Station Tavern was one of the numerous businesses that opened up shop in conjunction with the construction and commercial upgrades at Cambridge Railway Station. It's almost nearly adjacent to the entrance of the station, behind the taxi rank. I appreciate the pub as a place to have a drink or meal while waiting for your train. If you opt for a hot bite from the kitchen, I would suggest at least a 45 minute cushion before boarding. Departure times are shown on screens near the bar.
The space itself has plenty of seating and modern brewpub decor. I've had half pints of cider here a few times--once with Mac & Cheese--as well as breakfast.
While my experiences have been okay (the Breakfast Bap with Lincolnshire sausage is good), a change was made between the two times I ordered French Toast. The first time, the dish was great: artisan bread and crispy, streaky bacon. I was nearly a fan, until the second time I ordered and the plate was completely different and disappointing: mediocre bread and soggy, fatty bacon. I'm not sure if the change was deliberate or just a matter of circumstance, but if the former...why alter something that was already working?
In any case, Station Tavern is still a decent place to go if you're getting to or from Cambridge by train. 3.5 stars. read more
