Relish Cafe - Cute and clean interior

Relish Cafe

A cheerful café at Southgate (3.5/5 green stars) The Relish…read morecafé at the Highlanes Gallery used to be a regular lunch spot in Drogheda (it has changed hands but the new Highlanes café, Five Good Things, is also good). I recently tried the Relish café at the Southgate Shopping Center to have coffee and do some work. I made the faux pas of ordering at the counter instead of first sitting at a table but the lady at the counter suppressed the lecture I think she wanted to give me and instead took my order. I chose a high top table near the door so I wouldn't feel like a weirdo with my laptop among the retirees with their afternoon coffees. My oat flat white was okay and the pear almond tart was nicely presented with dots of coulis around the side. The tart had a slightly rubbery texture - I think a microwave was used for reheating - it was still okay but could have been better. I ordered a second coffee - a decaf Americano, and I'm not sure what happened but it was one of the worst coffees I've ever had. I guess something went wrong there but it wouldn't put me off trying Relish Southgate again. In the past I've found their savory food to be quite good. I'm also giving Relish 3.5/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact. * They have a reasonable number of vegetarian/vegan items on the menu but could do with a few more. * For meat-eaters, all of the meat is Irish. * They use free-range eggs. * They say that they use "fresh and seasonal ingredients from local suppliers" but could be a bit more forthcoming with details. I wrote to them for more info but didn't hear back. * For a few items they do name their sources. For example, Hegarty's cheddar, made in Cork using milk from their own small farm and vegetarian rennet. * In 2017 I had reviewed Relish at the Highlanes Gallery and scored it 4/5 green Stars. It would have been nice to see some improvements since then - more veggie dishes, more info on sourcing of ingredients, coffee, etc. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, contact me!

Vegetarian café with great food and ambiance (4.5/5 Green Stars)…read more We stopped here en route to Carlingford on a friend's recommendation and all three of us were very happy we did. The place is lovely - the café is filled with light and plants and the surroundings are beautiful. Mum is a picky eater but she relished the mushroom quiche and finished the entire piece even though it was huge! (Seriously - about three times the size of portions elsewhere.) My brother loved his herbed rice bowl and I liked the organic porridge with fruit and the pistachio plum cake. The only kink was that several items arrived much later than the food - the coffees, bread, and honey for my porridge (I had already finished my porridge by then). The store is filled with great stuff - fresh fruit and veg, and a good selection of some of the most ethical products. Weirdly, the Strandfield website contains no info other than an address, so you have to rely on reviews to get info in advance. The lunch menu is mostly comprised of sourdough pizza, salads (including a quinoa bowl and herbed rice bowl), and sandwiches - see menu photo. There are also lots of bakery items, including freshly baked scones, cakes and wheaten bread (which was really good - I bought one to take home). I'm giving Strandfield café 4.5 out of 5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, for these reasons: · I didn't actually notice at the time but the menu is 100% vegetarian! · Strandfield uses free range eggs from their own farm. · My porridge was made with organic oats · Flowers and plants in the café come from Stranfield's own nursery · The grocer sources local and organic fruits and vegetables along free range eggs, and organic health foods · The store stocks a really good selection of ethical goods - I could do most of my shopping here if I lived here. · Strandfield would benefit from providing more info (on the website or menu) on ingredient sourcing.

I really liked this place, very neat, cosy with an elegant interior like a proper tea room. Different food choices but we came for tea and dessert. So we end up having different types of green tea and moon cake and it was very delicious. I would highly recommend this cafe, its quite, great for relaxing and enjoying a pot of tea or meeting up with friends.

Other patrons will come in and get menus and unless I actively flag someone (usually only one person on the floor) down, I never get served. On my third time, I thought I'd wait to see how long it took. Over an hour went by (while I was using my laptop and their wifi) and still no one came to me. Finally my friend stopped by and just ordered at the till. It's a cute place and good working spot but I won't be coming back. Again, hate to make this a race issue but as the only non-Asian, non-white person in there (every time)and then to be ignored consistently on multiple occasions is upsetting. It's really easy: serve good food and be mildly attentive to your customers. Won't be recommending this place until something changes. Update: approached the staff member and confirmed only one member of staff working and while I empathize, just saying "Sorry" without any meaning behind it , isn't good enough.

I knew I wanted to…read moreget a tattoo while in Ireland and this place had really good reviews, so I looked at their artists. Ash had work that spoke to me the most so I sent her a message on Instagram asking for her pricing and describing what I wanted. She got back to me quickly and we got something on the books for when I was free during my trip. You pay a €50 deposit when you book and the rest has to be paid in cash after your session is done. When I arrived they checked me in and Ash came and got me a few minutes later. She let my friend come back with me for moral support and to help me answer questions. Ash showed me the sketches she did based off of my request and we made a couple of tiny edits so it was exactly how I wanted. She then printed a few size options out so I could figure out how big I wanted it to be, then she printed out the stencil. Once I got in the chair Ash was very gentle and walked me through everything, answering all of my questions. The tattoo itself hardly hurt at all. I'm someone who has chronic pain so I'm used to being in pain all the time, so that could explain why the tattoo pain didn't bother me at all. I just chatted with Ash and my friend the whole time and was totally fine. The tattoo itself took about an hour and a half to complete. Once we were done, Ash put on some Second Skin and walked me through the aftercare. She gave me a few sheets of Second Skin to take with me so I could make sure my tattoo was protected while I wandered around Dublin for the next few days. She answered all of my questions and I left feeling confident in my ability to take care of my new tattoo. I'm now three days into the healing process and it's doing great! The first night was brutal and I was kept up by the pain most of the night but after that it was much more manageable. I have it uncovered now and am moisturizing it whenever it gets dry or tight feeling. I can't wait for it to be fully healed in a few weeks! I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here and would definitely go back again if circumstances allowed. If you're looking for a fantastic tattoo parlor, this is your place!
