So firstly this guy Michael Rivella calls me after I submitted some information for my moving process. As I answer the phone, he rudely mispronounces my name and then proceeds to be rude as I am asking him questions. I tell him over the phone that I am looking to ship about 12-15 boxes of items as I am moving, roughly an entire studio apartment worth of items. He doesn't acknowledge what I said and instead rushes to get off the phone with his end quote being "Yea yea go on to your email and fill out the form we sent you". Okay, that was rude yet I proceeded to the link that was sent to me via email. - Keep in mind, I had 6 different companies contact me at this particular time regarding my move, if I would've known it was this company I would've unsubscribed and/or blocked the email. I fill the information out to the best to my knowledge. - I'd like to note that the reason I took the call was to have my questions answered via phone call instead of navigating through a website without prior knowledge or guidance of how to operate through the website. He then proceeds to send me the first email (I can send photos). Given his attitude over the phone and rude tactics, the email came off extremely unprofessional when he could have just asked me a simple question. "You may or may not have entered the correct information but we cannot ship (4) boxes, as this is the information we've received and I know over the phone you stated 12-15 boxes, is this information indeed correct?" On the website it says, from what I interpreted "for every 1 you click, equates to 3 boxes" so as I increased from 1 (3) to 2 (6) until I got to 4, it said (12 boxes). So I thought how I filled it out was correct. Via email, he doesn't say anything that might suggest he'd like to help me or earn my business. I tell him via email, there's no need to message me any further because he's being unprofessional. I am a man who likes to either get my questions answered in person or over the phone. He proceeds to email me after I told him to stop. I stated again, please stop messaging me. He proceeds further more. I tell him a 3rd time.. "Don't message me". He then proceeds to send an email at 10:40pm. How unprofessional is this? Not only was this person rude over the phone, they were rude via email, they didn't answer any of my questions, he failed to follow a direct request to stop messaging me and then proceeded to email me well past normal business hours after I stated over and over for this person to stop emailing me. As I am looking up their corporate office number and mailing address to voice, not only my frustration but my concerns about their business practices, I see they are a family-owned and operated business. This makes sense to why this person feels they don't have to follow suitable business practices. This makes sense to why this persons feels it's appropriate to email me at 10:40pm because he feels there is no repercussions for his actions. I have never been spoken to so rudely in my life. i called and wanted an in home estimate and they refused. I have no idea what the value was because I never got quote. Then they told me I was harassing them. I literally begged for a quote and they couldn't even get here to do that. I didnt want facetime, i didnt want to fill out the sheet. They estimated the move to cost $1925 and then forced me to pay $4074 (otherwise they would not unload the truck). I don't know if it was a deliberate scam or a combination of their incompetence when making an estimate plus hiring unqualified movers (didn't even have shoulder straps to move heavy items). The fact remains- they extorted twice the agreed price and had audacity to lie in my face saying I gave them more items than what was agreed on. In particular, the guy on the phone who refused unloading said that their quote had one piece of exercise equipment while I gave them five. In reality, the quote had three and there were three on the truck, but he just would not listen. I felt like talking to someone insane. The only extra items on the truck were three 24x24x18 inch cardboard boxes , a small plant, a yoga mat and ball. This didn't delay the move as I loaded/unloaded these extra small items myself . WORST experience with a moving company EVER. I should have checked the Yelp reviews prior to hiring. Terrible value (quoted price was several hundred dollars LESS than what we actually were charged), movers were completely unqualified (one guy could hardly breathe by the end of the move, another was limping, another kept banging into stuff), and owner as well as the partner are extremely curt, uncooperative and rude. I was told by owner Michael Rivella in email that "Edgar is leading my move and is an expert mover." You should have seen the "expert" garbage dump Edgar and his team of 2 guys created moving my furniture and boxes to a set of two storage units. Mattresses were placed diagonally on top of box springs and chair legs that were digging into my sofa, my desk had nicks, the sofa pieces were face down on the ground unprotected, the bookshelf was broken, no sofas, mattresses, or tables were wrapped in any type of protective material, a desk and chair had to be given away to them as they couldn't "fit" them in two 10 X 20 large units and overall the two units were just completely disorganized and looked like chaos had ensued. I could not visit the units until later in the month as I have a 4 month old baby at home and don't get out much unless there's a strong reason to and I didn't need anything in the storage unit so I trusted the team did their job. When I opened the doors to the units my heart dropped and I practically had a panic attack, I was shocked. I immediately called Michael and he told me my husband created the mess in the one time for the 15 minutes he visited the units. I had a different ACTUAL professional moving company move my pieces OUT of the storage unit and they were appalled at the mess this team made. Not only did the new movers say they could have lined up all pieces properly and organized them to fit everything in one unit saving me $350, but they admitted that their "chest hurt" looking at what a garbage dump Michael's team made and that it was blatantly obvious the company was just out for cash and to do a job the quickest and easiest way forward. When confronted about the mess, the owner screamed at me stating it was my husbands doing and "how could I not have checked the unit sooner" - I have an infant at home, it's winter, the only time I get out is for necessities and NOPE! it wasn't my husband who did it, it was your company. We contacted several companies for quotes for our move but ultimately chose Statewide for several reasons...the fact that they responded quickly was the first and second, being local, we felt it was important to support the community. The team showed up on time and began packing up and moving our boxes and furniture to the truck. It took about 2 1/2 hours but they did a great job, then the unload in our new home went just as quickly. When we contacted State-Wide, we were planning on moving on a Friday. Unfortunatly our closing was delayed and we had to move on a Saturday. When we called, they honored the quote rather than charge time and a half for a weekend. I'm the type of person where a handshake works. I trust you. I trusted this guy and It was a big mistake, I would never trust him again. From the very first phone call to this company right to the last items being delivered I found State-Wide Moving to be FIRST CLASS. The office staff was extremely polite. I spoke with the owner on 2 occasions and he was full of great advice. I received great communication prior to the move. The driver called me on morning of the move and gave me his time of arrival. The four movers showed up right on time. Professional, experienced, efficient movers! The move was handled perfectly and much to my delight, the cost was $75 less then estimated. I wish I could give a negative star rating. I have moved many times and have never met such incompetence. Where can I even start? I guess with the truck that was 4 hours late with a crew of three to empty the full truck. The crew consisted of: Guy #1 - This was the leader, although he had no business as one He is an experienced mover and probably a great member of a cohesive moving team. He is not a leader and yet was in charge of the other two crew members. Guy #2 - This was the driver. He informed me that he was only supposed to be the driver and had no idea that he was supposed to be moving anything. It was his second day of work. Guy #3 - This individual had NO experience moving anything ever. It was his first moving job. He spent about 1/3 of his time pulling up his pants or walking in circles. Literally, we watched him walk in circles around the truck for no reason. Most of the time he operated with one arm because he was holding his pants up with the other arm. He really caused the most damage when it came to our belongings. I watched him throw two ottomans off the side of the truck, stack a dolly too high with boxes and then when attempting to tilt the dolly spill all the boxes into the street (THREE SEPARATE TIMES), and he seemed completely winded and exhausted. After 4 hours I asked him to just stop because he was destroying too many things! Our items were damaged, not put together, and the unloading took over 8 hours. They also came with NO tools and I needed to provide the tools for putting the furniture back together. Meanwhile I am calling Mike every hour for the 8 hours of sh&%t show he sent - no call back...NOTHING. Paid entire estimate in cash - over $4000. Not even a phone call!!! The items on the truck mostly consisted of boxes and plastic tubs, a couch, 2 queen beds, 4 nightstands, 3 dressers, a dining room set, kitchen table and chairs, trundle bed, armchairs, 2 desks, 2 computer chairs, end tables, lamps, and assorted chowder.. and they sent 3 guys, 2 with NO EXPERIENCE AT ALL! 80% of the truck was to go into the large basement. I showed the crew two ways to access the basement - through the house and down stairs or around the house and through the back door. They felt going around the house and into the back door was easiest. I agree. However, on more than one occasion we heard them complaining about having to walk so far around the house to the basement door. It seems to me, having one large room to put most of the truck would be easier than taking boxes all over the house into different rooms, up and downstairs, but it was obnoxious to hear them complaining so much. It seems to me that 8 hours is a ridiculous amount of time for the items in the truck. Even with my son and I moving our own things to try and prevent them from being smashed and because we were STILL moving things at 11pm! Some of the furniture was put back together and some was not - they literally gave me a bag of loose hardware at about 10pm and told me they don't know what any of it goes to and sorry but they can't figure it out. One headboard was "attached" to the bed frame with hardware that clearly did not belong to that set (picture included). I don't even understand what kind of an attempt this was. Weeks later we are still missing hardware and have furniture that cannot be put together. Huge scratches in antique furniture, broken glass shelves, the damage was insane. Our living room furniture was all left on its side. Absolute morons. Two boxes of wine/liquor bottles were smashed and left to soak into our rugs. These boxes were clearly marked "FRAGILE" "GLASS" and found the next morning smooshed between other boxes with broken wine bottles and tequila that soaked through the boxes under it and into our rug overnight. AND the 'owners' Tom and Mike (who NEVER even returned my calls). When they did respond to an email, they wanted to charge ME for the extra hours. WTF - it's not my problem your morons took 8 hours to offload a truck! And break everything they could. No compensation, nothing. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! read more

While reading the negative posts about State Wide Movers it's very obvious that those people were not properly prepared for their move. You cannot just throw things in a box without proper packing and expect it not to break. Come on people!! Get real!! As I said in my first post this company could not have been nicer and more accommodating!! I have a lot of collectables and not one thing was broken. Why? Because I took the time to wrap each item with care and also pack the boxes correctly. In order to have a perfect move the customer must be prepared, otherwise you will have situations like breakage and added time for loading, therefore more money. Also another tip for moving is not to have boxes that are 100 different sizes. Use boxes that are all small, medium and large. That way loading the truck will not be like a jigsaw puzzle. 3 yrs ago they moved our piano - dropped it down the stairs - it damaged the door frame. We called the owner to let him know. We wanted to have piano checked but he told us to keep our money and hung up on us. we now received a notice that our 'bill' has gone to collection agency. we called them and they said that they have been sending us bills - they have not. They said they have our signature that there was no damage. The signature does not even slightly resemble either of ours. I would give this company -5 stars if I could. I hired them to pack me and move me. I spoke with Loren, the owner. He quoted me about 8 hours to pack AND move my 1.5-bedroom apartment (with basement), and being naive, I believed him. The crew showed up late, with only TWO guys, and NO packing supplies. This is when I should have stopped everything, but I was naive and trusted them, so assumed they knew what they were doing. They did not. The moving guys complained the whole time, fought, took lots of breaks, and were generally unpleasant. Mine was their second move of the day, and Loren had told them it would be a quick move for a studio apartment. They said if they had known what a big move it would be they would not have come as their second job - no doubt Loren knew this, and lied to them to get them out. After searching the truck, they found a few HUGE wardrobe boxes and piled all my stuff indiscriminately into them, without even bothering to label them at all. (Why did they not just drive back to get legit supplies? Or call in to get the home office to send out some more guys?) As an example, one box had one of my couch cushions from downstairs, some of my sweaters from my upstairs bedroom, some papers and pens from my upstairs desk, and random items from the kitchen. These boxes were so heavy and unwieldy that I could not move them myself, yet the crew (or what passed for a crew) was VERY resistant to putting things where I asked them to in the new apartment. (I'm not talking specific instructions here, but things like "Don't put any boxes in this room, since that is not mine, put everything in this other room.") My husband and I worked our butts off for nearly 12 hours alongside the 2 guys, trying to do what we could to make sure we could get the move done, since it was the last day of our lease on our old place. We were packing, lifting, carrying, and reorganizing just as hard as the move crew, if not harder, since we weren't taking breaks to swear at people on our cell phones. Oh, and the best part - after a certain point in the evening, they just essentially gave up and said they were done, leaving LOTS of random things for us to move ourselves the next day. We should have protested, but we were also exhausted and upset and ready to just be done with the whole experience. (Fortunately, former landlord was sympathetic and let us extend the lease for another couple of days to get everything ACTUALLY moved, and then the place cleaned up.) Random things like they packed a tea strainer, but not its top (which was resting on top of it) - that got left behind in the cabinet. My experience was very close to that of L. R., who also reviewed this company. I am disappointed, but not surprised, that I was not the only one to have such a bad experience. When I later called Loren to complain about the poor service, he blamed the whole thing on one bad employee, and said that employee had been fired and therefore I should be satisfied. No, I don't think so. He acknowledged that it was a very bad experience, but did NOTHING to even attempt to make up for it - no discounts, no apology, nothing. Every experience I've had with this company has been incredibly negative. It's clear that the employees are unhappy, personnel is a serious issue, and Loren couldn't care less about his customers. We scheduled and confirmed our move for 9/8 between 9:30 and 10am. NO TRUCK ARRIVED! My wife tried to call numerous times from her phone, which she used to reserve and confirm, and only got their voicemail. Magically, when I called from my phone, Loren picked up immediately. I explained the problem and he said "We tried to reach you numerous times over the weekend and got a message that the number was no longer in service". I asked Loren to read me the number and it was off by one digit (how convenient) even though they had spoken to my wife no less than 4 times! Loren called back and said he could get a crew late in the evening or first thing the next day. I can only ask, what was the crew that was supposed to be moving us doing? What happened to the truck? A new reservation came in over Labor Day Weekend....? We informed him that we scrambled and found a reputable company to do the job!!! It's costing us a little more, but our peace of mind is worth it! Here's the icing on the cake.... the only reason we were using this company was because my wife is a retired teacher and actually taught the owners! Statewide moved me from a second floor apartment in Hamilton to a house in Princeton last week. Though they were running a bit behind schedule that day, they still managed to get the job done quickly and professionally. All four of the movers were polite and very hard working despite the late hour. One of them actually took the time to carefully remove and package a delicate glass mirror from my fiancées antique vanity (a family heirloom) to ensure it didn't get damaged in transit, then re-assemble it in its new location. Once we arrived at my new house, they positioned all of our furniture where we needed it to be as promised. The final bill was right in-line with the estimate is gotten from the manager, Loren. He will seem nice at the onset but if you ask questions voice any concerns or frustrations about the service he will turn on you and treat you with disrespect. Rude and nasty disposition. Anyway, the movers left before taking the entire living room set and that's why they were asked to come back. That was the whole point of it that the entire living room, 2 bedrooms were discussed but not picked up. The additional time was in dispute on my side based on that point. That was it. The third driver was given because your team was running late. They had said between 1-3. No compensation for your lateness. Didn't hear any apologies for that. They also helped me to move a Piano and again they were punctual and careful. The person Loren who was scheduling and coordinating the move was courteous and responsible. The owners and general manager were horrible to work with. We made it very clear when we had to be out of the house and they didn't show up until an hour and half before. This caused us to be late and we had to pay a wait charge to the buyers mover moving in to our home. They acted like they knew nothing about the time. They were only three hours plus late! Packing occurred the day before but not enough boxes were put on the truck so packing had to continue the day of the move. Very rude and nasty. I would never use them again or recommend them to anyone. The total cost came in 50% higher than what was quoted. Switch and bate routine. On the more positive side the guys that packed and moved us were good people. The driver did tell the owner about the deadline the day prior but the owner did not listen to him. Buyer beware if you use this service. The management does not care about customer service. We never even got an apology or a small gesture of a discount. read more

This is my first review on Yelp, but I made this account just so I can warn any potential customers about this company. This company is a SCAM. They stole my stuff, did not follow our agreement, have extremely poor customer service, used new, inexperienced high school students (first day on the job!), and took double the estimated time, costing me more than $500 than agreed upon. The move should have been simple. However, before they began, they insisted that everything should be wrapped, but what I didn't expect was how slowly and inefficiently they would do it. They even wasted time wrapping things like plastic chairs. All to take more time and get more money. They also didn't tell me they would charge $60 for the materials, even though they were keeping the materials! Then, while they were unloading, there were 4 people, but one person would unwrap the furniture, and another person would fold the wrap, so essentially I was paying 4 people for 2 people's work! The customer service was also terrible. We had an agreement to move a 400-lb gun safe from basement to basement, but when they were unloading the safe, the dolly they were using broke, so they forced me to leave the safe in the garage instead. When I complained that they were violating our agreement, they said that they would send someone back, but as of now they have still not contacted me or sent anyone. (And I highly doubt they ever will.) The nail in the coffin was when I discovered that I was missing a $300 antique table. I had looked in the truck before they left, but they definitely hid it behind some blankets in the back of the truck. When I went to call the manager, he of course denied that he found anything of the sort. Conclusion: DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. There are only one-star and five-star reviews for this company, but I would heed the one-star reviews more than trust the five-star ones. Absolutely deplorable. These guys took one item at a time, smoked cigarettes and left all my furniture and boxes in one room. Then when I paid then (with a tip). Persuaded to ring my doorbell 10 times and say "I thought you were playing or something you need to pay me $100 more". Upon calling the "manager" of this "fine" establishment he said his guys took one lamp at a time to be careful; and made his guys wait. Oh and I left the receipt of how much money I took out my account, so "it's not like you don't have extra to pay", because he's the one that works so hard for my money. This business should be shut down. Avoid at all costs. I would've paid double for someone that actually helped me move instead of leaving my stuff in my basement and oh, calling the cops. I don't even have a unpaid parking ticket so I don't know what he thought he was doing there. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE. Ok guys it's gets even worst, other than these guys trying to over charge us for a job not even done; then calling the cops which he thought would intimated us (wrong me and officer Day played with my son and laughed at you for calling this thief of service) moron. After a week to dig out of the rubble they left us in, we found damage to our walls. One of the movers said to me during the move "oh you can go to Home Depot and for $30 get something to remove those". Naturally I thought they were already there when we got in, you wouldn't think someone would be saying that when they caused the damage right? Wrong, my property manager had video of the apartment before; the walls were perfectly white and smooth. Statewide did a two apartment move; Morristown to Hamilton to Mount Laurel on a very hot and humid day, 8-17-2017. The guys, Tom and ?? (sorry I never did catch your name!) worked cheerfully and professionally. They placed furniture where we needed it and were very pleasant the entire day. Thank you so much! State-Wide Moving responded promptly to my request to move my pianos out of my apartment before a move-out deadline of three days. Not all moving companies responded to me in such a timely manner. That being said, I am afraid that I did not have a good experience with the move. I have three big complaints: 1. State-Wide Moving gave me a time frame of 1:00-3:00pm on a Tuesday for the move. They were running late, so they told me that afternoon that the movers would come by 5:00pm. I called again to get an update for the 5:00 time, and they said that they were running very late and would be able to come the next morning. I understand that delays happen. My mother and I both took off work as the move involved two different locations. We both lost a day's worth of work. 2. The move involved two pianos. One of the pianos was a grand piano and was meant to go downstairs in the new house. The movers could not maneuver it down as planned. After they could not move the piano, they called the office, and the full price still held. I mistakenly paid the movers on the spot. When I spoke to Loren after the move had taken place, he said that the company had to pay for an extra mover to go that day because a grand piano was involved. Also, the movers did make an attempt to move the piano down the stairs. I still should not have to have paid the full price, though. Loren did say that he would apply a discount to my next move with them, but this does not help me with my current situation. 3. With State-Wide Moving, one has to pay extra to insure the items in case they are damaged during the move. The company does have very minimal insurance ($0.60/pound after a $500 deductible). This coverage does not suffice. Loren told me that my own homeowners' insurance would probably pay better for moving costs. My homeowner's insurance does not provide this coverage (I am not sure which companies actually do), so I paid the State-Wide Moving extra to insure my items. I had to pay 2% for the amount that I want insured. So I had to pay $100 for insurance of $5,000. Other moving companies provide adequate insurance such as $500,000 or $1,000,000, for example. I did not go with these companies, though, because I was trying to meet a move-out deadline. I will not use State-Wide Moving again. Your experience may indeed be different and probably will not involve pianos. However, I was quite disappointed with the customer service that Loren provided me with these three points. Next time I move, I would suggest the following: (1) Do not pay in the moment if for some reason the movers cannot fulfill their duty. Contest the charge immediately. Once they have your money, then there is little incentive for them to reason with you. I did not feel that State-Wide Moving cared about customer service and wanted me as a loyal customer. (2) Find out about insurance. You should not have to pay an extra $100 for minimal insurance (I am not even talking about $500,000 or $1,000,000 insurance like other companies provide. I paid an extra $100 to insure a measly $5,000 on my piano.) By the way, I had called another reputable specialized piano mover to move the grand piano down the stairs, and they did it easily. They told me that the space was not even a tight one. In other music schools and private homes, they had to maneuver even tighter spaces. read more

I recently used Statewide Moving and Storage for my move and had the worst possible experience -- they were terrible movers. 1. We were moving on Friday. They showed up on Thursday. And when they came back on the right day, they showed up an hour late (even though they had a test run the day before!) 2. The quote that was given was 8-10 hours, and the final total ended up being 19 hours. Even though we had a hard deadline for moving into our new building and had told Statewide Moving so (which they said would be no problem), they ended up missing that deadline by six hours. We had negotiated a rate of $100/hour, but when they showed up they charged us $125/hour because they sent an extra mover, which is something we did not agree to, and something that we were not told would cost an extra 25%. 3. The movers came unequipped with the necessary tools, even though I had repeatedly told them that I had furniture that needed to be disassembled. We were charged for the hour they spent trying to ask other handymen working in our building for screwdrivers. Even though we told them the door would need to be taken off its hinges, they did not come prepared to do this. 4. The owner, Loren, was completely unhelpful when we called to ask him to hurry along the move. He told us that it was our fault for believing that his quote was correct. 5. The movers didn't know how to do simple things like hold doors open. There were other movers moving people into our building who had to show them how to prop open doors with duct tape. In sum, Statewide had horrible customer service, wasn't able to perform basic moving tasks, and totally gouged us on the price. We're thinking of reporting them to the Better Business Bureau for giving us a totally inaccurate quote in order to try to get some of the money back. Under no circumstances should anyone use them.
