After having my nails done in 2 different recommended salons, (one salon I gave a 2nd chance to) I decided to try Star Nails as they had many reviews to filter through and a 4 star rating. I was so pleasantly surprised! I walked in and spoke with Brian about what I'd like to have done. I made an appointment for a few days later. My pedicure was EXCELLENT! Ryan did exactly what I asked for and their pedi price is comparable and fair. He didn't rush at all which was an issue with my previous pedis since moving here. I spoke with Pat about my acrylics and she was marvelous! She understood what I wanted, we had very pleasant conversation, the job was clean and beautiful. I had an appointment and drove from Calabash to Shallote. I arrived right on time and stood at the entrance for 10 minutes before being acknowledged. There was only one woman working and one customer. Immediately upon arriving I noticed a cash only sign. I was not told this when I made my appointment but checked my cash and thankfully had what I hoped was enough for a gel manicure (no prices posted). I had considered getting a pedicure but had no more cash. When the lady doing the pedicure finally noticed I was standing there, she told me to have a seat. It was at least 10 to 15 more minutes before she was ready for me. So we are starting roughly a half hour later than my appointment. During that time I was sitting, I did notice a man coming out of the back room and going out through a back door. He also did not acknowledge me. He did come out about the time the woman was ready for me and he took the other woman who had gotten a pedicure for a manicure. When the woman started with me, she is the grinder tool to go over all of my nails, and then she brushed the gel over what was left, including my white tips. I always have a French manicure. Then she proceeded to use the grinding tool to remove the white tips along with any gel she had put on top and the gel that was under the white tips. So I'm not sure what the point was of putting the gel over the white tips because now I had little or no gel on the tips of my nails. I have one finger that has been a bit disfigured from my arthritis and I repeated several times that that area was very sensitive. And that the nail was very fragile. She continued with firm movements and caused me a bit of pain. And then in grinding all of the white tip off of that finger she also left that very fragile nail unprotected. I expressed concern about it because this nail has split down the middle before when the gel was not applied appropriately. She said several times no, no when the polish is on, it will be strong, when the polish is on it will be fine. I was not happy when I left. I am not one to sit quietly, I voiced my concern. I felt very unheard - she really didn't care about how sensitive that area was and how fragile that nail was. I have never had anyone do gel this way. In less than 24 hours that nail split right down the middle, I've had to file off almost all of the white tip and wear a Band-Aid on that finger. Hopefully it will grow out enough that I can have somebody else repair it. I could not be more disappointed. I drove here because the reviews were so good. I drove past other salons because the reviews were so good. Nothing about this experience was good for me so I am not sure what the other clients are comparing it to but I do know I will never go back. Nor would I ever recommend this place to anyone. read more

This is one of the best nail salons on this side of the coast. They take their time. Many salons rush through their pedicures but not this place. Prices have gone up since pandemic and my pedicure should be at least 45 mins. This place offers a superb service unlike many. read more

We wrapped up our annual family beach trip with a girls' pedi outing and were really pleased with Star Nails. We had an appointment for 4 that started a little late but we find that anytime we have a larger group at a nail salon. The extra time and attention spent on my feet was well worth the wait! The foot massage Tina provided was incredible; better than any I've had during a pedi! One downside was the massage chair was a bit tired and not working very great. Time to find a new nail place, because Star Nails isn't it anymore. I've been loyal to them for years. I actually like Brain and Pat doing my nails, they are the only two I prefer to do them. Because I know If I can't make it in to see them in two weeks. My nails will hold up for a week or so after the two-week point. But, why take appointments when you're not going to take the time for the appointments scheduled. Made an appointment for me and my niece for 2:30 and 3:00. They didn't start on my niece's nails until after 3. A couple came in after us and they started on them right away. I can see if I didn't have an appointment and was just a walk in. This time though the girl got annoyed when I asked her to make them shorter after she had put on the acrylic, she said she had already finished squaring them off.... so she proceeded to make them shorter, threw down the nail file, and left the nails all bumpy and barely finished them off. All the while obviously complaining about me to the others. The nail polish was slopped on so thick it's insane, and the ridges and bumps really show through. Went to this salon last year and crossed it off my list. My hairdresser in OIB recommended them so I thought I would give it another try. Appointment made in advance for 9:30 am.(that is when they open) Arrived at 9:28 and all techs were taking care of customers. After 15 minutes they inform me there is a scheduling conflict and I can come back later in the day or wait 30 to 45 minutes. Sorry to say this is unacceptable. Other than waiting about 30 minutes (with only 2 other people inside) before I was even seated, this place did a great job. Finally, a nail salon I can make mine. Having moved to North Myrtle Beach two months ago, I have been trying different nail salons in hopes of finding one I would want to return to. Those that I tried around North Myrtle Beach were some of the worse. I think they are so use to vacationers that they only see once that their professionalism has also gone on vacation. So....I decided to try in Shallotte. It was definitely worth the extra travel. Star Nails is a family business where they actually take the time to do an EXCELLENT job.
