There is a reasonable ca park as it gets quite hard to park in the summer. I have visited for lunch and dinner and both were very nicely presented and well cooked. The skate is very tasty and the scampi and Jenga chips are good. The costs can be a little bit higher for lunch but the menu is very similar and therefore for dinner, I thought it was quite reasonable. Peter who used to be at another Billericay restaurant is the restaurant manager and as normal makes sure we get well looked after.

This is quite a sporty pub and regularly has a football or rugby match showing on one of several screens in the bar and the bar staff are usually quite accommodating if there is a particular event that people want to watch so long as it doesn't clash with a major fixture. But I have seen Football, Rugby, Tennis, Olympic events and loads of other sports over the years that I called this pub 'my local'. The Duke also does a great lunchtime menu - which I'd describe as good, traditional pub grub - and serves a variety of food from sandwiches and baguettes to burgers, scampi and lasagne. I'll explain why and try to be concise. The cuisine is exceptional. There's a good selection of quality drinks. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming -- the sort of place where complete strangers tend to strike-up conversation. The location is perfect, overlooking the Village Green, with a big beer garden behind, and a vast playing field behind that. It's a lovely village, nestled in the gently-undulating farming landscape of rural north-east Herts -- no wonder Braughing was recently awarded the prestigious "Village of the Year" accolade. The pub's menu always includes the best of local produce, from locally-reared beef to local pork sausages, alongside popular country pub dishes. (Braughing village is famous for, among other things, the delicious local sausages, and this is a good place to sample them.) Did I mention the pies? A different pie every day it seems, and you won't find better pies than these. I don't make a statement like that lightly.

It was like crack in bread form. I also had a great beer on cask as well as a glass of their Nero D'Avola from Sicily which went perfectly with my steak. Speaking of the steak, it was perfectly cooked medium rare and had a very crisp and flavorful exterior. My friends said their doughnuts are to die for here, but unfortunately we didn't leave enough room after the wonderful feast we had. Next time! The atmosphere is pub/cottagey with loads of character. Their choice of cocktails was good and made very well, However the decor and interior are quite dated and not suited to a cocktail bar, infact it looks very similar to the nightclub that proceeded it a few years ago. Their wasnt too much atmosphere however it was early when we arrived but it allfelt a little half hearted the bathroom was awful too. The hidden rooms as the name suggests are hard to find, just down a few steps off jesus lane. (next to pizza express) usually places that are hard to find are often worth the search and effort however this sadly wasnt the case here. It maybe much better late at night though with more people and the cheery beer goggles on.
