This very busy train station in Lyon, France is the primary railway station. It is like a shopping…read moremall inside with many restaurants, coffee shops and stores. The kiosks are spread throughout the main floor. There are counter purchase offices at one end on the second floor. Once ticket is purchased you have to keep look at the monitors to know which terminal the train will be. It is usually announced 15-20 minutes prior to departure. Restrooms are available on the second floor for 1 euro paid by credit card. There is some seating there but not too much in the whole train station. It still amazing how many trains travel through there.

While on the platform you need to look at one of just a few tv screens to see where your numbered car will line up on the lettered platform.

Overall a very nice tour of Lyon. The bus tour starts at the Place Bellecour, Lyon's largest plazas…read moreor town squares. The first bus is at 10am. One could either purchase the tickets from the bus driver or buy online the day before. I suggest getting tickets ahead as it speeds up the line. The tour wound 15 miles around Lyon. A tip is to get off at the Roman ruins or the Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourviere. Buses are between 40-60 minutes and so there is plent my of time to visit these two sites. There are also toilettes at the Basilica's nearby cafe and gift shop. There are only two more stops after the Basilica and then you're back at Place Bellecour. The bus was a better option than taking the funicular from Vieux Lyon or hiking up/down.

It was a great way to see these areas of the city and to climb the hill to the cathedral! Our only negative was to have to wait an hour so that we could continue on after the last stop to the first. Having been on a longer trip, and taking the train 4 times with my luggage already, the idea of taking public transit to get to the train wasn't something I wanted to do again. I asked about the price of a cab and they thought it would be around 50 Euros. I decided to do a little looking on my own and found they had Uber in Lyon. I got a rate quote, and was soon on the way to the airport for only 35 Euros! The driver didn't speak much English, but was very polite and tried to make conversation. He didn't even want to accept a tip! If you find yourself in Lyon and don't want to take the train or pay more for a cab it's an excellent option.

At 7:34 she called me to say there were no cars and no one would be coming for us. Why she couldn't have told us that sooner, I have no idea. She then said she'd find one, she then said she couldn't, we went back and forth over this for 20 minutes, finally she said she'd found one and I breathed a sigh of relief. Merci! I said. Wrong move. 40 minutes later she accused me of having hung up on her at this point, which was the furthest thing from the truth. End of story we finally got a cab, we got Dad to the CAT scan late, and on our way the cabbie gave us his card, offering to come get us at the end. And then I finally understood how things get done in Lyon - find a cabbie you like and get his card. There are no cars for dispatch because not even the cabbies like working with those disagreeable, ahem, "people".

There isn't much to see whilst you are on your way up to Fourviere because you travel through a tunnel but keep your eyes open for some art and sculptures that are in the nooks in the walls. I'd suggest riding up one side and down the same so you get to see both sides of the wall. I'm also pretty sure I saw an open toilet with a sink so, hey you may get quite the view in here. The funicular comes pretty often so we didn't even check a timetable. We just showed up and waited. Very easy.

F1 - a single 2m track up Fourviere and the fancy church ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/basilique-notre-dame-de-fourvière-lyon-2 ). F2 - a more traditional 1m track with a mid-point where the up and down cars pass each other. This is the Mimes-St Just funicular.
