I also thought it would be good to have an "in" just in case. Unfortunately, my experience didn't go well. To be honest, I have a fear of going to doctors and avoid it as much as possible. I arrived early for my appointment as instructed. The staff at the front desk were courteous and professional. About 10 minutes before my scheduled time a nurse escorted me to the room and took my vitals. When she was done, she said the doctor would be in shortly. 35 minutes later - no doctor. The room was cold, my fingers were numb, and I had to get back to work so I walked over to the front desk and told them I was leaving. The next day I received a call asking me if I wanted to reschedule. I said no because I was afraid the doctor would be a no show again and I would find another doctor. Later that day I received another call asking me the same thing, and I gave the same answer. This time the scheduler told me there were two other doctors in the network at the same location and she could book me an appointment with one of them. Unfortunately, the soonest appointment isn't until the end of July but she said she would also put me on the wait list. I appreciate that she went the extra mile to help me. As soon as it happened, I called the office before my appointment time to explain the situation and let them know I would definitely be there by 1:30 PM. The front desk staff told me that if I was more than 15 minutes late, my appointment would be canceled--no exceptions. Luckily, I managed to get there at 1:15 PM after dealing with the tire emergency. During the phone call, I explained that I'm pregnant and that my doctor is very concerned about me receiving my medication on schedule. Delaying or rescheduling my infusion could affect the effectiveness of my treatment and potentially trigger a serious flare-up during my pregnancy. Despite explaining the medical urgency and the emergency I was facing, the front desk staff still insisted that because the next day was a holiday, the schedule was completely full. I understand that offices have policies and busy schedules, but this was a genuine emergency--not someone simply showing up late without notice. My infusion appointment lasts about two hours, and I believed there could have been some flexibility or willingness to work with me. Instead, I felt like I was being treated as an inconvenience rather than a patient with a legitimate medical need. I also want to point out that many of the patients receiving treatment here are undergoing chemotherapy or other infusion therapies. These patients often need extra accommodation, understanding, and compassion. It was heartbreaking to experience such a rigid and unsympathetic attitude during a genuine emergency. One of the nurses suggested that I simply switch my future appointments to Mondays. I was honestly shocked by that response. My issue wasn't about which day my appointments were scheduled--it was about how I was treated when I encountered an unavoidable emergency. Rather than showing empathy, the response felt dismissive. I've been coming to this office for infusions every two months, so I'm very familiar with how the clinic operates. During this visit, I spent about two hours in the infusion center, and it was not unusually busy. The patient volume appeared normal. I also observed staff chatting about their vacation plans and working at a relaxed pace. Based on what I experienced, it was difficult to understand why there was absolutely no flexibility for a patient dealing with an unexpected medical and transportation emergency. Healthcare is about more than following policies--it's about caring for people. Policies are important, but they should never replace compassion, especially for patients receiving infusion therapy, cancer treatment, or those who are pregnant and rely on time-sensitive medications. I went from doctor to doctor and and never got answers, most of the time they told me I was 'imagining' things or just 'depressed' and brushed me off because 'I was too young to be having these problems.' I was finally lead to Dr. Shirazi and flew to California to meet with her. Dr. Shirazi listened to my concerns, she ran tests and researched my complaints and got back to me with a clear diagnosis. I ended up needing surgery and of course I choose Dr. Shirazi to do the procedure. The surgery was a success! : ) Dr. Shirazi eased my concerns by answering all of my questions prior to surgery. She demonstrated excellent bedside manner and regularly checked on me after the surgery. Dr. Shirazi is extremely intelligent and has excellent credentials, but what really sets her apart from other doctors is her kind heart. Just went here a week ago. Saw Dr. Chung who performed a procedure involving my bladder. I've had a horrific "recovery" and have tried to contact him and the office several times. I've messaged through the patient portal, called the nurse triage line, left messages- no one has gotten back to me. I would NEVER trust this facility or its doctors to perform any medical procedures on you or your loved ones. I fear I have permanent damage and I will call every day until they finally give me the time of day. The fact I have to call every day and no one gets back to me is infuriating.

Went to City of Hope for treatment of stage 4 melanoma just over a year ago. I had a bad reaction…read moreto the imunotherapy medication, specifically Yervoy, which landed me in the hospital. I've since been informed how dangerous Yervoy can be. Another highly respected oncologist told us it is known a patient killer. My oncologist Dr. Xing was unavailable the entire time I was admitted due to the holidays, even though initially my wife and I were told she would always be available. Her nurse Deanna was rude and dismissive throughout my time there. Dr Xing never made an appearance, or made any attempt to contact us during my hospitalization. The attending doctors were treating my reaction to imunotherapy drugs with pain medication that sent me to the edge of liver failure. A simple google search of the side effects of these pain meds revealed that they were all toxic to the liver which was where the melanoma was. We had to demand they stop all the pain medication they were administering, against their advice of course. Once we made that decision I began a recovery over a few days & my liver enzyme numbers came back to a more normal level. At that point we decided to go to another institution because Dr Xing was going to start me again on the same protocol that almost killed me. A year later I'm doing much better, thanks to the care at UCLA. The tumor is shrinking under a different protocol. Please think twice before you choose Dr. Xing at city of Hope. I would not have survived had I stayed as a patient of hers & would have been just another statistic. I'm sure the "official" cause of death would have been the cancer, (which is now much better) and not the mismanagement of my symptoms of the imunotherapy treatment. If I could give a ZERO rating I would.
