This Starbuck inside the Francis Marion hotel was super convenient, fast, and the staff was super friendly. That's more than you would expect from a hotel lobby chain coffee shop. It also wasn't overly busy any time I went which is odd for a Starbucks. Maybe that's why I liked it. I stopped into this Starbucks to grab a spinach feta wrap and an iced coffee while I was waiting for Warby Parker to open. Unlike most other locations around town that provide lots of seating, often comfortable, this location apparently wants the customers in and out, quickly. There's just a handful of window seats. If you don't mind standing and eating, you'll find it satisfactory. If you need to use the restroom, you'll have to go down a long flight of stairs. read more

This is a very nice Starbucks! Located right off of King Street and Calhoun next to the Francis Marion Hotel. Right in the heart of Downtown Charleston. Like most Starbucks, this location can get super busy at times. But they do offer order ahead so you can get in and out. The staff are super friendly and nice. I'm not really a regular at any Starbucks location, this one's always slammed. Calhoun and King is a major intersection (for cars and pedestrians) downtown. This Starbucks gets a lot of business from Marion Square, the Francis Marion Hotel, College of Charleston, and both tourists and locals who are walking around downtown and decide they want Starbucks. With the crowds, you may have to wait, but if you have the mobile app, you can order online and pick up your order when you get there. This location has a seperate line just for mobile app orders which makes that convenient. Food and drink wise, it is on par with other Starbucks. There's a good selection of tumblers as well as grab-and-go items like protein boxes and salads, which other locations seem to run out of fairly quickly. This location has ample space and tables if you want to stay awhile and enjoy your food or beverages in the A/C! read more

This location is one of the best in Charleston as it is easy to walk to from just about anywhere on the Peninsula and across from Marion Square. I enjoy coming here and it is very quick from the time you make your order until it is ready. The service here is very friendly and it seems like the staff is happy and smiling most of the time and that makes you feel good even on a tough day. This Starbucks had by far the best customer service I have any experienced at any Starbucks. I am from Los Angeles and stayed in Charleston for a week for business. My expectation for customer service is pretty high and they surpassed it. I went to this Starbucks every morning so there way a slightly different staff each day... but everyday they welcomed me, asked about my morning, made a great drink, delivered the drink to me quickly and made sure I was happy. I also understand the value of providing corporate and management real feedback because it's often times the only way their staff is recognized for doing a great job. Well done everyone! Ps. This is a pretty good Starbucks and although their coffee is not the best it is still one of the best in the area. I like the local design and décor that is here as it is very Charleston. This is definitely the worst Starbucks I have been to. I was here in the summer to order my favorite drink and my friend's drink after a busy morning of walking. I came in and waited in a very long line. When they were finally ready to take my order, the worker had no clue what he was doing. I ordered a water, a tea, and a strawberry refresher with extra strawberries and no lemonade. I watched 4 people who ordered after me receive their food / drinks. After waiting 45 minutes, we received the water and strawberry refresher (WITHOUT any strawberries AND WITH lemonade). They wouldn't give me my tea even thought I already paid for it. Great location! But, do yourself a favor and download the app! Seriously- pro tip: this location is always packed, and you can skip the line by ordering through the app. It's so easy and you can collect stars for free drinks. It's a win-win! My most recent visit here was right before the Thanksgiving Day 5K. It was rainy and cold, so of course a ton of people were crammed into this Starbucks sipping hot drinks, getting warm, and grabbing water before the race. The line was literally out the door, but there were a few seats still available. Instead of waiting in line, I grabbed a seat at the window and ordered three coffees and a water all through the app! Call it lazy, call it genius- whatever you call it, it works! The baristas had my drinks out quick, and we were able to enjoy without waiting in the horrendous line. I love this location in particular, too. The location and size are the real winners for this Starbucks. It is a perfect location for both tourists and college students alike, as it is right next to Marion Square, upper King bars, and the College. There are currently three (Francis Marion, old bank building, and CofC library), though there used to be four (Calhoun street), and this one is my favorite! It's big enough so that a lot of people can stand inside on a cold or hot day, but it's not so big that it stops being cozy. The service is wonderful! This is an interesting Starbucks because it serves two distinct audiences. First, it is part of the Francis Marion Hotel, and serves as the coffee fix for those staying at the hotel. But it is also close to the College of Charleston, and attracts students looking for a free Wi-Fi spot to work and study with quick access to recaffeination. I stopped in there about 5PM on a Tuesday evening and nearly all of the seats were taken up by college gals getting ready for finals week. I've stated in many of my Starbucks reviews that I feel that I share the popular opinion that they overroast their beans, but deserve the 3-star A-OK rating because they are consistent across the chain and deliver when there are no better options.
