It is so interesting how the "face" has been changed with the addition of a building directly in front of the church entry. Climb the Old Town Hall Towers for a better view. Note: There are limited hours for entry. Check the schedule, we were lucky to enter 5 minutes before they closed midday.

Despite visiting years ago, it took living here for a month for me to learn its name or explore inside. It wasn't until one of my new friends invited me along for a classical music performance that I became acquainted with it. I heard that it's a rarity to be able to attend a concert in the church, but I also heard the opposite, so I'm not actually sure. Either way, if you have the extra funds and want to experience some local, albeit touristy, culture, be sure to book through Via Musica. The ticket cost me around $38 (935 crowns...NOT cheap!!) but I think it was worth it for a one-time visit. I spent most of the 65-minute concert mesmerized by the church itself. Faces everywhere. Gold everywhere. Intricate designs. Unreal beauty. It was such an amazing experience! It was also cold. Keep in mind it's a very old church. Even though it's indoors, it's not like they have central heating so you'll still feel the elements. Dress appropriately! And be sure to arrive early for a good seat. If you're visiting Prague, don't miss a trip inside this church. Classical concert or not!

I originally thought you could just walk in and take pictures, but the security guard let me know tickets were required. They were only a few dollars and included a 30-minute guided tour. It looks like they also offer night tours, but I went on a Saturday at 5:00 PM, which worked out perfectly. The tour guide was super informative and walked us through the building while explaining how the paternoster elevator works. I was able to take lots of pictures and videos, which was great because it's such a unique experience. There's nothing like this in the States, so it was really cool to see something so different. Quick and interesting

Yelp Review 2023 #88:…read more What's so exciting about a city hall? Basically nothing. But this particular city hall has the Elevator of Death! Paternoster lifts have injured and killed people including children. It's an elevator operated by chains that don't stop moving. Only 5 countries have paternoster elevators. To hop on and off, you have to time it correctly and make sure you don't have something big/ bulky/ heavy with you that could get you stuck. If you miss your floor, you have to wait until it loops around again. Once you enter the city hall, there's a path on the left and the right. In the middle is a set of doors with stairs to take you to the next floor - don't go through here. You have to go around the back of the building to find the paternoster elevator. Keep in mind, people work here so, get out of the way and keep your voice down. It's not just some tourist attraction. Or else, they'll shut it down for tourists. Would you dare get on the elevator?

We had multiple servers who were so attentive. In addition, there was a pianist on an acoustic piano playing nice music (NOT an electric keyboard w/boom chicka booms). I started with their soup of the day-cauliflower. The picture doesn't do it justice. We each ordered the filet mignon which came with roasted potatoes and a salad. The meat portion was huge and there were plenty of potatoes. To finish I had a crème brûlée, my favorite dessert. It did not disappoint. Overall, it was a lovely dinner and then after we went upstairs to a string concert. A great night.

I got the mini pancake with the berry jam and a cappuccino. The jam on the pancake was tangy and sour and sweet, which elevated the dish. The server that served us was good, but we went around 8:30, and there were only 4 other customers sitting down. We didn't see a server at first or a hostess, so we tried to ask someone that's behind the entrance making coffee if we can just sit down. Let me tell you that she was so rude, as in she didn't even acknowledge our existence and totally stared and turned her head away. For an establishment in the middle of a tourist center open during breakfast hour, maybe have a cup or two of coffee so you don't become so rude. A few days in Prague, and by far, this was the rudest encounter. Everywhere else, they were super nice.

"Želivsky preached at Church of Our Lady of the Snows (Panny Marie Sněžné). He was one of a few Utraquist priests in Prague at the time and he was strongly influential, owing to his sermons which were noted both for their eloquence and their apocalyptic descriptions. On 30 July 1419, Želivsky led the Hussite procession through the streets of Prague, and past the New Town Hall. "The priest and his followers were, however, received with derision by the town-councillors, who appears at the windows, and stones were thrown at the procession. One of the stones struck Priest John [Želivsky]... and the infuriated people immediately attempted to storm the town hall." "This event ended in the First Defenestration of Prague, which was one of the major triggering events for the Hussite Wars. "For a time during the Second Anti-Hussite Crusade, he held almost ultimate authority over the lower classes in Prague. "After his defeat in the Battle of Brüx in 1421, Želivský was removed from command. On 9 March 1422, during the civil wars between the various Hussite factions, he was arrested by the town council of Prague and decapitated. If you're not familiar with the term "defenestration," it is when people are executed - they are thrown out high windows. The judge, the burgomaster and several members of the town council were killed. It led to the Hussite Wars (1419-1434). [Review 12264 overall, 2048 of 2019.]
