However, this is something I've noticed in a lot of train stations, both in the eastern US and where I've been in Europe. We were lucky enough to get seats right away, so we planted down and took shifts getting food and snacks for the train. There are a lot of places to get a snack here, and there are even some stores selling product but the one thing I found odd was that none of the stores sold toiletries. And yes, I went to all the stores, including two of the same store just on opposite sides of the station. Once our track number was posted (and the boards here were clear and large so you could really see where you had to go) it was easy to take the escalator up and wait for your train topside.

Taking the train here from Paris (pre paid tickets months ago), we ended up on the wrong section of the train, actually on the wrong train?!?! They connected two trains together; I guess there was a huge demand today. So where was the sign that said my seats were in the front/first train...? Or in the rear second train...? Of course, now my wife and I are separated... My poor wife sat next to a sick coughing person. Glad I keep an extra N95 mask in my bag for emergencies like this. And I sat next to a woman on her phone talking for almost the entire 2 hour train ride... I think her battery and extended battery both died on this ride, lol. And to make matters worse, the people that the seats belonged to had a huge group, standing in the aisles, talking, rubbing their backs against my arm. On the train ride back, we went out of our way to confirm that we were on the correct train and seats! Ambiance - Was good, until we realized that we were in the wrong train and that there were two trains connected to each other. Service - NONE!! When we went to complain, the conductor said just to sit (or stand) anywhere... Good luck Price - 188 Euros, $229 US; not worth it for our experience. One could either purchase the tickets from the bus driver or buy online the day before. I suggest getting tickets ahead as it speeds up the line. The tour wound 15 miles around Lyon. A tip is to get off at the Roman ruins or the Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourviere. Buses are between 40-60 minutes and so there is plent my of time to visit these two sites. There are also toilettes at the Basilica's nearby cafe and gift shop. There are only two more stops after the Basilica and then you're back at Place Bellecour. The bus was a better option than taking the funicular from Vieux Lyon or hiking up/down.

We hailed the Uber from my phone and the driver arrived on time. He didn't speak any English, but who cares? My French sucks. He took us exactly where we needed to go. We called another one on the way home and the guy was super friendly and the ride was pleasant. Same price. I highly recommend the Uber services in Lyon.

What happened? i booked a ride in May 24 at 5.30am to get a bus to reach Paris for my flight. All was confirmed by email with the usual "feel free to cancel your ride 30mn before". all good. I could sleep. I wake up on a Sunday morning at 4.30am to go. Guess what? noone ever showed up! Sunday in France, no car in site. No phone as i live abroad. No taxi, no rental car office as they are closed on Sundays. I missed my bus, there was no train and ofc i missed my flights! i had to rebook everything, borrow people s phones, carry my suitcases in the coutry to get out. This was horrible ! I found the UBER business email which is the only decent person i could talk to who kept on referring me to the APP which dishonestly removed that Cancelled ride. Ignored ! fully ignored for one year ! HOWEVER, i am not leaving this here. I will carry on pestering everyone here, on FB, on X and on Linkedin until i get satisfaction. If we let them get away they will carry on existing. With this behavior they should NOT. My father was nearly hospitalized in Lyon, and we avoided paying out of pocket for the night by agreeing to go in for a followup CAT scan the next morning at 8am. I called 04 72 10 86 86 at 7:04am and she very cheerfully accepted a reservation for 7:30am to go directly to the HOSPITAL. At 7:34 she called me to say there were no cars and no one would be coming for us. Why she couldn't have told us that sooner, I have no idea. She then said she'd find one, she then said she couldn't, we went back and forth over this for 20 minutes, finally she said she'd found one and I breathed a sigh of relief. Merci! I said. Wrong move. 40 minutes later she accused me of having hung up on her at this point, which was the furthest thing from the truth. End of story we finally got a cab, we got Dad to the CAT scan late, and on our way the cabbie gave us his card, offering to come get us at the end. And then I finally understood how things get done in Lyon - find a cabbie you like and get his card. There are no cars for dispatch because not even the cabbies like working with those disagreeable, ahem, "people".

There isn't much to see whilst you are on your way up to Fourviere because you travel through a tunnel but keep your eyes open for some art and sculptures that are in the nooks in the walls. I'd suggest riding up one side and down the same so you get to see both sides of the wall. I'm also pretty sure I saw an open toilet with a sink so, hey you may get quite the view in here. The funicular comes pretty often so we didn't even check a timetable. We just showed up and waited. Very easy.

F2 - a more traditional 1m track with a mid-point where the up and down cars pass each other. This is the Mimes-St Just funicular.
