't just do purple mohawks there. I've gotten so many compliments on my hair since Gina started doing me. Right now I have a fun and fabulous short razor cut but she always listens to what I want. Also she will try to fit me in if I have a hair emergency (upcoming event or whatever). The prices are as expected for a high-end cut, but you get what you pay for. The five years I lived in San Diego and the 2 years I lived in San Francisco, I still booked appointments here. The stylists are very, very experienced and there are many people on staff that have been there for over a decade. There isn't a single stylist who hasn't been through their rigorous training program; you'll definitely find experienced and professional stylists here, no newbies. I've been going for almost 15 years. My stylist is Siobhan, my brother goes to Nemesis, my mom and sister go to Jennifer, and we're all extremely happy. The ambiance is fine; it is hip, the music is cool, the people have multicolored hair and a variety of tattoos so there is always something to look at. I didn't get any attitude from the staff or the owner (who took OVER AN HOUR to cut an older lady's hair into a "Rosemary's Baby" Mia Farrow 'do; seriously, he used moustache scissors or something, and snipped each hair indvidually. It was like watching an artist paint with a brush with only one hair in it). I have very long naturally curly hair and have wanted to dye out the highlights and was told I couldn't by my old colorist (highlights cost a lot more, no wonder I was told I couldn't just dye them away). I went to Faux, the stylist said I could dye, she did it, and did a great job. The color was spot on and I was impressed. I wish I could remember her name. Doesn't matter because I wont be back, the haircut wasn't good, but it's a rare stylist who can cut curly hair well. It was VERY expensive but worth it to get rid of the highlights. I got my husband a gift cert. for a haircut to give at christmas and he said the haircut took five minutes and cost 50 bucks, and he wouldn't be back because it looked like the 10 dollar haircut he gets down the street from the Vietnamese lady. So, in the end, Faux is a decent place but I wont be back because I didn't find my curly hair stylist there. The search continues. Edited to add: I found the gift certificate receipt and it was Gina who did our hair. My hair color turned out great, but again, the cut sucked and my husband didn't like his either. So i went here for my major life altering cut. i had my hair down to my butt and cut it up to past my shoulders to donate. I went with Cari, honestly i just called up and ask if they had any openings and i just went with who ever was available because i was so sick of calling around and talking to bitchy receptionist at other salons. The atmosphere is cool, like hanging mirrors cut in to cloud shapes and neat colors and picture on the walls. The only thing was there were like older ladies there and i thought OMG while I was sitting there waiting, like what have i gotten myself into am i going to come out with like an 80 year old perm?? But the stylist all seem nice. Cari was really cute she talked a lot and was really friendly she totally understood that i didn't want a drastic cut because i was cutting so much off at once so she cut something that was short but still conservative. She didn't' push any products at all because at the beginning she asked me if i used any and i told her i didn't so i LIKE that a lot. There's nothing like pushy sales person to ruin the experience. The best thing about Faux is that the stylists always give me the cut I want. Sure, we might talk about it, sentient being to sentient being, but I always walk out of there with hair that's better than I imagined it could be. That's really saying a lot. My experience at almost every other salon I've been to is that I don't get the cut I want, or I get the cut I want after the stylist has made abundantly clear they think I'm crazy. It's not just one stylist at Faux who's good, too. I think I've had a different stylist every time I've been there, and they're all excellent. I also brought my mother there when she was visiting, and she still talks about her cut with tears in her voice because she can't get it duplicated where she lives. There are only two downsides to the place: they only accept cash or checks, which is inconvenient, and the salon can be a furnace in the summer. Parking is also somewhat complicated, but that's not their fault. Bottom line: my visit today has convinced me that I'm not going to waste my time going anyplace else in the South Bay. read more

I've driven by countless times and this just looked like my kind of place. After having my hair mangled at another salon I'd been reluctant to get my hair cut again but it's thick and getting long so I broke down and started looking for a new salon. I decided to give Faux a try and I'm so glad I did! I called for an appointment for my son and I, and were able to book for an hour or so later. We saw Amber who is fantastic, my hair is lighter and she was able to fix the problem area the last salon left me with. She was able to fix the issue with my sons hair too. I told him not to let me use the clippers on his head but he insisted! She helped him find the right shade of funky hair dye he wanted. Yaay! my experience at faux was ABSOLUTELY in line, in fact even better, than what yelpers noted. i called for an appt, asking the receptionist to make a rec for a gal with naturally curly hair. she named off a few and i asked her who she'd recommend outta that list and she said jason. so jason it was. it wasn't just an initial consultation of "what do you want" and then snipsnipsnip. throughout the appointment, i'd ask q's on what he recommends based on what i like and we'd change directions based on that conversation. without exception, i followed his advice. chop off the back? sure. get some highlights? ok. and the end product? well, let's say i've never EVER walked out of a salon with such a big grin on my face. sure it cost a pretty penny ($187 for cut and color. don't worry tho - a cut is just $60 so that's pretty standard) but wow! and not only did he constantly ask and give feedback but there wasnt that annoying chatter some ppl do to fill the quiet either - nothing forced. he gave me a tasty coffee drink and even brought in and showed me his dog, harlow, while i was under the heating chair. he's got a vision but won't force it on you. his execution and professionalism made for a more than comfortable environment. we finished off the appointment by diffusing my hair - "you'll probably not do this at home, but we're in a salon, so let's go big." the cut and color was just so... fun! a good haircut can completely change your mood like it did for me today. :) i've never really felt any loyalty to a specific hairstylist, but i'm certain that i'll be going back to jason for my next appointment. :) yaay yelp and what's more, yaay jason! ps. they carry "curl conscious" products by bumble and bumble - the absolute best thing i've ever found for curly hair. faux rocks. read more

First of all, I have to say that a trip to Faux is a Trip. Like a trip to the Summer of Love, a trip to Punk Rock NY circa 1979, a trip to Mexico City in 2002, a trip to Venus, a trip to the Moon. In other words these people take you PLACES. Mikel et., al have given me rock n' roll, cut after cut after color after color after color. I've been going to see Mikel and friends since 1999. My hair has been platinum, a three color toxic waste green to pink, pink and black, greigey plum. You name it, they've taken me there. Now in my semi-sedate brown and black do, I'm still a happy camper...and will stick to them like superglue. But...I think I might go into the platinum danger zone soon!! Meow. p.s. My stylist in Caryl (Ca-Ril), she is amazing and has been doing hair for like 20+ years!!!!! The prices are def. on the higher side...but come on people...it's your hair....you don't wanna cheap out on that..... I know quite a few people who get their hair cut here, and we all have the same impression: you wouldn't think people like us got our hair done at a place that looks like that. The stylists generally have at least one bright hair color, lots of tatoos, piercing, etc. The art on the wall is always very interesting (one time they had quilts of abstract vaginas, I swear). But the folks sitting in the chairs are just your typical Silicon Valley crowd. I have been getting my hair cut by Elizabeth for about a year now, and they are the best haircuts I have ever had. Even months after I get my hair cut, people ask me if I just got my hair cut and how cute it is. And that's the thing: she does such a good job cutting it, that even when it grows out, it still looks great. Plus she is always fun to talk to and gossip with. I have also had my hair cut by four other people there over the years, so I know that the place is solid all around.
