(I've been to MANY) Chuck Day is friendly and enthusiastic about all kinds of art. It is a strictly custom shop, with original works of art covering the walls instead of ugly, outdated flash. My fiance and I (coincidentally) purchased gift-certificates for eachother from 9Dot and when we came in to make an appointment, Chuck offered to come in on his day off to tattoo us. I don't think he does that regularly, but we were getting large pieces and he was sympathetic to our need to get done quickly, as we were moving soon. My fiance had a giant piece done on his calf, and I had Chuck tattoo a huge eagle on my throat. He works quickly, even though he takes breaks about every 45 minutes or so. I don't mind taking breaks, but my fiance was in a lot of pain, so he wanted to get through it as fast as possible. (Wuss!) Overall, 9 Dot is a fantastic shop. VERY CLEAN, with a focus on art. They have lots of art and magazines to look at while you wait for your appointment, and a funky mix of hiphop, soul, with a smidge of hardcore music fills the large open space. If I still lived in Iowa, I would not have to find another shop or artist ever again. I seriously can't gush enough! Thanks Chuck! You did a splendid job!

(I attempted discussion about the photo and got an "I can do it".) I expressed my intent that it represented joy, and that I wanted to be reminded of joy and optimism when I looked at it. This tattoo covers the entire forearm. Concerns: Excessive shading and overall darkness, heavy outline, facial expression, lack of detail, overall loss of concept and spirit. It is not dainty nor feminine like the original drawing. Photo taken approx 2 months post procedure. Proceed at your own desire.

He took a great deal of time to measure and drew out on each brow where they SHOULD have actually been placed the first time before starting. He offers two sessions for the quoted price. The second session being for any changes you as a client want to have tweaked. I am extremely happy with the color and shape! I am CONFIDENT this time they WILL last! Some of the artists there are great (and MUCH more talented than him), but I sincerely hope they find a new shop that actually welcomes their talents. I was tattooed there a while back by an artist I really liked and trusted. She just recently parted ways with the shop along with another incredibly talented artist, and I'm 99% they were fired. All I know is this: they have more talent in their left pinkies than James K has in his entire body. Please, whatever you do, do NOT support this man.
