The task was enormous - at least to me it certainly had sounded overwhelming. But Dr. G's incredible patience and thoughtfulness, and the respectful manner in which he explains everything - treating you as a partner rather than simply a patient - made me choose him over two other doctors I had been considering. And I am so happy I did! Today, after many months or our collaboration I am in a very different place: medically, aesthetically, and emotionally. What's also very important to me is that Dr. Gerskowitz looks at the patient and his/her health in a integral way, which so rare at our time of infinite specialization. He is a real master. His approach is careful and intelligent, and what they call "bedside manner" is superb: once you are in his office, you immediately feel at ease. Dr. Gerskowitz is simply the best dentist I've seen in my life and one of the very best doctors of any specialization I've encountered. I just wish I found him earlier. The staff is equally great - I use this office now for my general dental maintenance and checkups. Everyone is knowledgeable and friendly. I normally go to the River Edge office, but have been to the Wayne location, too. Dr. G.'s practice is the place I recommend to my friends and family - that says it all. The young lady dentist assigned to me was very inexperienced. She extracted the molar by chipping and hacking away where she eventually removed the molar in pieces. I ended swallowing bits of the molar. In that visit, since I had insurance , this place did anything and everything to max out as much as they could from my insurance. I was told that 25% of the bill had to be paid upfront, which was $588. That night I bled quite a bit and had tremendous discomfort. The next day my face was swollen and I had a slight fever and realized something wasn't right. I When to another Dentist to get to the bottom of why I was bleeding so much and had this puffiness and why I had all this discomfort. Was told that the reason I bled so much was because the stitching done at this Avant garde place was because it was done on one side of the gum and that the stitching should've have been done in a cross road method as opposed to one side of the gum and the grafting to cover the hole in the gum area was not there. Was also told that I also had an infection as well and was given a prescription. I ended Spending an additional $750 to correct this mess done at Avant garde. To add insult to injury, no pun intended, Avant garde wanted another$1,590. I left skid marks at Avant garde. As mentioned, it was a horrible experience. Stay away...

I have teeth sensitivity so use prescription toothpaste. Ran out of toothpaste so called the office on Monday and left a voicemail for a refill. Nothing happened till Thu, so called the office again at 9 AM talked to the receptionist was told I will get a callback. Didn't get a call till 4:40 PM so went to the office in person to get the prescription. Was told that the doctor is busy back to back and that I'm not the only person waiting. They will let me know when the doctor is available and if they will issue a refill. We are talking about Fluoride Toothpaste here not opioids! They called close to 5 PM saying as a one-time courtesy they will refill. However, going forward I will have to make a checkup appointment with the doctor only after that they will give me a toothpaste refill. So essentially, I need to see the doctor every month. This is in addition to my routine 6 month visits where they confirmed 2 months ago that my Oral health is just fine. Never had this experience with any other dentist.

I went for an appointment a few years ago as a young adult and I feel they took advantage of my lack of knowledge of dental work and how dental insurance worked. I'm writing a review now because this experience still bothers me even now, and after I've learned more about how normal dentist offices are run the issues here are more apparent. I would stay away.

I would not come back here again…read more My kid had an endodontic surgery and silver crown on one of child molar about 6 months ago with the pediatric dentist. The other day, a huge inflammation was seen right below the silver crown. Noticing something was wrong, we visited another pediatric dentist. The new dentist took the x-ray and recommended that we take the tooth out because the silver crown was not sitting properly and likely had cavities inside. One the surgery was done, we noticed that the spacing between the crown and the teeth was so large that the food would get stuck, unable to be brushed, and leaving room for new cavities, not to mention that the old endodontic surgery was done improperly and developed further cavities (leading to inflammation). My kid is only 5 years old and was supposed to use the tooth for another 3-4 years before the adult tooth would come out. According to the new pediatric dentist we visited, it's likely that the old dentist didn't grind away the molar enough to put smaller crown to save time, but rather used bigger silver crown to save 10-15 minutes! Come dental dentists are always running against time and will never treat patients right. They look at patients as nothing but money. No doctor ethics. I hope other parents would not have to go through what we went through.

Upon a follow up visit to the Dr and for those of you horsing why would you go back to the same Dr well we were $38,000 into it so we had to finish this with this Dr the doctor then proceeded to drop the same exact instrument down her throat again now the doctor claims she has never in all her ears drop this instrument down anybody's throat, but yet managed to do it to my daughter twice my daughter already had issues with Dentist, hence needing such extensive dental care the Dr solution to this was not to send her to the hospital this time just go home and pass it on your own. I'm sure you will with no regard for the fact that by doing that if she had aspirated that instrument into her lungs, it could've killed her, but because she didn't want it on record that it happened twice we just sent her home. now in speaking with the doctor and trying to work this out amicably and come to some type of reconciliation the doctors solution to that was and is, oh I can take care of her bottom teeth for you for $35,000 more is she kidding, in what world would I ever do that? However within an hour of making the appointment received a call to confirm. I spoke quickly, as I too am in healthcare and don't answer the phone while at work. I shared my email asked for patient forms to be sent. That way I could arrive at 9am. Not earlier to complete the forms. My app was for 9am the following Saturday . Wednesday I even emailed them my prior dental X-rays. Thought that was confirmation enough I was coming. Throughout the week I received 9 phone calls and text messages as reminders. On my way to the offices they called again. I printed out the paperwork had it completed and on a clipboard as I walked in at 8:59am. There were 4 staff members there no one else in the waiting room no other cars in the parking lot. The first thing I heard was 'your late'. What a warm welcome. It was wet, rainy and as a type 1 diabetic i do my to be prepared. I was on time! But wow no hello or welcome. I was about to hand over my completd forms when I mentioned the overwhelming calls were a bit aggressive. The office manager, Maureen response was so many people are no shows. My response was TY for respecting me and putting me in with others. I was sure those others also emailed their reports, X-rays and verbally confirmed at least 3 out of the 9 times I was contacted. At that point I decided to leave. They lost a family because of aggressive patient treatment. I'm sitting in the parking lot already booked another appointment for 2 hours from now. Not one other patient or car has come into the lot. Don't think it's the Dentist.

I have terrible teeth and choose to have cleanings every 4 months. Ann Marie has been my hygienist for many years. She is friendly and meticulous...2 very important qualities. The only thing that might throw you off is that she's a lefty, so you have to turn your head to the left side.
