Under the sea cake theme - medium round size cake
Cristy M.

This review is specially for the bakery counter & specifically for the work of their main cake decorator Nathalie! I came with an idea that wasn't necessarily in their cake design book. It was a simple idea and Nathalie went above and beyond to give me some input of how she can make it come to life! She made two beautiful "under the sea" style cakes, so cute I didn't want to cut it!! One was even boy theme and the other girl theme. Of course we did cut the cake, and might I add the cake was even delicious! We got so much compliments for the cake & I definitely spread the word about Nathalie's design and my interaction with her. I hope she gets a raise for her creativity, dedication, and kindness. I am definitely going back for my other kids birthday cakes.

This place is always busy, both inside and with takeout orders, so I definitely recommend ordering ahead if you're in a hurry. That said, they are consummate professionals at what they do, and even if you walk in, the wait is never painful. My advice: check out the menu while you're in line and be ready to order when you get to the register. They're busy, and nobody wants to be the indecisive person holding up the line! Their daily specials are incredible, but be aware that if you want a special from a different day, it's not happening. Also, get there early if you want the special, because they can and do sell out -- which honestly just proves how good they are. Everything here is done right. The menu items are thoughtfully put together, balanced, and full of flavor. Portions are generous without being ridiculous, prices are very fair, and honestly, I think they may even be low compared to the value you get. The staff is always helpful, and the girl at the counter has been there as long as I've been going -- I believe she's family -- which says a lot about the heart behind this place. Don't skip the market, either. They carry some of the best Italian ingredients, and it adds even more to the experience. Saverino's is by far the best sandwich spot in Redlands, and I'd go out on a limb and put them in the top five on the West Coast. Family-run, local, consistent, and absolutely top notch. This place is a winner and deserves a try. Just one warning: THEY ARE ADDICTIVE!

First walking in it felt homey and not so in your face. The owner took my order, and he was very genuine and nice. Now to the food. We ordered the Philly, and the bbq ribeye sandwiches, French fries, cheese pizza, and a large potato salad. When I got home with the food we noticed the potato salad was missing(this doesn't take any stars away) and I thought to myself well I did talk with the owner and distract him. Me and my split our sandwiches and the Philly is hands down one of the best Phillys I've ever had and my wife loved it. The bbq ribeye was almost as good but me and my wife agreed as cheese lovers that it would be even better with more cheese. The fries give you that comfy deli vibe of fries they were very crispy yet still soft inside. The pizza had an amazing undercarriage, the amount of cheese was perfect and the sauce was amazing, the crust was still crispy as well and made it that much better. My first impression walking in was a little off-putting. The space is pretty bland and seems geared primarily toward takeout, so it isn't especially warm or welcoming. My sandwich was good, though. The restaurant has been serving customers since 1956, and you can feel the history the moment you walk through the door. The warm wooden booths, European décor, German beer signs, and cozy atmosphere make you feel like you've stepped into a family restaurant in Germany. I ordered the Jägerschnitzel, served with rich mushroom gravy, traditional German potato salad, and sweet red cabbage. Every bite was delicious, and it paired perfectly with a cold Paulaner beer. What impressed me most wasn't just the food--it was the story. Our waitress told us that when one of their employees was 17 years old, the original owner personally taught him how to make their famous sausages. Today, at 81 years old, he's still there making sausage five days a week. That's over six decades of preserving the same recipes and traditions. When I asked what his favorite sausage was, she smiled and said, the veal sausage. That alone guarantees what I'm ordering next visit. In a world full of chain restaurants, places like Gazzolo's are becoming rare. Family-owned, authentic, and built on generations of craftsmanship. If you appreciate homemade food, old-world hospitality, and restaurants with real history, put Gazzolo's at the top of your list. I'll definitely be back. Next time... the veal sausage.

But, aren't these the best places for some food? The menu can be a bit overwhelming if you're new. There are a lot of options. But, to an adept foodie you quickly find what you've been craving. I ordered 3 sandwiches: The Joker & The Thief: -the pastrami is cooked in their Joker sauce. I had it on a toasted French roll. Added mayo with some pickles! I also opted for "The Thief" which is added cubed BBQ Brisket for +2$ dollars! I smacked that thing down in the car so quick. What I mean to say is, I took the first bite and all the flavors came together perfectly. I could not put the sandwich down. I ate the sandwich so fast I may have lost a little oxygen to the brain as I inhaled the sandwich. Now, I'm contemplating how I can come back to order another sandwich one I live 5hrs away. I still have 2 more sandwiches for the ride home. One is the Green Shack sandwich (Turkey, Avo, & Bacon) and a chopped sandwich Don't judge me.... Yeah I'm an under cover BIG BACK. Anyways - This is a must try if you're in the area. I came in on a Friday and there was a wait. But it was definitely worth it. As I walked out I found $15 on the sidewalk. The day we went (Friday), they also had clam chowder, so we had to get a cup of that, and it comes with a sourdough roll (which was really nicely flavored, and had a nice dense texture). We ended up getting a turkey sandwich, as well as a blueberry scone and a peanut butter cookie (I mean, we had to wait for the sandwich, and the display cases were dangerous). They were very generous with the sandwich filling, the scone was also delicious, as was the soup. The one flop here was the peanut butter cookie. Could have been moister and chewier, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. You order your sandwiches by filling out a simple order form at the back counter. Bathrooms have a code and were clean. There are two single-stalled ones. Parking in the lot in the back. It was pretty easy when we got there.
