I wanted to share this for anyone trying to choose a surgeon...because I know firsthand how…read moreoverwhelming and important this decision is. When I first met Dr. Gassman, I'm not even going to lie... my first thought was, "He looks like Doogie Howser" I remember thinking, wait... are you old enough to be doing this?! But that feeling didn't last long. I came in with a million questions (seriously), and he answered every single one with patience, confidence, and detail. He never made me feel rushed or like I was asking too much which meant a lot during such a big decision. I also did a ton of research on him where he's worked, reviews, everything. That's when I learned how much he specializes in DIEP flap reconstruction and microsurgery, which made me feel even more confident in choosing him. I also loved learning that he has a passion for art and uses that in his work--and honestly, it shows. He is incredibly talented and takes pride in what he does. For reference, I'm 5'3" and about 205 pounds, so if you're someone who's plus size and wondering how this surgery might go for you--I hope this helps ease your mind. Also--before surgery, I was a very small A cup. I actually joked with Dr. Gassman and told him, "I'm the president of the itty bitty titty committee, and if you can get me out of the committee, I would greatly appreciate it" Let's just say... I woke up from my first surgery officially out of the committee--whoop whoop! I had my first DIEP flap surgery on December 3, 2025. I want to share this part because I know it's something everyone worries about--pain. For that first surgery, Dr. Gassman used nerve blocks, and he is phenomenal at them. I actually didn't use any pain medication at all, which still surprises me looking back. The recovery itself was tough (as expected with a major surgery), but the pain control was handled so well. I just had my second surgery on March 20, 2026, and I was honestly nervous...but it ended up being so much easier. I didn't have nerve blocks that time, and it honestly just feels like I did a really intense workout--more sore than actual pain. That was a huge relief. My results are looking good so far, and I even got a new belly button and was able to lower my scar, which I'm super grateful for ! I also want to recognize Dr. Elmi, who performed my double mastectomy. I originally started this journey as a preventative measure, but after my first surgery, she sat down with me and gently explained that I did in fact have cancer. She took the time to draw everything out and explain exactly what type it was in a way I could truly understand. Even though I don't live in San Antonio, she made sure I was set up with care back home in Florida, which meant so much to me. Looking back, I laugh at my first impression--but I'm so grateful I trusted both of these doctors. They are not only highly skilled, but they truly care about their patients. If you are trying to make this decision, I hope my experience gives you a little peace of mind. You will be in very good hands.

I am now 7 weeks post-op, and I am finally ready to get back to activities. I am walking regularly, increasing speed and/or distance a little at a time, and I am so excited to hopefully get back to "running" very soon. Of course, an important added benefit is that my clothes fit better, and I present myself more confidently as my posture has also improved! Further, Dr. Bindewald's office staff is awesome! Joanne was so patient with me, especially those first few weeks following surgery. She consulted with Dr. Bindewald, even on his surgery day, and got back to me with answers very quickly. Dr. Levine and his office staff were very kind and made me feel so comfortable. After my first meeting with Dr. Levine, I knew he was the absolute best doctor to perform my procedure. He took his time answering all of my questions and never made me feel rushed or that he needed to get on with his day. When you walk into his office there are newspaper articles and achievement awards lining the walls. His credentials, along with his honors and awards are extremely impressive. He was a bit more expensive than the other plastic surgeons I consulted with, but without a doubt, I knew he was worth every penny. I had no doubts about his ability to perform the surgery, keep me safe, and give me the results I was seeking. During the consultation phase, one of his staff members noticed I had developed a nasty cough. She contacted the doctor and he insisted I see a pulmonary specialist before he would do surgery. He called a specialist and got me an appointment within a few days. I had seen 4 previous doctors for this cough before the specialist diagnosed me with asthma. So, 2 1/2 months of a horrible cough was finally diagnosed and cured within 2 days of seeing the specialist Dr. Levine sent me to. Just another instance of Dr. Levine taking care of his patient. My surgery was very successful and I am very pleased with the results. After the 4th or 5th day, I'd say I was up and moving around quite well (driving, cooking, laundry, etc.). Dr. Levine is very well known and respected in the medical field, and I now have first hand knowledge as to why that is.

They also market that they don't charge for consults but then they ended up saying that they were keeping a deposit that they should have returned bc of the "work they did from the consults."

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN HERE. ESPECIALLY IF THEY STRUGGLE WITH SELF CONFIDENCE…read more A doctors office should be a safe place! I am not one to write a review but I had to warn others especially since he's listed as a pediatric surgeon. I'll start by saying time was not the issue. I am a very patient person. Just keep reading through. I was referred to " Dr Peter Wang" from a Dr in Austin and I'm struggling to see what they saw in him to convince me to get a ride all the way to San Antonio to see him. When I first showed up the front desk couldnt find my referral and said I didn't have an appointment even though it was already booked and the appointment was verified both verbally and electronically. They found my referral shortly after I pulled up the original one through my email and on my chart. I was in the waiting room watching everyone who got there after me leave until it was empty for an hour and a half after my appointment time. I wasn't told until I asked that he was in emergency surgery but they said he had just finished and would be right with me. They took my vitals and sent me to another waiting room. Then after another 35 mins I asked if he would be in soon and then I was sent to the patient room and again waiting another 20 min. After he finally got in the room he said "so what's wrong with you" I proceeded to tell him my known diagnosis. I have a "Rathke cleft cyst" it is located on my pituitary gland. This is congenital meaning that's something that I was born with. I am now 24 years old and have been experiencing an array of symptoms since I was 7 years old (Ex: Seizures, migraines, chronic nausea/throwing up, fatigue, small tumors in my breast and abnormal periods.. and so on.). I am trying to get this removed to see if it will alleviate any of this issues or if they will persist. I came in for a consultation on my nose since that's where the surgery will be going through. I was told by a neurosurgeon that the deviation in my septum would need to be fixed up on my right side specifically because I can barely breathe from it and the opening is too narrow. He proceeded to criticize and critique all the imperfections on my face/nose. Told me he could make me look "more aesthetically appealing by shaving down the dorsal hump and fixing areas on my cheeks." Something I didn't even ask about to begin with.. Until I got so uncomfortable that i told him to stop and I left the patient room and went to the front desk to ask about who I send a formal complaint to. I was then given the wrong number twice. I left this building crying and with insecurities Ive never had before. As a grown woman. I can't even imagine what this would do to a child.

However , when I arrived and checked in ( verified insurance and contact information) she called to the back and didn't get anyone, so she walked back there, then came back to advise that he would not be able to see me that day! My mouth dropped and I said " why, and that I had driven an hour and a half! She walked back again and came back to tell me again that he couldn't see me , and she explained to him about my travels and the time I had waited for this appointment, but he advised her that he had to go somewhere after my appointment!!! She also indicated that he had other patients to see that had emergency's!!!!! What???! I'm totally appalled and disappointed and upset with the lack of patient care or concern! Who or why was it decided that other people are more important then me????I have anxiety, health issues, back and knee issues as well as mobility issues just to name a few and I didn't sleep the Sunday night before. But , i had to push through, get up and get showered and dressed and drive myself down to SA!!!! This was a very dismissive response coming from a healthcare professional and indicated to me that my health concerns and issues are NOT important to Dr. Wang! I wasn't offered the opportunity to be seen in a hour or later that day or even telehealth!!! This man did NOT even lay eyes on me! Definitely mind boggling. All, i could do was get to my-car and cry! I had wasted my gas at $3.49 a gallon to drive 143 miles round trip for absolutely nothing! By the way, I had several panic attacks driving there and I was charged $2.00 for parking. Makes, me totally nervous about seeing a provider/ professional with this type of demeanor!
