I wanted to share this for anyone trying to choose a surgeon...because I know firsthand how overwhelming and important this decision is. When I first met Dr. Gassman, I'm not even going to lie... my first thought was, "He looks like Doogie Howser" I remember thinking, wait... are you old enough to be doing this?! But that feeling didn't last long. I came in with a million questions (seriously), and he answered every single one with patience, confidence, and detail. He never made me feel rushed or like I was asking too much which meant a lot during such a big decision. I also did a ton of research on him where he's worked, reviews, everything. That's when I learned how much he specializes in DIEP flap reconstruction and microsurgery, which made me feel even more confident in choosing him. I also loved learning that he has a passion for art and uses that in his work--and honestly, it shows. He is incredibly talented and takes pride in what he does. For reference, I'm 5'3" and about 205 pounds, so if you're someone who's plus size and wondering how this surgery might go for you--I hope this helps ease your mind. Also--before surgery, I was a very small A cup. I actually joked with Dr. Gassman and told him, "I'm the president of the itty bitty titty committee, and if you can get me out of the committee, I would greatly appreciate it" Let's just say... I woke up from my first surgery officially out of the committee--whoop whoop! I had my first DIEP flap surgery on December 3, 2025. I want to share this part because I know it's something everyone worries about--pain. For that first surgery, Dr. Gassman used nerve blocks, and he is phenomenal at them. I actually didn't use any pain medication at all, which still surprises me looking back. The recovery itself was tough (as expected with a major surgery), but the pain control was handled so well. I just had my second surgery on March 20, 2026, and I was honestly nervous...but it ended up being so much easier. I didn't have nerve blocks that time, and it honestly just feels like I did a really intense workout--more sore than actual pain. That was a huge relief. My results are looking good so far, and I even got a new belly button and was able to lower my scar, which I'm super grateful for ! I also want to recognize Dr. Elmi, who performed my double mastectomy. I originally started this journey as a preventative measure, but after my first surgery, she sat down with me and gently explained that I did in fact have cancer. She took the time to draw everything out and explain exactly what type it was in a way I could truly understand. Even though I don't live in San Antonio, she made sure I was set up with care back home in Florida, which meant so much to me. Looking back, I laugh at my first impression--but I'm so grateful I trusted both of these doctors. They are not only highly skilled, but they truly care about their patients. Impressed with the staff from start to finish once I got my appointment. It did take well over 4 months for a consultation but once I was in, everything has been very smooth. I am 11 days post op and headed to my first in-person appointment since I am traveling from Corpus. I hope the rest of my journey continues to be this smooth. The GAP-flap you performed has left me with deep adhesions that have left me with sciatic and femoral nerve issues, daily pain, and, at times, having to use a cane to walk. I'm now deemed disabled because of it. My letters and e-mails remain unanswered to date, a few years later. PRMA will not take responsibility for what they did. I do not recommend them. read more

PRMA and Dr. Ochoa are a fantastic choice for breast surgery. I had a reduction mammoplasty, and 6 weeks later, and extremely happy with my results. Dr. Ochoa really listened to my wishes and everything came out well. Crystal, one of the nurses was very helpful and responsive to my almost daily questions at every step of the way. Never in a million years did I think breast cancer would be a reality of mine. Add in the fact that I would have to get a double mastectomy - it could have been a complete nightmare. PRMA made this experience for me much less traumatic for me. Dr. Ledoux is incredibly amazing in so many ways. From the moment I met him, I felt like I was in the best hands possible. Not only him, but the entire staff from the front office, the back office, the nurses, and the doctors. When I mentioned my team of Dr's to a nurse at the local hospital - her reply was - "wow you really do have the dream team". I had a double mastectomy with expanders to implants. The entire process was explained to me in detail and was 100% accurate to my personal experience from surgery to healing. I didn't think it was possible to get the results that I have and I wasn't sure how I was going to look in the mirror after my surgery. But I am happy to report how happy I am and how confident I feel looking in the mirror and in a bathing suit. Dr Ledoux has given me so much to be thankful for and there is no way I could ever put in to words what he has done for me. I truly believe these Dr's at PRMA are the absolute best in the country. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, I started researching reconstruction options but had no idea who to use. Living in west Texas, I didn't have many options so I used the advice of my radiologist and made an appt with General Surgeons Assoc who then recommended PRMA for the reconstruction I wanted. I met with Dr Gary Arishita and breathed a sigh of relief. Everyone there from the receptionist through the rest of the staff are so welcoming, comforting and capable. The details they insist on seem onerous sometimes but they have reconstruction down to an art and these details are what I believe make the difference in their results. I have a friend who had the same surgery in a big hospital in the DFW area, but didn't have to do all the little things both in the hospital and at home before and after surgery - she was relieved about that, however one of the breast reconstructions did not "take" and the tissue actually died. I believe completely if you choose these doctors and follow their directions faithfully, you will have great results. read more

Yes, I had breast cancer but I'm so grateful for my experience. Being referred to Dr. Arishita at PRMA was a true blessing. He is truly doing what he was meant to do in life. He is an amazing surgeon with great bedside manner. 6 weeks post op and my incisions are beautiful, I can't imagine what they will look like in one year, five years. I was extremely anxious going into my surgery but from the first appointment Dr. Garza took his time with me not only to explain every detail of what was to come but to make sure I was comfortable, at ease, and happy with the experience and results. His staff were kind and attentive and Dr. Garza was so personable I actually looked forward to my appointments. Despite a difficult recovery I was taken care of so well it breezed by. Although I have another surgery to go my current results far exceeded my expectations. My wife and I cannot possibly say enough wonderful things about the PRMA staff and Dr. Minas Chrysopoulo. Breast Cancer is scary enough with having chemo and surgery -- but finding out that you are a genetic marker carrier (BRCA1) and need a double-mastectomy/reconstruction makes it an even heavier burden to bear. Having done a lot of research into mastectomies, reconstruction, direct-to-implant and other surgeries, we found the DIEP Flap procedure which looked like an amazing solution for her. Researching literally dozens of hospitals and clinics around America we didn't find that many surgeons that even performed the DIEP Flap procedure - and even fewer that produced good aesthetic results. In fact, some of the post op "After" pictures were pretty bad. Continued research led us to PRMA and to Dr. Chrysopoulo specifically. His patient reviews and post-op pictures looked not just good, but EXCELLENT. We traveled to San Antonio (from Colorado) to consult with him and the staff and it was a wonderful experience. Dr. Chrysopoulo truly cares about his patients and he made time to ensure that my wife (and I) fully understood the procedure, the recovery, cancer mitigation, etc. He was very kind as well as informative and he always provided answers to our questions until we were fully satisfied and comfortable with the procedure. Dr Arishita and the PRMA team has been a huge blessing to my family. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 and traveled over 500 miles to have Dr Arishita perform a DIEP flap procedure. I had fat grafting after my lumpectomy left a significant deficit. Dr. Chrysopulo was incredibly kind and attentive to how I was feeling about the procedure. When I was first diagnosed with cancer I had a consultation with a plastic surgeon with another practice. I wasn't given information about the options just asked what I wanted to do. I was so frustrated, how could I make a decision without any information!? A nurse referred me to PRMA and I was so relieved after meeting with Dr. Ledoux. He sat down and went over the pros and cons of the different options as well as answering all of mine and my husband's questions. I went to PRMA in February 2014 for reconstruction after a disastrous experience with a double mastectomy in California. It took me a year to recover from a terrible infection given to me by UC Davis. I spent that year in and out of the hospital. Many surgeries and very little faith in the doctors. When I finally healed I knew I wanted reconstruction and so I started researching my options. I was most interested in using my own tissue so Diep Flap was my first choice. PRMA did such a beautiful job on my body but probably more importantly on my self esteem. I felt mutilated before the Diep Flap surgery. Dr. Gary Arishita was my surgeon and I am most grateful for what he did for me. I think of him as a artist, my restorer, my personal healer. I would have done negative stars if it were allowed. My wife is dealing with breast cancer which will require a bilateral mastectomy necessitating a reconstructive breast surgeon. We are doing our chemo treatment in San Antonio and the surgeon that was going to perform the mastectomy recommended us to PRMA, since they pretty much have a monopoly on the breast reconstruction in San Antonio. We have had Humana For years and never had a problem. I called to setup an appointment with PRMA to be told they take all insurance INCLUDING MEDICAID, EXCEPT HUMANA. I asked the lady what it would be if we did private pay and she responded "between $40,000 & $500,000, can you handle that?" So I asked for a referral for a surgeon in SA and she told me there weren't any, so I asked about outside SA, she gave me the name of someone in Fort Worth. We have decided to have the mastectomy and reconstruction in Austin, we have found several highly qualified breast reconstruction specialists that are caring and helpful and actually act like they are interested in the patient. The long and short of it, I wouldnt use PRMA if they were going to do this for free. Their name should be PRIMA DONNA. Ladies, if you need reconstruction, go to Austin and be treated like a human. read more

I am so fortunate to have had PRMA right in my back yard in San Antonio. I knew nothing about breast reconstruction surgery when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013. Stunned by my diagnosis after my yearly mammogram, then further blindsided with finding breast cancer in both breasts the very next week, I was referred to Dr Chrysopoulo at PRMA by my breast surgeon, Dr Brittany Deberry. I am so thankful that she sent me to the best! I knew I was in good hands after I met with Dr C, and he did a beautiful job making me whole again with an immediate DIEP flap after my bilateral mastectomy.
