I have been wanting to do this for a long time and jumped at the opportunity before me. After filling out a health screening sheet and personal information, 4 cotton swabs were placed inside my (mouth) cheeks and swiped-2 on each side. That was all there was to it-very quick and painless. My mother once was very ill with cancer and looked into getting a bone marrow transplant to increase her healthy white blood cells since cancer treatment had decimated her immune system. At that time, it was unheard of to do a bone marrow transplant for the kind of cancer she had but we went to UCLA and tried. Now it seems that cord blood, stem cells and bone marrow have life-giving and healing properties that we continue to discover every day. The "Be The Match" Registry is operated by the National Marrow Donor Program and gives hope to patients with life-threatening diseases. Bone marrow transplants help people with leukemia, lymphoma and many other diseases. First, patients undergo chemotherapy and sometimes radiation to destroy their diseased marrow. A donor's healthy blood-forming cells are then given directly into the patient's bloodstream, where they can begin to function and multiply. For a patient's body to accept these healthy cells, the patient needs a donor who is a close match. Seventy percent of patients do not have a donor in their family and depend on the Be The Match Registry to find an unrelated bone marrow donor or umbilical cord blood. Certain ethnic groups are underrepresented in the marrow donor pool so the needs are never-ending for more donor sign-ups. If you are interested, the first step to become a bone marrow donor is to join the Be The Match Registry. Doctors around the world search that registry to find a match for their patients. If a doctor selects you as a match for a patient, you may be asked to donate bone marrow or cells from circulating blood (called PBSC donation). Patients need donors between the ages of 18 and 60 who meet health guidelines and are willing to donate to anyone. If you are selected, it is imperative that the Donor Program have correct contact information for you, as sometimes these procedures are a timely matter of life-and-death. Being Born and raised in St Paul I am shocked I had no idea this non profit existed and was pleased to stumble upon it online while looking for places to donate. I love the concept of being able to have a dignified shopping experience for those in need hence why I chose JC to donate to. But I am disheartened by the reviews I am reading from folks in the community as I am biracial myself and have a biracial family. I truly hope that a Christian based non profit is not discriminating against people of color or mistreating those that are in need. I encourage you to listen to those expressing their experiences and concerns and for JC to do better moving forward.

Everyone deserves some time away to shop for the things they need or better yet, the things they want, for themselves or their friends or family. Please give to this organization and drop in to see what they are all about. A store that operates for free for people to "buy" what they need and feel human, when so many people make them feel second class...this is a model many other organizations should adopt.

It's sad to hear that the Saint Paul location on Dayton avenue is closed down I went there…read moreapproximately 33 years ago I know that's quite a long time but they were so incredibly helpful and compassionate during a very troublesome and stressful time in my life I was having severe mental health issues and since my boyfriend's parents lived directly across the street I went there in midst of a psychotic crisis they treated me with complete respect and were not condescending at all they were so empathetic and one of the staff members even took the time to drive me the hospital to be checked in for a psych eval they went above and beyond even though they're now at a different location I hope that they are still doing incredible work.

They have been seen AND HEARD by caring, knowledgeable, professional people who are taking the time to educate and help them deal with extremely personal sexualty issues. I do not know all the technical terms but I CAN tell you that after a 17 year battle with many other less sensitive healthcare professionals my child is now becoming happier, more confident, and a mentally healthier individual. My child's patner is also seen here because she has an extreme reaction to needles. Family Tree is the only resource (after 7 other facilities) to supply the accommodation necessary for her anxiety control so a blood draw could be accomplished. The clinic has gone beyond any normal standard of care. Lastly, when visiting, I appreciate the calm attitudes, the unique waiting room, and the educational materials available. It is a SAFE PLACE for all.

We worked a special shift via Surly Gives a Damn, sorting hangers. But they do take groups of 5 or more to do projects such as putting furniture together, sorting utensils and linen and more. There's always work to be done. Shifts are 2-3 hrs long. The work was very chill. You got to pick what you wanted to do as well as they were very accommodating for example if you needed to sit while working or needed to take breaks. Diana was running things and she was such a great host! Made us feel welcomed & made sure to tell us about all the opportunities they have to volunteer and give back. She also offered tours of the warehouse after the shift was over. She said she's always looking for new volunteers, so if you are looking for opportunities, please check them out!!! They have 3 locations- Bloomington, Roseville & Plymouth-opening very soon.

I have not used any of their services but instead have been the beneficiary of attending several conferences hosted by the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits in this beautiful building. All meetings I've attended here have been held in their auditorium which has a large drop down projection screen with floor to ceiling windows in one half of the room that looks out onto a lovely courtyard. The room is well mic'd for sound and the most recent setup of the room was classroom for 64, with plenty of open space for more room for tables and chairs. They have a covered garage for parking which is a nice bonus.

The only negative I have with them is how they handle their invoicing. They are the only therapy provider that we've ever dealt with (and we've used many over the years) that does not provide date of service detail, nor an indication of whether they've billed insurance and if so how much the insurance covered on their invoice. The problem with this is that if you have an HSA, as we do, then you are actually supposed to keep that detail on hand in case you are audited. What this means is I have to go back and ask them for the detail every time they bill us. Other Dr.s offices give these details automatically. Wilder has at times.
