When my husband passed away, we had planned on sending him to NEOMED, but he had a catheter implanted in his side, so they could not take him. At that point I started to panic! I just searched the internet for help. I reached cremation services and they were on it right away! The paperwork was all on the internet, the customer service was fast and Dan Madden tolerated my ten thousand emails without getting frustrated with me. I have no idea on prices at all, so I honestly didn't even 'shop around'. I am a first time widow with no plan B in place, but all these services including death records and a veteran's flag came in under 1k. Thank you Dan and company for just being amazing! read more

History

Established in 1920.

Stark Memorial was founded by O.G. Stark in 1921. He operated the business until he died in 1948. Mrs. Stark continued in her husband's absence, and in 1950 brought in two partners Jack Harroff and James Griffin. Russell C. Loudon began his funeral service career as an apprentice in 1947 at Stark Memorial. He went on to mortuary school at Cincinnati College of Embalming. He returned as a licensed funeral director and embalmer in 1950. In 1956 Jack Harroff retired, followed by James Griffin in 1978. Russell C. Loudon purchased both their interests upon retirement. After over 60 years of dedicated service to families in Salem and surrounding communities Russell retired and Daniel P. Madden purchased Stark Memorial.

Meet the Business Owner: Daniel M.

Daniel P. Madden, CFSP has been in the funeral industry for 18 years. Having spent many years working primarily at Becker Funeral Homes in the Greater Youngstown area, Dan always had the desire to own his own funeral home. In 2016 the opportunity came up to acquire Stark Memorial, Inc, in Salem, OH. Russell C. Loudon provided the people of Salem and surrounding communities with premier service for over 60 years and Dan is honored to carry on his legacy.

I have been blessed to have only been to a few funerals in my life but this was the first person that I really knew and had family ties to. I was actually really impressed with this Funeral home and the professional appearance of the family that ran it. I am pretty sure they knew my Grandparents and went to church with them. I am guessing that the building was a converted house from a long time ago as it felt more like a home than a business and you were there for an event rather than something sad. Everyone was very courteous and helpful even as we carted around our 3 kids. I in my own way have a great respect for this business and what they are able to do. It's funny that a place like this with its finality and ending would make you realize more clearly that life is so short and a beautiful precious gift, don't waste it, make it count.

All three men that came out were more than professional, kind and knowledgeable. They were honest and did not charge me for anything that didn't need done. The water pressure ended up being nothing to have to do anything with. The two men that came for the outside tried to jet the drain we thought was a French drain. They found out it was not and didn't even charge for that service. They also provided names for possible people to install one that is needed.
