Cork & Bean Oshawa chose to call the police on a peaceful, paying customer for wearing pro-Israel…read moresymbols and having a calm conversation. Let that sink in. My friend -- a Christian, not even Jewish -- was meeting with a pastor for coffee. He was wearing an IDF jacket and a Star of David necklace while discussing a recent trip to Israel. No shouting. No confrontation. No disruption. Just coffee and conversation. An employee called Durham Regional Police. Officers showed up and told him his conversation was "offensive." When asked what was said that violated policy, no one could answer. No rule cited. No clear complaint identified. Just vague discomfort -- and removal. So what exactly triggered this escalation? Not behavior. Not threats. Not harassment. Symbols. And Israel. Calling the police on someone because others don't like what he's wearing or the country he's discussing is cowardly and discriminatory. Businesses don't get to selectively silence viewpoints they don't agree with. And weaponizing law enforcement to remove someone over perceived "offense" is an outrageous abuse of discretion. If Cork & Bean believes visible support for Israel warrants police involvement, they should say that publicly. If they don't, then they owe an immediate explanation and apology. Until management addresses this directly and transparently, this establishment does not deserve community support. Do better.

I've been here twice - once in the summer and once recently in November…read more I got two gelatos in the summer and I thought the price was reasonable (I think it was around $3 for one). It came in a container with a lid so you can easily take it to go and there was quite a lot of gelato too (I couldn't finish it). If I remember correctly, they make the gelato themselves. I have an addiction to pumpkin spice lattes so when I saw their sign outside saying that they sell it, I had to try it. I think I prefer Second Cup or Starbucks' pumpkin spice latte over Isabella's but it's not bad here. This is a cute little place to catch up with a friend or to relax with a cup of coffee. They sell a variety of snacks that I'll definitely be trying!

To top all of the warm fuzzy feels when you enter, the food and drinks are just amazing. They are certainly on the pricier end of cafes - so this is an important consideration. But I personally find they use quality and fresh ingredients. My family loves their pastries (both sweet and savoury). I tried their salted white matcha, which was so delicious. I'm a die hard fan of their strawberry cups and tiramisu. Honestly, some of the best tiramisu out there. So happy they opened another location because the Oshawa one can get quite busy. Was great to see a larger cafe doing so well as a small business.

They make their coffee with Balzac beans and while I love Balzac's, I found the latte underwhelming and expensive. It was just not pulled properly. The smoothie was pretty good. The restaurant is split into two main areas: high table booths and a more open space with the usual tables & chairs. I would recommend seating in the latter area because there seemed to be more light. Food-wise, the portions were generous and scrumptious! The salmon bowl was creamy, zesty, packed with crunch. The Italian sandwich was fantastic as well, with a generous layer of mayo on ciabatta covering layers of cured meats, cheese, arugula, & roasted red peppers. Of course, we couldn't leave without getting caffeinated ;) Service was friendly from the get-go, but our food did take a long time to come out due to backed up takeout orders.
