Orders for both drinks and pastries were taken at the cashier. They handed over the pastry and then we just waited for the bar to prep our coffee. Just like the Brunetti Oro visit from two years ago, this location had a problem with piles of used dishes left behind. We had to clear our own table just so we could have some space to eat. Not sure why this was a common problem at two locations. Overall flat white was as expected and the escargot was sweet with hints of chocolate.

Well, yeah, the coffee actually isn't too bad, though I certainly wouldn't consider it to be one of the best places out there. In a way it is mainly for people to grab a coffee as they shoot off to board a plane. In a way it works, though it certainly isn't the best coffee about, but they still do a pretty good job, as expected.

Yes, even Vue du Monde who say they close at 1am on their website were closed well before that - to say I was livid was an understatement. Anyway, Macchinetta was open and I was very happy. They had a big selection of fresh foods like sandwiches, rolls, wraps but I went for an arancini. To be honest I really couldn't understand the guy serving as he kept mumbling but he seemed to say the arancini was beef flavoured which sounded good. I also got a glass of fizz (I was really happy, ok) and grabbed a seat. As this was the only place open it was pretty popular but the arancini only took about 5 minutes and was served with a side salad. Sadly, it was horrible. Bland but salty at the same time. No discernable flavour, some cheese in there but that still didn't give it any flavour. It was pretty unpleasant to eat. I suffered through it though because I was starving and I know you can't rely on getting delicious food on any flight. Graeme's wrap was better and next time I would stick to something a bit more standard if I was eating here again. So even though the food was bad, they still won my heart over by being open. If flights are going to be departing at 3.30am, Melbourne Airport should really make sure there's some food options for them at that time of night.

And so it was one stormy morning that my five year old daughter and I found ourselves stranded at Broady Shopping Centre, both of us just as scared as each other by the claps of thunder we could hear. And then I noticed a sign that said pancakes, and I was taken back to a time where my mummy's pancakes cured the anxiety caused by the evil storm. I can't cook like my mum, so I made the best of a bad situation and excitedly told my girl we were going to have a 'girls brunch' and went about ordering us both a serve of pancakes with golden syrup, ice cream and strawberries. (Geez, makes me feel like going back there right now!) Our girly brunch came really fast and the service was so pleasant. The servings of pancakes were HUGE! Three massive pancakes with huge dollops of ice cream and strawberries; I'm not too sure if the staff knew it was comfort food or not, but it certainly felt like as if we were being taken care of! For $7.00 a plate, I honestly can't believe how scrumptious these were, and they did the trick - my daughter and I enjoyed our pancakes and special mummy-daughter time so much we forgot all about that evil storm.
