I want to start off by saying I work in customer service and have worked at coffee shops so I really try not to complain. I try to be fair and understand people have bad days, and things happen, but this was abysmal. Employee training needs to be redone. My bf and I arrive for red cup day, put in our orders, and sit down to wait. The first thing I noticed was that there was 6-7 employees but almost none of them had a sense of urgency even though it was 8am, and people had places to go. Saw many customers who arrive after us receive their drinks before us but we stay patient, tried to trust the process, and tried not to bother them until about 20 mins in. At this point my SO has used the bathroom, gotten a McDonald's order for himself, and drank a soda. I ask the person at the register where my drink was in the process. That I might need to just take my receipt and come back later because my SO is going to be late for work if we keep waiting. I see some shuffling of some tickets and then I'm told someone is on it right now and asks me to wait 2-3 mins. At this point, I'm guessing she's telling me that getting a receipt and coming back later isn't an option or would take longer so I go back guessing I really don't have a choice. My SO has to leave without his coffee, and leave me to find alternative means of transportation. Now 30 mins into the wait I finally get mine. I wait five more, then ask where his is. They tell me the order doesn't even exist. They must've seen me calling my boyfriend who at this point is pissed off, out $10 bucks, and late work, because suddenly here's his order.... in a glass. I ask why and she said it was ordered that way. I can confirm it wasn't. I was right next to him ordering with him. I'm not sure why someone would decide for a customer that their coffee was "for here" at 8am when most people are going to work but...alright I guess? Decided the poor decision on their end wasn't my biggest problem as I was stranded and needed to figure out how to get home as I don't have money for an uber. Asked them to dump it in a plastic cup (ruining the cold foam but if I don't, then I don't get his coffee AND he's out $10). During this time the older woman who was helping me with this seems frustrated. I couldn't tell if it was with her coworkers (which would be entirely valid and I get that. But the energy seemed to be directed at me as if I was the problem....like I didn't come 38/40 mins early for only 2 cups of coffee while the store was not full enough for there to be THIS MANY issues.) At this point I pocket the tip I was going to give, tell my roommates who were going to come later to get their red cups that it wasn't worth the situation, and that we'd spend a little extra on ingredients and have holiday drinks every morning at home for a fraction of the price. The whole store needs retraining. Starting with: 1. Any sense of urgency during morning hours 2. Flow and coordination amongst employees to prevent repeated mistakes. 3. Attitude when there had been not just one but multiple screw ups causing what should be a $5 event turn into $40+ No I don't want offers or discounts while the same staff is working there as they are now. I was at Starbucks 601 5th St SW Charlottesville,VA around 6:15pm June 14th. As soon as I walked in with my small mini daushund a young heavy set woman with glasses said very rudely that "if that's not a service dog you can't come in" . Now mind you I am staying at the hotel next door and have been in there 3 times in the last 2 days with my puppy and never had an issue. It was more about the nasty approach. A fine Starbucks. I've gone to this Starbucks for over 7 years, and I'm impressed with their new space. It's certainly bigger, but the updates they made just make the place... shine? The drive-thru was a must, and I'm sure that's the main reason for the shift in location. I've never been a fan of the codes on the bathrooms, but it's not a dealbreaker. It's a Starbucks. You pretty much know what you're getting by visiting one. I recommend you support local places, but I can't not recommend a Starbucks with so much going for it. So, ya know, go. read more

Late evening coffee run. Even at nearly 8pm, they were still quite busy with folks working on laptops and socializing. My mom said that her soy milk latte was good and the foam was strong. Condiments/fixing area needed some tidying and the bin was very full. This location does not have a drive through. read more

This Starbucks has the worst customer service of any I have been to. I walked in and the manager was having a conversation with a staff member cleaning the toaster oven. I was the only person at the counter and they continued to talk even after seeing me. The manager finally walked up to take my order and didn't acknowledge that I had been standing there for a while watching them talk. Five minutes after I sat down, the manager informed me that he was closing early because of a staffing issue with no apology. I moved to the patio to work and a customer who had a mobile order walked up when a staff member was walking out. The customer asked the staff member about it and she said she was "off the clock" and has "nothing to do with that place when I'm off the clock." DJ was the only staff member who was nice and actually tried to help people. Thoroughly awful experience. read more

This is the only Starbucks in Charlottesville that has consistently given me extremely weak coffee. I'm honestly baffled by this because I would imagine they have a well known amount they brew. In the last three months I've had to ask for a different roast ten times. Today I got a venti blonde roast and I could see the bottom of the cup when I popped the lid off. I took it up and asked for a different roast.....same problem!!! Two stars reflects the coffee, not the service. Staff is always great! Hopefully this gets fixed soon. I will avoid this location for awhile. read more

The fact that they say my name when my order is ready and act like they actually know me makes me smile, I love the people that work here I hope they get paid good because their customer service skills are amazing . Lol should I add that I absolutely hate coffee but still find myself coming here just to feel the vibe that the staff gives off. Keep it up. read more

Two stars because I was the first person here this morning (dropped off a family member at CHO for an early flight)-- and the bathroom was really dirty. It smelled of pee, with suspicious drops on the floor around the toilet. No excuse for a disgusting bathroom first thing in the morning. read more

The service at this Starbucks was really friendly, at least on the day I went, so there might have just been especially cheery/talkative folks working. But they were nice and I appreciated that, and maybe it is the service culture of the store all the time! Hope so! The reason I give three stars is the lay out and the seating. I think I would give eVen the best Starbucks only 4 stars, so the problematic set up at this location is enough to drop it down to 3. There are no soft seats, so even though It wasn't crowded and we were planning to enjoy our coffees while sitting in, there was nowhere comfortable to sit, all hard wooden chairs, so we didn't linger as long as we would have otherwise. I don't go to Starbucks to sit in very often, but I won't be revisiting this one, because most times that I choose to go out for a coffee it's mostly for the experience (I can brew good beans at home for cheaper), and a hard seat with no cozy nooks just isn't my cup of tea. read more

The baristas at this Sbux are unbeatable. I haven't been in town more than a month and already know me by name and they know my order. It's really nice to be welcomed by a warm face and a genuine "how are you?" when you walk in. The drinks are always consistent. Keep up the awesome work! read more

I have been to this location several times, and the service is always awesome! Last time I stopped in, the barista put a smilie face next to my name on the cup, which made me smile. :) This particular location is always super crowded. If you are looking for a coffee shop to do work in, this Starbucks may not be it. It can be hard to get a table, and there are always people meeting to socialize here, so it is on the louder side. They do have some outdoor seating for the warmer months. read more

This is the closest coffee shop to my office, so I tend to frequent it quite a bit. I wanted to give the store a fair trial, particularly given my preference for local coffee shops over national chains. After a year of three-to-four visits per week, I feel I can fairly assess the level of ineptitude you will find within. First off, there is only ever one barista making drinks. It doesn't matter if there are twenty cups lined up to be made and twenty more people in line, none of the three to four other people working will jump on the other machine to make up time. Sometimes, the (I assume) manager will start taking orders, but this only serves to increase the back-log. When the manager finishes with the line, she returns to counting change, checking things off of some list, or vanishes into the back. Be prepared to be snapped at if this particular manager is in a mood. After frequenting the store for months, she yelled at my coworker, because he was trying to use a coupon that wasn't valid in this area. Literally yelled. The other employees do much the same, and will even start chatting with the employee on the register about non-work related items, while the line continues to back up. Long story short, be prepared to wait, and try to bite your tongue as the barista on the machine tries desperately to get drinks out (while performing side jobs, like making whip and refilling cream containers), while receiving absolutely zero support from the rest of the staff. read more

Seating area is pretty small and the pastry case was basically empty (good and bad thing?) but my iced coffee was yummy and the wi-fi is nice. I prefer the one in the mall but it's nice to have options! read more

They closes at 9:30pm, but start cleaning up around 8:30 while customers are relaxing and enjoying their time there. Their kitchen is already partially closed 1hour before their close time, so you can order only limited items from menu. I wish they do closing after their business hour is over. read more

I am from out of town and this Starbucks location is not what I'm used to. The wait was fine, etc. but the product was inferior. I ordered a blonde roast, they were out, I asked for the medium, they were out. So she gave me decaf. Instead. When I went to put creamer in my coffee there was coffee grounds floating on the top. By the time I finished my drink there was quite a few coffee grounds. It was also in a warming container dispenser rather than fresh brewed, it definitely wasn't up to par. I never heard of a coffee shop being out of coffee! read more

Got a soy drink, and they made it wrong... Used milk instead. I get soy so as not to contribute to the dairy and veal industry. But right in front of my eyes they dumped the drink out. So wasteful to throw milk away like its nothing when lives were destroyed because of it. I love Starbucks soy options but I'm sure this wastefulness happens multiple times an hour, and its shameful.
