This is my second year coming to the Southern-Fried Gaming Expo (SFGE). That is always hosted at…read morethe Marriott Renaissance Waverly in downtown Atlanta in July. They have well over 300 arcade games, most are retro games that if you grew up in the '80s and '90s you are going to absolutely love it. They have a few really old pinball machines, some probably dating from the 60s and 70s and they have several new ones too. This year they had a bunch of old vintage computers (Commodore 64 Texas Instruments TI-99, etc..) in one of the rooms (Vintage Computer Festival Southeast Room) networked together so that kids could play the original doom. I love this event as it is a great way for kids to learn about past games and understand how some games work. If you love tabletop games too, they have lots of different tournaments, guest speakers, and panel sessions. They have dozens of vendors that sell parts, custom gaming machines, new board games and so much more. This weekend is their 9th anniversary. My family loves it here. Usually, the best day to go is on Friday or Saturday as they are open to midnight. Hangout here 6-8 hours goes by really fast. If you are a gaming junkie, tech nerd, new or old, this is a place for you!!! [Review #661] (16th Review of 2022)

I would certainly recommend this place if you want to introduce your child to gymnastics and dance…read more The teachers are all fairly young and work really well with the children which was a relief. Our daughter is 4 year old and we wanted her to experience a new sport. We tried soccer at the Y and that was a disaster, the coaches not at all understanding or helpful. We signed her up for the dance and gymnastics. The dance alternates between tap and ballet each week and it was easy getting her dance clothes and shoes. It started turning into a "show" at home which put a smile on all of us! The second half was gymnastics and they split the group up interest two, working in different areas of the gym. They emphasize fun and playfulness and then slide in a gymnastics move without them knowing. They each got a stamp at the end of the class and a drawing of a letter to take home. A job well done for sure. I was so relieved that we've found something she enjoys and is motivated to participate. I think any parent would want the same for their child.

The kids had SO much fun! The coordinators went above and beyond, setting up our stuff, interacting with the kids and all around just being super nice! The location is perfect and convenient. Its a big enough place but does not feel too big as many gymnastic places sometimes do. The price point was super reasonable and some of the girls liked it so much that the moms ended up enrolling them in a class. Overall a wonderful experience for all!

That said, we actually had a great time. My grandson enjoyed pushing buttons and pointing at things. I'm not exactly sure what he was saying, but he smiled the whole time. Nobody else was in there when we arrived. As we were leaving, a couple of more families were arriving. The only thing that I would advise is that apparently, you are not supposed to allow your kids on the engines. We didn't see the sign until we took our photo opportunity. They might want to put a sign on both sides of the engines. Otherwise, a great time was had by all.

The last guy actually had me in tears laughing. He was great!! The 3 that weren't funny was more than just not funny they told jokes that I didn't think were appropriate for the audience and stuff that I personally don't think should be made into jokes. Suicide is not a laughing matter. Especially having people in the audience that it has effected in such a life altering way.. I just don't think that should ever be a joke. Religious jokes can be funny to a small degree but the lady from last night took it too far and it was very distasteful. There are sooo many things you can joke about but those are categories imo you should just stay away from. I go to the comedy catch in Tennessee and I die laughing Every time I am there. I love to laugh and have a good time. I don't know if the comedians from last night (that were not funny) were regulars or not but I hope not. I'd like to come back.

For being a place for creative oulets, you'd think they'd pick a more creative name than....The Art…read morePlace. But honestly I don't blame them. I think this place has been around since forever, right behind the Mountain View Library. They offer painting, sketching, clay, theatre, and music classes; I tend to find that it's more theatrics than actual drawing classes offered. I've stayed away from acting and music, but they have productions and dinner&shows every season for the public to go to, at $5-$15 per show. The classes are great- but it really depends on your class, really. I've only taken painting, portraiture, and clay, and clay was the worst of them all. Enjoyable? Yes. Would I do it again? No. I don't even remember the instructor's name. My only quip is that for each class, the fees never seem to end. Registration (late or early), actual class fees, baking fees, and oh, the -supplies-! The supplies list never ends, I swear. For pencil portraiture, I thought you bring a pencil and eraser, and a pad. False, it's like 20 different types of pencils, graphite, special erasers left and right, specially bound pads, tissue paper, paper stubs, special ink pens and tips, and oh my god, these things cost a fortune! I just want to draw! Ahem, anyway, the painting guy was ok, but the star of the show is Kip Rogers- after all these years (it's been like 10), I still remember how well he taught his classes and I want to go back, even if this place is about a solid 45 minute drive from where I live now. His class is 95 for first timers and 70 for returners. At that price, it's a freaking steal! (Well, at least for that class....) The Art Place is a special place to me- back when I still drew all over the place, I had been able to be part of some of the shows there, and I appreciated that. You could always walk in and see art from the locals. After all these years, the many of the artists teaching there are still there. Now on to convincing the boyfriend to take these classes with me....
