Starry Fields Farm has incredible potential to be the wedding venue of your dreams, the only limitation being how much time and effort you want to spend preparing the venue for your big day! With the right staging, tables, and chairs the venue is an absolute showstopper at an affordable cost for nearly anyone's budget. This location provides the boho photoshoot most photographers only dream about, and this proved true during our wedding as we had taken breathtaking photos! This was the most beautiful day of my life, but it wasn't without a tremendous amount of work, stress, and last-minute changes. Before booking your big day here, please read ahead and be sure you know what you may encounter so you are more prepared than my husband and I was.
For context on why we chose this venue, many of our guests were from varying states across America, so having them experience the natural beauty of Kentucky became my theme. I wanted to share my love for KY bluegrass and the beautiful landscape. This farmhouse/ greenhouse is surrounded by natural 40-acre farmland with lush woodland. It showcases a beautiful wildflower meadow just in front of the charming greenhouse, and adorable lambs and goats behind. This location also featured a stunning on-site cottage, great for getting ready for both bride and groom. Genuinely I can't think of a better staging location in KY for an amazing photoshoot. Unfortunately, all the positives of this venue come at a cost, a cost that is not tangible.
The time needed to prepare our venue with not only decorations but cleaning as well take away from the invaluable moments we had with our friends and family from out of town. The decorations of course are something that we had prepared for, especially since we had opted out of hiring a decorator or planner. However, the real cost of time came when we arrived the day before our wedding and the venue was not cleaned to our expectations. We expected dust, pollen, a few bugs, and maybe even a little dirt on the floor as this was at the end of the day a greenhouse. We did not expect to arrive at the greenhouse with half functional lights, wasp nests, spider webs, an ant infestation on a couple of the farmhouse tables, and windows you could not clearly see through from many months of dust. The tables were much more rustic and weathered than I anticipated, so much so that we had to go out and purchase padding to place under the wobbly tables for stabilization. Neither we nor our guests were anticipating a squeaky clean, white, and bright venue in this type of setting. On the other side of the fence, we were also not expecting to have to spend our extra paid time the day before our wedding dragging in the very heavy tables through the weeds from a shed 30 yards away, cleaning windows, getting rid of infestations, and worst of all involving most of our guests in the process due to the amount of time it took. We also had to pursue new chairs a week prior to the event because the rustic wooden chairs we were promised turned into mostly plastic chairs and a mixture of different styles of wooden chairs. This would not have even been discovered had we not made the trip back down prior to the week of the event just to check everything and see what we needed to add.
All these issues were masked by the customer service or lack thereof from the hosts. We spoke to one of them prior to them leaving the location for the remainder of the day, we were assured we could take all the time we needed to prepare everything. My husband did call to voice our concerns about the state of the venue, concerns we had spoken with the hosts about on different occasions since we had booked last year. Despite being met with hostility and no resolve, we decided nothing would ruin our big day and continued to have more and more guests come help. Fast forward to late that evening and the hosts arrived back on-site; we expected resolve due to the circumstances when they pulled up to see us still working hard, instead, we were met with hostility and threatened to be charged with additional hours. We pushed back because we were told only hours ago to "stay as long as we needed." They also accused us of trying to scam them out of the money that had been paid for additional hours as well as the rental fees for the infested tables. We were labeled as liars, and told that "this is what boho is, what did you expect?" They didn't even believe us about the lights not working, we had to make them come in and view where the lights were not working and show them, we were having to hang new lights that we had to go out and purchase. Keep in mind we have our entire bridal party here during this time witnessing the entire interaction. The conversation became heated enough that we requested a partial refund and decided we would just cut our losses and have our wedding at the large Airbnb we had rented for guests to stay. It was not until then they became apologetic and started looking for so read more
