Step back in time with some coffee, tea, or grub at Mobjack. Don't even tell anyone you're headed there (you can post after)! The secrecy will make YOUR experience that much better! A fulfilling and romantic-minded life is what you make it! Or, if you're not up to a solo stop, maybe combine coffee with friends and a walk and talk around the serene surrounding grounds? This is also a perfect remote work location if they're not busy. Regardless, the Mobjack staff is always so friendly! It was a quiet hour during my last visit (when I shot the attached pics and vid). The staff at the counter is always so patient with all of my food inquiries and coffee requests... even when they're busy! Last visit, I had the Mobjack Reuben Panini... I wasn't expecting such food quality for a coffee spot! Also, one of the kitchen staff stopped by my table to answer questions I'd asked him about the building and Mobjack. We had a nice chat, which I appreciated since he was headed out after his shift. Beautiful spot. Mobjack also provides their employees with a generous and quality portion of the cafe/house quartered off just for their use. That is nice to see.

I have been a loyal Starbucks since 2005, and enjoy a Venti Iced Shaken Espresso (formerly Starbucks DoubleShot on Ice) near daily since the drink came on the menu in about 2006, and I've never had trouble ordering, only occasionally having to politely ask the barista to put forgotten cream or classic syrup in the beverage. Since the Hayes location has opened, visiting this location has been nothing but trouble. The shots always taste a little more bitter and burnt from this location. And it's very rare that I am given classic syrup in my drink, despite gentle and subtle reminders at the drive thru. "Ice shaken espresso with cream. Keep the two percent and the classic" is the exact phrase I use, to be clear. I've always chocked the errors up to it just being a new location with a younger staff, and it's reasonable to expect that it's simply a learning curve, and improvement will come with time, so I wasn't deterred, despite consistently having to park my car to go inside or running through the drive thru again to ask for missing classic syrup. Despite this being a regular occurance on my weekends, I have never treated anyone behind the counter rudely, or with disrespect. I have never spoken to a manager, nor have I created an online account to complain. Until today. Events are as followed: Today, around 9:30 or so, My husband and I did our usual Saturday Starbucks run and I ordered my usual drink, the Venti Iced Shaken Espresso, with a splash of cream, 2% and classic. Upon receipt of my beverage, I parked the car and took a sip. Despite having the drink made to my preference, the espresso itself was unbearably bitter and burned tasting. I let my husband try it to make sure I wasn't being picky or petty, so he took a small sip and scrunched his face in disgust, as if he just swallowed a war crime. I decided to go inside and have it remedied. I walked into the store and stood at the takeaway bar and I felt like a ghost, as nobody acknowledged me. In my head I shrugged and decided to stand in front of the register instead, hoping for better results. A petite woman with wiry strawberry blond hair who appeared to be in her mid 60s finally acknowledged me and asked what the problem was. I told her about how the shots tasted burned, and that I couldnt drink it that way, and then asked if they could re-make it. Instead of apologizing and fixing it immediately without question, she responded coldly and curtly, "Well, you're the only one who has complained about. Nobody else has." And then when I re-iterated that it was undrinkable, she replied in a condescending tone, "Well, the drink has 5 shots of espresso, it's going to be bitter." When I didn't turn tail and leave, she finally spoke in a hushed tone to one of the other baristas about re-making my drink. Then she said that she was going to make it on another machine but "didn't think that was going to make much of a difference." I received my new drink, which tasted bland, creamy and watered down, and still undrinkable, but on the opposite end of the spectrum undrinkable. Like coffee flavored creamer. I drove the 13 miles to the other end of the county, Gloucester Courthouse to get a new drink. This new location fixed it and made me a new one despite that drink not being made at that store. And it tasted exactly as it should have. Moreover, the barista at the Gloucester Courthouse location basically shook her head and smiled and told me that this is a common thing for people to go to the Courthouse location and have their drinks from Hayes remade. I am writing this to tell you why I will not be back to the Hayes location, and hopefully regional or district management can provide additional training to this store. Specifically, I suspect the espresso machines are not cleaned out as often as they should be, and the woman whom I've interacted with has no business at Starbucks, as her brand of customer service is one I would expect from the Post Office or the DMV, or even from Nurse Ratchet, she was so rude. Thank you for your time and attention regarding this matter. I will be copying and pasting this to other outlets, as a courtesy, because this location is wholly not representative of the service I have gotten at other stores, and urgently needs attention. Yours truly, Sam

My son and I went in and ordered 4 small ice creams in cups. Unfortunately I didn't know until she had already served it up that they don't have lids for the small containers. There is no sign and the employee didn't bother to tell me even though two people were ordering four ice creams. You would think that she would have realized that a couple of them were going to be traveling and mentioned. Or you would think that the owner would spring for the $.12 it would cost to give me a lid but I guess that's cutting into the $2.50 per scoop price tag when you buy a small. Honestly I would have been ok with the price if the product would have been packaged with some forethought for their customers. The employee did at least offer up a cup holder but the ice cream didn't fit into it so the first corner I hit I had a scoop of chocolate in my front seat. The employee should have offered up a larger container and a lid because apparently they can afford lids for the other sizes. when I asked if they had run out of lids they said no we offer lids for this size. All and all I am not impressed. I looked like they serve some sort of sandwiches or something and since this place is ten minutes from my house I would love to say I will edit my review once I try the food but I am so irritated by the lid thing that I wont be going back. As a message too all business owners out there, you have 1 shot to impress or completely turn off potential customers. Don't lose money over something as simple as a Lid I will say the employee was polite, although she didn't really speak. They had a bunch of options for toppings but I have no idea if they were included because there was no attempt to offer me anything other than exactly what I ordered. Another message to business owners, up sells make up for a large portion of income for many businesses so when your employees fail to do so you lose money. I don't expect a hard sell but a "Have you been here before?" and "Well since this is your first time here are your options" or "Would you like any toppings on that, they are $.50 each" and accept a simple no without pushing would be nice. At least then I know how the business operates and what my options are without having to give the employee the third degree. Anyway, save your money and buy your ice cream elsewhere.

Situated right under the York River bridge, not far from the Yorktown museum, is the cutest village. I'm sorry, they can't claim it as part of the original Yorktown but it is cute. There is a lovely river walk...hence the name of the restaurant. They have some of the BEST views in the area being right there. We had reservations however it being the busiest day for restaurants, we had to chill our heels for a few moments before being taken back. I was more than ok with this as we ended up getting a window seat (see above for reference). Thank heavens they put the name of the server in the receipt cuz y'all know my Swiss cheese brain. Cara was the wonderful server who took care of us. She was always there ready for me to get my mum good & spoiled. Super friendly and very helpful. The buffet, it was impressive for a buffet and while not a big buffet, it was specialized. First up were 3 different kinds of salads, then a fruit platter, and bagels & cream cheese. They had a raw bar with shrimp & oysters next, then breakfast stuff (eggs, potatoes bacon etc) mac & cheese, garlic mashed taters & then a carving station with turkey, ham & lamb. Finally a small but respectful dessert table. If you couldn't find something to fill you, you weren't looking. The single sour note of the buffet was the salmon and Mac & cheese. I'll know better next time. Overall the River Walk has come back with perfect timing and style. I highly recommend a visit. Parking is a pain but patience will help

When I found out they were having a set menu for Vday I called the week of and we were able to switch our reservations to Friday February 13th. I downloaded the InKiND app as well and they gave me a $50 off discount if you spend minimum $150. The open table app did have a $20 per person fee for reservations and that will be applied to the final bill. Our reservations were at 4pm and we arrived early and the parking area is ample with a parking garage and some street parking. We started walking to the restaurant at about 355pm. This time of the year seems to slower with ot being cold. Once inside we were greeted by the young ladies up front. We were offered a table or booth and we chose a table. We did sit at a table with the view of the water which was nice. Jason our server came over within seconds to pour us water and take our drink orders. We both wanted sweet tea with lemon. Since we knew ahead of time what we were ordering, we gave our appetizers orderes first. We ordered the soup of the day which was the she crab soup. It is highly recommended. We only ordered a cup and not a bowl because we were unsure of how it tasted. The Caesar salad had no anchovie flavor like we are use to and was just medicore. We ordered the meatballs which had lamb and pork in it. They were juicy, tender and just needed a little more seasoning. The Calamari was fried to perfection for me and could've used a pinch of salt. The sweet tea was everything and I would recommend it. For the main entrees, we chose the shrimp and scallop risotto and the beef braised Ragau. There were two scallops and four grilled shrimp and few asparagus with some chopped up bacon. This dish I highly recommend as well. The beef was tender, seasoned and pasta was cooked perfect. Overall, this is a nice and quiet place to dine at anytime. I would recommend and will definitely return again. Jason was on point with his promptness.
