Someone recommended Alan, but my experience has not gone well. First the first 6 months things went ok. I basically just emailed receipts every week. Ultimately he just stopped responding. I tried for 3 weeks to set up a phone call and not only would he not make time for my call, he simply ignored my emails. When I went to find a more reliable book keeper, he would not even answer my question about what accounting software my records were in. I do realize I have little experience in this area, and he wasn't making much money off of me. I think perhaps he's new at this, maybe just out of college or something and isn't quite sure how to provide good customer service. But until he figures it out, I'd stay far away.

Huge Rant to Alan Jones CPA. Run for your lives from using him…read more I have reached out to Alan no less than 8 times to make things right. I received a $250 check from him to cover Federal Underpayment Penalties. Not even close to covering the costs of using him, paying my new accountant to fix all of his errors and penalties to the State of Missouri for his gross negligence. Here is what he has done to my business and family: -sent in our business and personal taxes unsigned to 2 states and Federal without our permission, which is against the law. I told him I wanted to wait until April to send them in as he had done our taxes wrong all year long and we had to figure out how to come up with the large amount owed from his negligence. -He told us he set my business up as an S Corp with Missouri for 2018 and he didn't. This cost us immensely in late payment penalties as they had actually wanted me to pay monthly and there is no forgiveness. I now have to pay my new accountant to put together monthly statements that he should have done for all of 2018. If we would have been set up as an S Corp payments would indeed have been sent in on time. - not putting in that we had health insurance on our Missouri filing when we presented him with evidence of it. If my new accountant hadn't caught it we would have paid an extra $500. Cost me $150 for her to amend our Missouri filing. - gross negligence in having us underpay the state of Kansas, State of Missouri and Federal in our quarterly payments. (Of course we now know the state of Missouri wanted monthly payments and would have know if he would have filed for me to be an S Corp with them when he said he did) I told him my income every month and trusted what he said to put aside as he is a professional CPA. He has literally cost me thousands of dollars and I've lost track of how many hours I've spent cleaning up his messes. I have tried to be kind and patient with reaching out to him at least 8 times to make things right. When looking for an accountant AVOID Alan Jones CPA.

I had a very concerning experience with Kendra at The Casual Bookkeeper last year when I went in…read morefor a scheduled tax appointment. I arrived a few minutes early and she was still with another client. I politely asked if I could use the restroom before our meeting, and she told me I would need to go to Casey's down the street to use theirs. I did as she asked and returned for my appointment. When I came back, she suddenly became extremely upset and went into a several-minute rant directed at me about the bathroom situation. During this outburst she was yelling, cursing, and saying that when she flushes her toilet "stuff flies out of the sink." The interaction was very uncomfortable and unprofessional, especially considering I was simply there as a paying client for a tax appointment. The situation escalated to the point that I recorded the exchange because of how unexpected and intense the reaction was. Afterward, I spoke with the person who originally referred me to her years ago, and they told me they had stopped using her services previously after experiencing a similar type of breakdown. I understand that everyone can have stressful days, but this interaction made me uncomfortable and concerned about the professionalism of the business. Because taxes involve sensitive financial information, clients deserve a calm and professional environment. For that reason, I would personally recommend looking elsewhere for bookkeeping or tax preparation services.
