Went in with a very obscure description of a broken vacuum and the gentleman that help was very knowledgeable had it diagnosed in less than 10 minutes. Had to take it back a second time because our vacuum is old, and I would say never serviced (it was second hand) again very knowledgeable and got the problem solved in less than 10 minutes and the fact that it cost significantly less than I anticipated was a plus. Can I just say how much I love these guys? Normally I deal with one of the stores in Portland but I'm now going to use the one in Vancouver forever. I brought in an ancient Dyson that needed a part that's no longer even available. Well truth be told it is available it's just back ordered into a coma. They did some more research and discovered they had one in their back store room. It just happened to be there and now my Dyson is as good as new. That may be an exaggeration - it's sort of like putting new tires on a very old car. They had three people helping me - all of them were super nice and very helpful and very friendly. I never imagined doing a review for a vacuum store, but here I am doing it. A year ago, my wife and I decided a third Dyson may not be the best choice. We bought a Miele and it was OK, but the bags fill up fast with pets in the home. So, Don showed us the built-in central vac system and we decided to go for it. Let me just say that it is the best purchase for the home we made in a long time. The suction is amazing, no noise, no smells, the unit sits on the wall in the garage. We have a 60 ft hose that pulls out of the wall and when you are finished is sucks itself back in with no effort. You can buy vacuums every five years or do this once and enjoy life. It's light and easy to maneuver. Honestly, my wife is happy to vacuum now and we even have a connector in the garage and a second hose that we use to do our cars and garage. My shampoo vacuum stopped working & I took it to Starks to get fixed & they gave me a quote from $80-$100 which was fine. I told them to just do whatever they needed to do. It took about 2 weeks which was also fine but when I went to get it, they said they contacted the manufacturer for me & had it all covered by the warranty. If I could give it 6 stars I would. My Kenmore upright lost power to the wheels and roller brush. I took a look at it but couldn't figure it out. Didn't seem to be a belt problem. Took it in to Starks and he figured out it was an electrical connection in the handle and fixed it for no charge because it didn't take too long. How rare is that these days? Wow, that's what makes small businesses so special. If you need a vacuum repaired, this is the place. They also have locations in the Portland metro area. They carry a nice selection of Miele canisters as well as Miele accessories. They have in home vacuum systems also which are currently on sale and very reasonably priced. Busy or not you should at least respond to your customers. Contacted 3 times, ordered on June 21, shipped on June 27. Tracking stopped on July 4th. I always want to support local business, and in the past, Starks had been wonderful to work with. I brought a vacuum there a few years ago that was having problems and the guy working there fixed it really quick, it was something simple, and gave it back, no charge. I was really grateful; that made me want to continue doing business with them. I was surprised when I went in a few days ago with my 5 year old Dyson (it had sucked up a plastic cap and I couldn't get it out) and the tall, older man working there kept talking about how loud my vacuum was, acting like it was a piece of crap. He said it would be $89 just to look at it, another $100 for some part, another $30 for some worn out piece, etc. etc... BUT he could sell me a new vacuum for $299. So I took it home, had a friend look at it. He popped out the offending plastic piece in a couple of minutes. This experience was a one star, however, considering my prior experience with the company I decided to rate them slightly higher. In my 70 years I have never purchased a more difficult product to use, and they had nothing to offer when I went back to them about it. They didn't manufacturer it, but if they are experts in vacuums they should have known better than to sell this Bissell model. I took our Dyson in to be cleaned after we shipped it, and now it's tone when vacuuming is much higher. I'm not able to determine what strength the suction is, if it has decreased at all, but I'm not finding the same level as before. There's no way for me to test it either, except the pitch is definitely higher. read more

What more can I say, I LOVE the people at Starks. Okay I'll say more. Very helpful and knowledgeable employees always giving me the best deal possible. They usually fix my machines on the spot. Took my (well used) Bissell carpet cleaner in that was beyond repair and came out with an excellent reconditioned Hoover carpet cleaner for $90 that I love even more. They gave me $10 off for leaving the Bissell there. The Starks brand carpet cleaning concentrate is the best that money can buy. This is the second time I have used Stark's to repair a vacuum of mine and I am again very happy with the service! I don't know the name of the gentleman that helped me, but he was wonderful! He greeted me right when I walked in and took my vacuum and asked what was wrong. I explained it was making a loud noise and he said oh it is probably the belt! He took it apart and replaced the belt and it worked like a charm again. He even gave me a useful tip on the carpet setting. The total cost was about 10 bucks! Went in for warranty repair on our Miele Canister Vac. Barry and the rest of the team went above and beyond what I would have expected for the type of repair my vac needed. Originally telling me the part would take three days to get in they figured out another way to fix it and did so right in front of me. I went in with a broken vac and came out with it fixed. The Vacuum on my Motor went out and I took it to Starks after reading their positive reviews. They helped me with my Warranty when they could have very easily sold me a new one. They insisted i take a replacement vacuum while I waited for mine to be repaired. I don't know his name, but the salesman, actually took a part off of a unit that was in the store to fix our hose because he didn't have the part in stock!!! Recently bought the "yellow" Simplicity USA made vacuum cleaner. It is powerful and glides easily over carpets. The Starks salesperson demonstrated the vacuum in the showroom. I wasn't disappointed when I turned it on at home. I'm a guy who likes the right tool for the right job. I actually enjoy vacuuming now as the Simplicity runs like a well-made tool. Its design is ergonomic and the cord is so long that I can practically do my 2300 sq. foot house by plugging the cord in at a central outlet. The suction wand tubing is long and flexible and integral to the vacuum and it takes only a second to switch from the wand back to the carpet/floor mode. I recommend this machine at Stark's. read more
