I literally had dreams about getting married here one day, and I got to do just that on August 13, 2022. This is the most stunning wedding venue in the entire city, nobody can convince me otherwise. It looks gorgeous in photos, but you literally can't imagine how breathtaking it is in person. If the views aren't enough, their events team is next level (particularly Amber). Now bear with me through this part, because there's a reason we're still giving State Room 5 stars (spoiler alert, it's our amazing wedding goddess Amber). We had a bit of a rocky start after we signed the contract (nothing to do with Amber). We signed the contract in May and then backed off for a bit since our wedding was over a year away. Around October, we were speaking with our florist, and he asked if we knew Carolyn (our former wedding specialist) had left. We didn't and nobody from the venue ever reached out to let us know. I immediately emailed both our contacts there and both people whose emails I had were disconnected and had no email forwarding set up or any message directing me to another contact. I called the venue 3 or 4 times before finally speaking with someone and they let me know both people had left and they'd let me know when we had someone new. I was now trying to plan a wedding (at a not-so-inexpensive venue) with no wedding coordinator. Cue Amber! A literal angel who just made every wedding dream come true. This really should be a 4-star review, but Amber is so insanely amazing that she leaves me no choice but to make this 5 stars because anything less wouldn't be a fair testament to her. I am the most Type A a person can be and Amber answered every email, call, and panicked carrier pigeon I sent her way. She went above and beyond when we had issues with other vendors or needed last-minute changes that probably weren't even on her to help with. 100% would recommend booking the State Room for your wedding (even despite the challenges) because the staff really is in another league. What an Elegant and gorgeous wedding venue! The view overlooking the city during the day and at night was stunning. The venue was 2 story which allowed for a fantastic view of the banquet room. The upper level was where the pre-wedding cocktails/appetizers were served and photos with bride and groom. Then we made our way to the lower level for the start of the wedding and bride and groom's entrance. The food was delicious and so were the drinks. The restroom was well maintained as well. It was as dreamy wedding with such a breathtaking venue to dance the night away. Would love to be back for another wedding here in the future! read more

The State Room was the exact venue we imagined. We visited 10+ venues in the greater Boston area knowing that we wanted an indoor venue with beautiful views of either the water or the city-scape. We did our due diligence but once we saw the State Room, we knew it was the one. As others have stated, the views are unmatched. Their professionalism through the sales process, gave us 100% confidence we were in good hands up to and through our wedding day. Another deciding factor was that the cost fell into our perfect median in comparison to venues of the same measure. The reason for this positive review is because of the follow-through to achieve our dream wedding. No detail was left uncovered. Food was very important to us, and the menu and the quality of the food is again unmatched in comparison to other venues and is on par with great restaurants around Boston. We loved it at the tasting, but what is most impressive was their ability to execute for a reception of 175 guests, with the same excellent presentation and taste. Our coordinator, Amanda was not only a get-shit-done kind of gal which I appreciated, but was also organized, responsive to my emails (which there were a lot) and I always felt that we were on the same page in terms of style and delivery. The wedding day was the culmination of our hard work. The food was great, the views were breathtaking, and the event design was just as my Pinterest page had pictured. Amanda was solution-oriented for all my desires without breaking the bank. For example, their in-house tables chairs and linens worked well in the space, where I was able to reallocate budget to some of the other decor items. She guided me towards where best to spend the money. I know my guests were blown away. read more

I had my wedding here back in May of 2008 and I felt like it was a perfect day for us! We flew home to Boston to book the venue in June 2007 and they were very detailed about what everything will cost. Since our wedding was going to be in the evening, I wanted a cityside view so you can see the lights of the buildings reflecting off into the windows. It was totally worth every penny. The food was delicious and the service was top notch. We even got a wedding coordinator with the package, who helped us with everything. We had 6 passed appetizers with the Liguria table which consisted of steamed veggies and fruits and breads. We added the intermezzo in between meals for guests to clean their palates as well as a dessert and candy table for everyone to enjoy. The view was amazing and we had a great time. I'm also very pleased that President Obama celebrated his 47th birthday here. read more

Attended a wedding at this location. There is a concierge that greets guest at the main lobby and directs them to the top floor. The main area has 2 levels. The top level is used as a check in area where servers provide hors' dourves and beverages. A bar with a seating area is available. Guest are transitioned to the main area for dining. There is an area for a band and an additional bar. The view of the bay is spectacular. Food is amazing from hors' dourves to dinner. Servers cater to guest. Arrangements: They have a list of their preferred caterers, which you select. You may use an outside caterer for ax extra fee. Same goes for a photographer and band. Anything outside their preferred partners an additional fee is required. Also, the traditional end time is 11pm with an option for an additional 1 hour. We recently hosted our sons wedding at the state room. They did an amazing job. The food was spectacular and many guests remarked it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding. The servers and bartenders were fabulous. Carolyn was the point person for our wedding and she was very available by email and at the party. He "right hand woman" at the function was also lovely. I would host another wedding at the State Room in a heartbeat! (We lucked out with nice weather and a gorgeous view as well). The only change I would make is that I would ask the wedding cake to be delivered to the tables. The cake was tucked away at one side of the room and many guests missed it. read more

The State Room, located on the 33rd floor at 60 State Street, hosts wedding receptions, corporate events and grand galas. The venue can accommodate as many as 850 guests or as little as 50. The large bay windows offer a great view of downtown Boston and the harbor area. Their passed hors d'oeuvres (picture uploaded) were wonderful. The bar service was delightful, something that's rare with an open bar. The master of the hall or matre d' was on point. He was helpful and accommodating without being pushy or obnoxious. My husband's company held their holiday party here and it was great. Beautiful views around the whole place, great space for several different areas of activities, etc. They had the tables set upstairs and down, three or four bars set throughout, the band and dance floor, and several different serving stations. The staff was pleasant and the place was nicely decorated. Love the floor to ceiling windows and the beautiful view of the city. It was amazing to see Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market all lit up with the Xmas tree, etc. from above... and the water... It was a rainy cold night but still a wonderful view. read more

Attended an event here sponsored by the company. The reception hour was held in one of the rooms next to the Great Room. There were two food stations; sliced roast chicken and a beef brisket with mashed sweet potato served in a cast iron casserole! The beef was so tender and the I love the buttery mashed sweet potato. For desserts there were vanilla and chocolate cupcakes topped with caramel swirl and mocha coffee beans. Even the tea they served was really fancy. It was the pyramid shaped tea bags from the company, Tea Forte. I heard this was one of Oprah's favorite items. For the awards ceremony everyone was wisked to the Great Room next door. My fellow attedees and I were fortunate enough to sit in the front row. I was completely awed by the panoramic glass wall overlooking the Boston skyline. This is definitely on of the most beautiful places in Boston. I was looking for a venue that was modern with neutral colors & a waterfront background and thus chose the Harborside Salons for my wedding reception this past summer. The two best things about the State Room is the STUNNING view from the 33rd floor and that they are all-inclusive, so you don't have to worry about linens, chairs, catering, and cake (I Dream of Jeanne is their in-house dessert baker!!!) because it's all part of the package. Erica Phillips was my event coordinator and she was very professional and helpful. I really enjoyed working with her and she definitely made the process easier. On wedding day, I also had a complimentary attendant, Jackie, who was helpful in getting my husband and myself champagne, making sure we were eating, and organizing all of the things that we had to take home at the end of the night (cake knife, card box, photos, etc). Guests enjoyed the good service and delicious appetizers/entree (with the exception of the beef - everybody, including my husband and I at the tasting, felt it was average and a bit overdone). Also, it was 100 degrees on our wedding day so the air-conditioning was perfect. Minus 1 star for the following reasons: (1) They mixed up our table numbers - my father-in-laws family was supposed to sit in one of primary closest tables, and instead, my in-laws friends that we barely know were placed in one of the closets tables and in the background of most of our photos. To our family, it was implied as disrepectful and reflects poorly on my husband and me. (2) The State Room "event minimum" is different than the typical "food and beverage minimum" that most venues require. It means "preferred" photographers, flowers, upgraded linens can be included in the event minimum. If you include these preferred vendors in your event minimum, they charge you much more for their services than if you do not apply it to your event minimum. (I wonder if this is because they have to pay a certain % State Room for the referral.) (3) The mediocre beef dish as mentioned above. As a basic meal option, this needs improvement when brides are paying $300/guest. (4) Because I was overally happy with my wedding, I was excited about having a corporate event here but decided to go elsewhere because the saleswomen was so inconsistent about pricing and waited to mention all of these extra fees when I was about to sign. Unfortunately will be holding the corporate event elsewhere... Overall really happy with the wedding here but just wanted to point out some of the caveats so that other potential customers are aware and hopefully State Room will make improvements accordingly. read more

The State Room prides itself for great customer service and quality, and "bending over backwards". But, as a professional event planner I found them extremely hard to work with, very last minute in their BEOs, upselling my client constantly and, honestly, passive aggressive. I work with a lot of big venues in Boston, and sure, the location and the view is great, but what Longwood events capitalizes on, is the one-time wedding, bar mitzvah or birthday celebration. These events are run by people who are not professional and with very basic and cookie-cutter needs. What Longwood lacks is the ability to problem solve on the spot and actually really "bend over backwards". Other than the attitude and clear upselling, I have one specific example that was really bothersome: I had one vegetarian guest who did not like eggplant, and the staff simply said that since he did not write that as a food restriction, there was nothing they could do, as eggplant rollatini was the only options ordered by all events that night. Normally, I would go in the kitchen and talk directly to the chef, but they wouldn't let me in, so I talked with a waiter who 10 minutes later delivered the most beautiful vegetarian plate for my guest, not that hard if you try to make it happen! And while I am on the food: my staff had to eat all the same time, which is impossible for us to do, and my client had to pay for a separate (expensive) vendor box meal, a couple of us ended up skipping dinner. Because other events were happening at the same time, each time we opened the door, super loud Katy Perry music would blast into our room. So I would be careful with that too. If you want a truly beautiful venue with high quality service, go to the Boston Public Library, where they actually care about their clients. State Room gets two stars because of location. read more

I was here recently for a charity event and was amazed how fantastic this function room was. Too often these events are held in drab ballrooms, so I was excited to see how lovely the State Room is. I love that that this is an incredibly open space, yet the fact that it has an upstairs as well as it's overall "L" shape means that you can easily carry on a conversation without having to talk loudly and it still feels like an intimate space. However, only 4 stars because the security, or lack of security, was a bit odd. No one checked my name or asked to see a ticket. Given that this was a widely publicized event/event location, I was a bit surprised by this. read more

I went to a wedding here several years ago and fell in love. When I got enaged, we didn't even shop around. It was The State Room or bust. Granted, the rest of the budget took a beating due the price, but luckily almost everything else was coming from India, so we could afford the venue. The wedding team was very supportive. They helped us put together a great menu, from the consultation to the tasting to the actual event. Everything from the apps to cake was flawless. I can't really think of anything bad to say about the food or service. The view is to die for, and provided a breathtaking backdrop to the ceremony and then dinner. Everyone who hadn't been there was blown away. And everyone who had really liked the recent streamlined renovations. The set up from the wedding to dinner was seamless and well organized. The tables looked great and they followed our directions perfectly. The only complaint I had was when we had an emergency and an ambulence had to be called, no one from the State Room took charge and offered any services. Our wedding point person had taken off and had not left anyone in charge. The staff weren't sure what to do and it was chaos for a while.... Other than that, the night went off well. I would definitely reccomend the State Room as a venue for any kind of fancy event - hell even Bill Clinton throws parties there when he is in town! read more

The wife and I went to a wedding here. The view of the city was absolutely amazing. The place was very elegant and they seemed to have plenty of service staff on hand to help guests. The waiters were extremely responsive and even folded our napkins for us if we left the table. The food was very good as wedding reception food goes--much better than typical hotel reception hall food. Beer selection at the bar was weak though--come on, how can they serve Bud and Bud Light at a supposedly high class venue like this? The best beer they had was Sam Adams. read more

I unfortunately did not get to attend a wedding here, but instead attended a conference and can I just say - the view is MIND BLOWING? I don't know what else there is to say about this place. For a wedding however, I would think the space is a bit small, and that it's best to have 150 or fewer guests. Not sure if the food provided was catered from an outside vendor, but it too was spectacular. I really can't say enough about the view though. It overlooks part of downtown Boston and the harbor... and it was just magnificent. I took so many pictures of the view...I'll have to upload them to Yelp one day. As far as location goes, like any large metropolis' downtown, a cab is hard to come by. Ladies, the streets outside are endlessly lined with cobblestone - be sure to bring some extra shoes so as to save your feet from those pumps when hailing a cab! My company always puts on the fanciest holiday and corporate events! This was by far the best one I have experienced. Famous people get married and also throw fundraisers here! The view here is absolutely breath-taking! Food is awesome. Atmosphere screams POSH. Huge and open, tall ceilings. Waitstaff are pretty good. Bartender was awesome and personable. Yes I will come back on my company's tab....and I can only hope my daddy dearest offers to pay for my wedding here someday! read more

I couldn't find fault in anything here besides one person who just clashed with me. The venue hands down was the best location in all of Boston. I do quite a few events in Boston and was thoroughly impressed. There were multiple levels in the same magnificent room overlooking the city of Boston as well as Boston harbor, and the islands. The food was great which was unexpected with such a large crowd. Everything was very tasty and presented well. The servers were attentive, efficient, and poised. The food delivery was a perfected show of true class and every waiter was in sync with each other. If you are looking for an awe inspiring event look no further this is THE place. read more

Basically, doing it right the first time, the State Room has this mentality. I have performed wedding dj entertainment there four times myself and work in the industry. We have worked at many venues and NO ONE gets it perfect like The State Room. There is only one other place where I feel 110% comfortable with and that is the Lakeview Pavilion in Foxboro, MA. From the time you arrive, there is a point of contact to work with and they are on top of everything taking place so that you can execute the event timeline which I worked on with our Bride and Groom customer(s). The last event, I would have to say that there were 4 weddings all taking place at the same time and they actually made sure that no other Bride saw each other, it was incredible! Just commenting on the view, yes the view is amazing, even the smaller rooms, you catch a great view of Boston. Of course, the largest room is the best by far! We worked in a smaller room, the last visit but I have worked the larger room before. However, we took a look in the large room last year during the preparation of a ceremony. It was amazing, they had I swear a FLOWER TEAM, it looked like the Nascar Team for the Flower Industry! They had a drop cloth and a whole team cutting and trimming flowers on the spot, with the isle all prepared which was beautiful. One thing though if you are a Bride and Groom looking for a Band or DJ, PLEASE warn them in advance (if of course they never worked there) to arrive early because the load in for equipment is quite intense and time consuming. We have it down to a science now but the first time was somewhat of a shock. Other than that, we give the State Room, 5 stars! Longwood Events owns the State Room from what I understand and the also owns two other sites. Both venues STATE ROOM and BALLROOM VERONIQUE owned by LONGWOOD EVENTS. INITIAL yet short lived IMPRESSION: The Ballroom Veronique was beautiful and it appeared the staff at Longwood Events was that of utmost professionalism. I have to say that if it weren't for my resourcefulness, our outside vendors and good company, our wedding would have been a disaster at the fault of the terrible service exuded by the "so-called" pro's at Longwood Events. I never felt so disgusted, and like we didn't matter. Their attitude and service sucks, and now I am just trying to let other brides be aware. HUGE MISTAKE BOOKING HERE. During the planning process we were faced with a lack of attention and service by the staff in Brookline and Boston proving evident during our event. We were quite displeased with the staff's lack of promptness, response and unprofessionalism. We felt as if our resourcefulness and easy demeanor contributed to the appearance of our event's success to our wedding guests, but by no means with the help from the staff at Longwood Events. I had to request a face to face meeting with someone at the Ballroom in order to get answers to specific inquiries that were not responded to. The staff canceled appointments with us with no notice due to double booking. I had to continually request necessary documents from the staff and updates. A month and half went by with no response from the staff regarding our event. We received our event contract 10 days before the event and were expected to be held to deadlines, which they hadn't even followed. Two weeks prior to the event I was not able to get a response from anyone at Longwood Events even after escalating to the Corporate Event Director. During the event, we were continually pushed by the staff interrupting our receiving line. During our formal portrait session, we again were continually interrupted to accommodate another wedding party scheduled to take their pictures. There is no where to take pictures! I have quoted one of our vendors who witnessed the scene "I was just astounded by how vigorously that coordinator woman harassed you about altering your cocktail hour and starting dinner early. I have never seen a coordinator bother a bride, much less harass them repeatedly, as that woman did to you. She was extraordinarily rude to you, in my opinion. They knew your itinerary, and knew the program for your ceremony. If they were so concerned about an extra long cocktail hour, they should have parlayed the ceremony and not demanded that you alter the itinerary; that you had all agreed upon previously. I found their behavior towards you pretty horrifying." My husband and I completely agree. As our parents were getting announced into the reception for the first time from the foyer, my mother-in-law expressed concern for the card cage near the door and our coordinator just shrugged her shoulders and said, "we are not responsible for the cards". Even if one of the staff members agreed to stand by the cards until the announcements were over, or had one of the coordinators informed us of this prior to the event, we could have planned for it. They offered no help. My parents missed their announcements as a result. There was no attention to any of the discussed details. Throughout the reception, my husband repeatedly had to inform the staff that paper towels were needed in the bathroom. The Corporate Director handled my complaint, responding when it was convenient for her, and thought she expressed her sentiment well. I found it completely lacking empathy, completely condescending and downright rude. Huge billing issue at the end, I requested a refund, STILL PENDING. They have the choice here to make things right. Our discontent lies with those we interacted with. We felt a relationship was never developed and we were never given the proper attention and information by each staff member in Sales and Event Coordination. My husband and I have worked in Sales and Customer Service for almost 10 years, and realize the two must go together for a positive experience, especially from a company dealing with people planning possibly the biggest, most important event in a lifetime. I have never experienced such a lack of respect, lack of priority and concern as we did with the folks at Longwood Events Brookline/Boston. read more

Like Lindsey G, I had a wedding here in 2007. Like her, I had some difficulties to say the least I'd like to give it a better rating because the view is spectacular and the food overall is good. But from the events that happened the day of and After is what alters my star rating. I, too, went through 2 planners and had to go through instructions, questions, etc twice. The day of, I had an employee raise his voice at me about some missing flowers that were ordered through my florist (who was supposed to deliver to the venue but instead handed the responsibility off to me because she 'was stuck in traffic' ). Who in the world would bother a bride about something that has nothing to do with her own wedding? He should have taken this matter up with the florist not me. I had to send my bridesmaids in search of the missing flowers and one had to apologize to my GRANDMOTHER-IN LAW for ripping the flower off of the dress to give to the next door event. Not only that, they broke several pieces of my centerpieces and then blamed my friends/wedding coordinator. When I asked my friends what had happened, they told me the staff had broken it when they were setting up the tables. I had back and forth emails with the good ol' planner and she assured me that she trusts the words of the staff and her staff said blamed my friends for breaking centerpieces. I asked her if there were any cameras and she promised she would check out the tapes. Then she ignored my emails for the rest of the week. The next week I received my photographers raw photos, and what do you know... he caught everything on camera ! I emailed the pictures to her proving her staff had broken it proving they also LIED. I didn't hear from her again so only when I emailed her superior that I would like to resolve these issues, was when I heard back from her. I didn't receive a reimbursement because I didn't have receipts for what I paid for the centerpieces. Oh did I mention the staff also broke our toasting flutes ? The level of customer service completely deteriorated after the wedding. Basically they wanted us to pay the bill and be done with the niceties. Beautiful venue. But there were some problems. Attending a wedding here, one of the fellow guests was repeatedly mistaken by staff for a server and subsequently denied service and treated rudely. The bar wouldn't give him drinks, he was told to use the service elevator... He was not wearing the uniform or an apron. He was, however, black. I guess they're just used to a "certain kind of person" being a guest. That really soured the evening fast. More trivially, the music was far too loud for the space; we couldn't really talk to anyone around us. There was also equally loud music going on in the wedding next door and ruined the mood for several toasts and such. At the bar, I ordered a whiskey sour, took one sip, and said, "Oh god, that's awful." I then made several more people try it, just for fun, and each time they looked back at me with this sad, confused look. The conclusion was that it was spoiled lemon juice with tonic water and a splash of whiskey. I was too afraid to try anything else. State Room: work on your volume, cocktails, and racism. You have a beautiful space and you should have the service to match. read more

Just attended a wedding reception at the State Room. Could not have been more pleased with how everything turned out. I have several years of past experience in hotel operations and the quality assurance end of the business and can tell you there are few operations which execute as flawlessly as the staff at the State Room. The onsite planner collaborated seemlessly with the bride. Set realistic expectations and delivered. The planner and her staff appeared to work with outside vendors (lighting, sound, drayage companies, florists, band) transparently, turning the main room over without a hitch for the 200 guests in attendance. Every guest commented on what a marvelous experience they had or were totally impressed with the service, the food and ambiance. Sure the view is magnificent, but you may as well be looking at a wall if the timing is off, the food is subpar and the myriad of details such as floral arrangements, sound and seating are not thought out well in advance and executed. I was present prior to the guests arrival so had an oppurtunity to inspect the arrangements before hand. I did not have an issue with a thing. The one special request I required was graciously accommodated. My one strong recommendation to someone planning a wedding is to never use an outside wedding planner. They only add unnecessary drama to an already stressful event. They tend to make the event about themselves in an attempt to prove their worth to the exorbitant rate they charge. And have at times, made requests more like demands, which have introduced risk to the operation. Save the money and stay with the inhouse staff and stay fully engaged. The experience leading up to the big event will be remembered forever as well, and it should be enjoyable. An outside planner brings their Louis Vuitton-size-luggage-of-issues along for the ride. The views from this venue are spectacular !! Unfortunately I found the management staff unresponsive while planning our party, and when we arrived none of the room was set up. Also the wait staff was rude. I would not go back. read more

This Place is AMAZING. I went there for a charity event. Aside from the fact that there was free food and an open bar, there was a 360 degree aeriel view of the city, it was incredible. It is definitely on of my favorite places in the city! read more

We had our wedding reception in the Harborside room and it was perfect! They were really easy to work with. The event was as smooth and stress-free as could be. The whole thing was just perfect! It's a little on the pricey side, but boy do you get your money's worth! The room is gorgeous, they're wonderful to work with, the food is delicious, the drinks are good, the view is phenomenal, and it's overall just a great group to work with. read more

We had our ceremony and wedding reception in State Room and it was absolutely perfect. The view is unbeatable - you can literally see the entire city for miles out. We had a winter wedding and the snow on top of the buildings was just gorgeous. The venue provides you with an Event Specialist as part of your package which is extremely helpful. We had Sarah and she executed my exact vision. The food was amazing. Normally wedding apps and dinner are mediocre and forgettable...we had people talking about our food even weeks after the wedding. The chef on site is from Four Seasons and was willing to even change some of the menu choices upon request. We opted for station style and had some unique choices like a taco bar. For desert we had an ice cream bar instead of cake. The best thing about the venue is that it is a clean slate. There are no ugly carpets or heavy curtains. The floors are beautiful hard wood and the windows are floor to ceiling. You can bring in any type of furniture or use their traditional round tables. It really allows you to be creative and customize your day. read more

I recently went here for a Christmas Party and right from the moment I walked in I was in awe. First, the atmosphere for the entire place is very appropriate for a formal event. Second, the space is HUGE! There had to be over a 1000 people in the place and there was plenty of space to move around. Third, the staff was extremely courteous and attentive and the food was great as well ! There are plenty of bars in the space to not be waiting too long for a drink. So while it's true that the people make an event (and the people DEF made the event!) the space definitely adds a different dimension to it. I've never see a more beautiful view (aside from top of the hub perhaps) of Boston. The windows must be at least 50 feet high and they go through the length of the room. Plus all of us dressed up only added to the entire ambience. Absolutely loved it here and I'll phish for events to go back here :) read more

I have been to numerous corporate events at The State Room, and I have nothing but praise for the venue. The panoramic view of Boston is breathtaking, and it's a really classy establishment in which to host a special event. The staff are professional and accommodating (to the point where, you know, it's weird if you're not into being That Guy). There are multiple bars and rest rooms, so depending on the size of your event you can accommodate everyone with no waiting in line for beverages. I'm sure The State Room doesn't come cheap, but it's well worth it for memorable and impressive occasions. read more

I was married here in 2007 and it is a fantastic venue. The food, service and mostly the VIEW were truly amazing. One star off for price and billing, we had some major bill issues at the end which kind of put a damper on my magical day! read more
