Big unexpected bonus? They have a drive through. It seems like an odd thing to glorify for a coffee shop that focuses on quality--but this was really a big plus for me at the time. I had a colicky baby in the car and the idea of getting him out of a car seat and back into it again made me not want to leave the house all that often. Being able to drive up to grab some delicious (non-Starbucks) coffee that reminded me of the good old days in Austin was such a huge mood booster. The moon milk sells itself. It's super sweet, so if you don't want it to be too sweet, I usually ask for 1/8 moon (1/4 is on the menu, and it's still too much for me). I do wish it was in a more convenient location. It definitely feels suburban and like it's just in a random strip, but I'm also not all that familiar with in Kenosha. Hooray for Summermoon in WI. Now I have a reason to make a pit stop on my way to Chicago.

Looking it up online I discovered it contains oat milk, which a good percentage of celiacs, including me, cross react to. The moon milk is a "proprietary blend" they say has no allergens, but oats, rye, and barley are not considered allergens, but are not tolerated by celiacs. No way to know what their secret ingredients are. My fault for not asking The in store menu did not indicate this had oat milk. I assumed it was just milk.

They've since expanded to numerous locations across the U.S. and even overseas. Their mascot is Ollie the Duck, who can be found on the sign and packaging. I learned a few things on my first visit. All the donuts are cake style donuts (as opposed to raised/yeast, which I tend to prefer) and they're made to order. The made to order is a pro and a con as you don't have to stress that they will sell out, but you might have to wait a bit for your order. Both peanut butter and cookies & cream are two of my favorite dessert flavors, as this donut includes both, it was a must try (especially because it was a seasonal offering). It comes drenched in peanut butter icing with OREO cookie pieces and a hot fudge drizzle. The body of the donut was heavy, dense, and pleasantly chewing with just the right amount of moistness and not too dry and cakey. Flavor was a sweet peanut butter, with plenty of chocolate. Unfortunately, I didn't detect much of the cream aspect from the OREO's because the peanut butter and chocolate were so strong. Texturally, the OREOs added a welcoming crunch though. The vintage items were a bit on the pricey end so I did not end up buying anything. The drinks (matcha latte and mocha) were both great and tasty. We sat at the front of the store on some comfy couches and watched the Kenosha race going on. It's a beautiful spot to hang out and enjoy a great drink. We also got the ricotta toast with honey drizzle. A tasty treat and nice portion. I do wish there was a bit more ricotta to balance the thickness of the bread, but still great! Will definitely be back!
