Unfortunately my schedule didn't allow me to continue training there but highly recommend it to anyone!

We get a good discount with multiple family members (family plan - pay full for two and get three free). We have a family of five with ages ranging from 8 to 50 years old. There are few places where we can all get a workout and learn about self defense as a family together. And, it has been a great bonding experience. The instructors are wonderfully supportive but also push us each to be our best. The kids are learning respect and useful skills that will help them if they are ever bullied. And good cardio workout for all. Highly recommend. Fun bonding time (with a workout) for the entire family.

The Blind Eye at the Forge…read more DO NOT EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT, this was the worst restaurant we have ever ate at in 60 years. The server did as good as a job as she could, believed she was new and very nervous. She tried her best BUT she never once came back to check on us or our quality of food. This should not have been a problem since we were her only table. There was only about 10 people eating in the restaurant when we left. The food was the worst and after telling the manager the problem she only said she was going to try the items we ate and see what could be done. The manager offered NOTHING to correct the food and just acted like we were just complaining. DO NOT EAT HERE. Another problem was the parking since they only have two handicapped parking places. This place will not be in business very long and they will no one to blame but themselves.

Avoid this place. There's a good reason why there aren't any advanced students left at the academy…read moreanymore compared to a few years ago. While the classes are great, the owner can sometimes be really unsupportive (to put it nicely) of his students and teachers/staff and occasionally berate them in front of everyone else. It often seemed like the owner would rather get rid of people or drive them away than address an issue that he played a lead role in creating. Over the years, I've seen more people turned away from capoeira than I've seen encouraged : / I also learned that rumors were spread about former students after they left, which was really upsetting. Though you might not have the same experience, if you do train here, it's probably a good idea to try not to get too close.

Good compliment of equipment. I felt neglected by the owner Carly. He had no time for me and some…read moreof the recommendations he made to me were absurd IMO. He suggested 1 meal a day and a full hour of cardio and a full hour of weight training each day for 6 days each week. This is called overtraining and low blood sugar most of the day. While I agree with his premise of a whole foods plant diet, his assertion that you can eat as much as you want as long as it's a whole plant food is simply not true. You cannot be drinking fruit smoothies and carrot juice all day, nor can you eat pounds of potatoes. He pronounces himself as an authority/expert and his ego is out of control. The fact is you can accomplish the same thing by being in a daily calorie deficit and NOT drinking your calories. Overtraining is not the answer, nor is starving yourself especially if you are older

I am pleased to be writing a review of Carly - I have found his support to be extremely valuable…read more About 10 years ago I experienced a major medical incident which brought my life as an athlete to abruptly end. I subsequently gained over 60 pounds and was unable to work out. Over the last 2 years, I began a process of reclaiming my health and was able to drop about 45 pounds mostly by cleaning up my eating, however, my weight plateaued, and I felt somewhat stuck. After conducting an internet search of area fitness studios, I came upon Zen Fitness, and followed a link at the bottom of their page to Instagram, and there began to find out about Carly. After mulling it over for about 3 months, I took the dive and sent a message to inquire about training packages. I was extremely nervous about being judged, not being able to complete the exercises, and the pressure to sign up for some packages. I knew after my first appointment that I had taken the right step. The gym is clean and is staffed by a community of great people who promote healthy eating (vegan) lifestyle. Carly does a great job at reading non-verbal cues and knows when to push a little bit more as well as knowing when to take a break. I have been in the gym for about 2 months now, he asked me if I noticed any differences and it took me a while to formulate a response. Here is what I know, a lot has changed over the last two months; I am happier, I have more energy, and my body is starting to show definition. Prior to working with the studio, I felt stuck on my journey to get my body back. Now I feel supported, encouraged, and much more highly motivated. Thanks to support from Carly I feel confident that I am moving in the right direction.
