The bar area is wooden floor and there is a raised section of the restaurant too. Bar and restaurant prices aren't cheap - but they are typical of hotel bars and restaurants. The rooms are quite nice too - although some of them aren't very big - but then, they're not marketed as luxury suites!! The hotel has it's own health club - which can get very busy. The pool is only small, as is the jacuzzi - but there is also a steam room, sauna, gym and exercise studio. The gym/pool is open to non residents as well as hotel guests. The hotel has a large car park, a big function room, and several small meeting rooms. It is also accessible from the M5 and within easy reach of the City Centre.

This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in for its star rating and price point. The young lady at check in was very polite and helpful, but sadly it was all downhill from there. There was some kind of function going on into the night, and it was extremely loud and carried into my room at the back of the property. Breakfast was OK but certainly nothing special, and there was an extremely limited selection of cold items in the included breakfast buffet. (You had to pay for full English, even with a breakfast inclusive rate!) The very worst part though was that the bathroom was dirty (by which I mean the toilet still had someone else's poop tracks, and there was a long black hair in the bathtub - a whole lot of ick) and the housekeeping in the room hadn't been that much better. But I was exhausted from all the driving we had done that day, so I just went to sleep, and put it down as a poorly managed and run property which is a bit of a missed opportunity given the location. When I decided to email the hotel manager to discuss this feedback with him/her, I sent an email to property asking for the GM's contact details and was told that guests are not permitted to get "higher management details without their permission"! Says it all really about what "higher management" at this hotel think of their guests.

You can hear guests in the next rooms from all directions -- coughing, passing gas, you name it. If you ask for a double bed, you get two singles put together with an obvious (and uncomfortable) split down the middle. The cleaning staff start early, are chatty and loud and are not respectful of guests who might still be sleeping, even when you have a "sleeping in" tag on your door. We also missed breakfast, which we included in our reservation when we booked and they weren't able to change the rate for us at check out. There's a two-hour window for breakfast that starts and ends earlier on weekdays, which can be confusing if you stay Saturday to Monday. Other than that, it's nice having pool and spa facilities, the staff are nice and the location is nice enough.

Changing rooms dirty and smelly (both mens and womens). Pool side dirty, spiders webs, broken window pane, generally run down and grotty. Nothing "Spa like" or gift worthy about this, your local community swimming pool is probably cleaner with friendlier staff and better facilities.

The only weird thing in the rooms is the hermetically sealed bathroom pod. There's no way to open or close the door without it making really loud noises (even the soundest of sleepers will get disturbed) and if you close it while you're showering, you'll suffocate. Another functional disaster is the window: it lets the rain in even if it's open just a crack, and that floods the desk where you may or may not have placed your laptop. At least it never rains in England, right? Because there's pretty much zero reason to be in Gloucester, the hotel is mostly used by business people and groups who hang around inside a lot. The lobby is often teeming at night and the carpark is almost always full. Book in advance if you can to avoid the same-day rates that get inflated because of this. Surprisingly, the noise from the guests is actually pretty minimal upstairs. Soundproofing between rooms seems to be okay. Just don't try to sleep in (past 8:30am or so) because the cleaning staff will wake you up as they bang and clatter and shout down the halls, which are impossible to navigate due to all the cleaning carts and vacuums and laundry piles throughout much of the day. I've never heard doors slamming so hard in a hotel. It's rarely, if ever, the guests; always the cleaners. For that reason, I wouldn't recommend this hotel for more than a one night stay. There's no point in a 12pm checkout when the noise forces you out earlier. Maybe that's the master plan? The attitude of the staff on reception is also pretty dire. Don't ask for anything out of the ordinary or mention your impolite wake-up by the cleaners or you'll get the death stare for the rest of your stay. One or two of the reception staff are fine and helpful, but the manager seems purposefully oblivious. If you have the misfortune of staying in Gloucester for more than 12 hours, try somewhere else. The slightly cheaper prices here don't make up for the fact that everything wrong with this hotel could be fixed in about 10 minutes. They just don't want to do it because it's easier to take the money from business guests and ignore the rest. Oh, and the wifi is terrible. I forgot one more point: Ibis hotels (everywhere) accept pets in the rooms. That's disgusting. I have pet allergies, so it's doubly bad for me. Just spare a thought for where you think most dog-lovers will let their dogs sleep in the hotel. I'm sure they don't clean their paws first before jumping in the bed. If you're into fleas and germs and dog crap or whatever else, than by all means, stay at an Ibis. I'm going to pass in future.

A typical Premier Inn, with a Table Table restaurant attached where breakfast is served if you have booked B&B. Rooms are a standard layout from what I've experienced. Great, comfortable double bed, with two types of pillows and a duvet, rather than sheets. A TV with freeview is in the room, as well as mini kettle with tea and coffee. Bathroom is immaculate, cleaning is great here. I've stayed here three times, a year apart, and service and cleanliness has been consistent. If you don't have a car then a taxi from Gloucester station costs about £7. Vending machines are available in reception so fizzy drinks, chocolate, crisps and water are all available. For any single female travellers, there are some nice touches which I have not experienced before at other hotels. Location of room is considered for you and also on check in, staff will hand you your room key/card but your room number is written on a card, rather than announced to all and sundry in reception for security reasons. Breakfast is good and sets you up for the day - continental options available (£5.95 for breads, croissants, yogurts, fruits, tea and Costa coffee and fruit juices) or full breakfast (£8.95) which includes full, Continental, the works, so fill up for the day if you need to! I like how I can choose what my breakfast will consist of, so as I'm gluten free, the Continental option is lousy for me but I can take a cooked breakfast and eat can have a huge plate of bacon if I want. Dinner at Table Table - paid separately is fine with quite a broad menu - burgers, fish and chips, pasta dishes, salads, etc. On early weekday nights (Mon, Tues, Wed) they appear to offer some kind of buffet for about £6.95 - last time it was Chinese and food was replenished several times in the 30 minutes I was there grabbing a quick bite. Fizzy drinks (Pepsi, lemonades) are free refills. It's not fine dining but pub food and staff are able to advise me what options I can have and prices are good so its all good :-)

The room I stayed in had two single-sized beds, a sitting area, a desk where I could work, a mini-fridge in the clothes cupboard, and even a towel warming rack in the bathroom. I love the shower fixture as it is not only detachable, but you can also adjust the height when it's hanging in the cradle. My only complaints are: no clock in the room, no outlets to plug things in aside from the ones above the desk, beds roll whenever you bump them, and the TV comes on automatically whenever hotel staff post an electronic message to you. (This last item wouldn't be a big deal except that they tend to push messages at approximately 6:30 am which is rather annoying when you're trying to sleep.) There's a full service bar and restaurant located in tge lobby of the hotel and breakfast is included in many, if not all, room rates. The hotel is easy to get to and close to the village and a large 24 hour Tessco.
