Out of the two Starbucks locations inside Mailbox Birmingham, both are franchise locations with a different pricing structure, my love for the Starbucks brand and hatred for franchise locations is something I feel to be well known and this store - located on the lower level of the Mailbox, as apart of the Malmaison hotel which is probably the slightly larger location is not only the worse of the two, but also the most expensive - how does that work?
The overall feel of this place is a little cramped at times especially when there is a queue as there is only limited seating with only one out of two doors to get in, it is quite a heavy door too - I'd have thought an automated door would look and be better here.
The average price for a beverage as with any franchise store was higher here - £0.65 higher compared to a regular store and £0.40 compared to the location upstairs in the AC by Marriott hotel (third floor of the Mailbox).
The staff didn't seem too friendly or apologetic when I was refused the chance to use my Starbucks card - most franchise locations now do allow Starbucks card use but I find some, albeit few locations mainly in hotels seem to be against it for some reason.
High prices compared to a franchise Starbucks, let alone a standard store as well as a declined overall feel of the store and staff I found to be rude - I feel this store deserves just one-star. read more
