Took my mower after it picked up an issue of the engine dying right after start up (seemingly overnight). The staff was professional and knowledgeable (albeit not the most friendly) as they diagnosed the issue when I started it up as there likely being debris in the choke. Their shop rate is $90/hr and they claimed it took 0.75 hr to fix which seems about right. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because they replaced the spark plug after I told the guy expressly that I replaced it a month ago. It's likely that they go ahead and replace the spark plug and air filter on every mower that comes in, regardless of whether they need replaced or not. Honestly, people don't bother doing the maintenance, so chances are, most mowers that come in need them; just not my spark plug. The mechanic also forgot to tighten the guard around the muffler, which the counter guy caught and tightened. read more

I bought a cub cadet snowblower from Star. They were helpful choosing the correct model.. BUT MOST IMPORTANT is the follow up service-if you need it!! You will NOT get that from a "box" store. Incredibly rude on the phone! All we did was call and politely ask about getting out lawnmower repaired and were met with incredibly rude replies from 2 different individuals who work there. I've never experienced anything like it before, and decided right away to take our business elsewhere. Just returned home from this hell hole and I still can't believe how I was treated. Yes, I know it's spring, but I wanted to have my snowblower repaired before I stow it away for the summer. Over the past fifteen years, I have witness this rude owner/salesperson berate, belittle and abuse customers time and time again, but he never waited on me. Today was my day! me: Hi, how are you? him: "We aren't doing snowblowers, it's summer..." me: How about we start with, 'hello,can I help you'? I didn't even tell you what's wrong with it. him: We don't do snowblowers now. me: What difference does it make if it's a snowblower or a lawnmower? It's the same exact engine, and I don't need it back for 6 months. There's no rush. Did I do something to piss you off because you're being awfully rude. him: "I said, we don't do lawnmowers now!" me: I'm outta here, I don't need to give you my business. him: mumble something under his breadth. This was my experience. I'm actually flabbergasted that this place is still in business. I have brought all of my equipment here for fifteen years. I'm over 60 and it wasn't that easy for me to wrestle this thing into my car, but I did. There are plenty of other places to get equipment fixed and I'll certainly find another one. This guys has major anger and personality issues. Once, several years ago, his son was home from college and working behind the counter. He was apologizing to another customer for his fathers terrible behavior. Hopefully he doesn't own a gun. read more

I cannot believe how rudely I was dismissed from this place. I had been told on the phone that I could bring in my snow blower for repair without an appointment. When I did so the following day, this lunkhead behind the counter told me they were no longer taking in blowers. They had too many to work on. I told him about the phone call and he replied that "It changed today." No apology. No offer to bring it back later. The customer service in this place is awful. read more

There is no return policy at Star Lawnmower. After being charged for repairs, the mower still doesn't work. It is 6 months old and Patrick claims that there is no return policy. This is not what I was told when I bought the mower. I have all of my conversations with Patrick documented. The US Attorney is organizing complaints about Star Lawnmower. These people (STAR in Norristown) know their business but were extremely rude and short with me as a customer. I've been a customer for 30 years. I've purchased lawn mowers, trimmers and other items and I've had my tractor serviced there. You would think they would have more business sense. Maybe they only want to do commercial work, Whenever I walk in their store they make me feel like i'm bothering them. I've also spoken to them on the phone and they were also short and rude. Bought my Ariens slowblower from Star back in 2011. This September I decided to get a little maintenance service done on it, so I called them and arranged it. They came to pick it up within a few days, they called me ahead of time twice so I knew exactly when they were coming. The guy who picked it up was very friendly and professional, as were the people I talked to on the phone. Two days later they delivered it in perfect, almost-like-new condition. My lawn tractor needed repair and when I called to have it towed and repaired, they scheduled an appointment for someone to come out. After hours of waiting, no one ever came out. Later, I was informed that the driver broke down and could not make it. Then I scheduled another appointment for them to come out to get the lawn tracker and again no one showed up! This time no one even called to explain why they never showed up. When I called the company, the person on the phone was very rude. They had about every excuse why they couldn't come out. First they said they were really busy so they missed our stop, then they said a coworker got injured when driving and couldn't finish the pick up, then they said they were short staffed and didn't have enough drivers, and lastly they said they couldn't pick up lawn tractors because the winches to haul the tractor was broken. After I told the person I don't want to do business with them, I was cursed at and then hung up on. Don't waste you time and money with this company. Very unprofessional. read more

I just went there because i couldn't figure out what was wrong with my Honda lawnmower. I did everything I could do on my own to try and fix it. I couldn't get a spark and brought it in to Pat. He was GREAT! He listened to me and didn't treat me like an idiot. He diagnosed the problem almost immediately after checking if I was getting a spark first (Mower wasn't sparking with new plug). It was a small part that was keeping the blades from rotating. He said that the engine needs the inertia of the blades in order to offset cord pull to get the motor running. He replaced the tiny part in the blade center and it started right up. I was afraid that I was gonna have to buy a new mower, which I can't afford. I would've hugged him if it wasn't completely inappropriate ;') I would definitely go back there, but I would go directly to him in the future. read more

I once took a lawn mower here which vibrated so badly that pieces of it would fly off when you started it. I pulled up to Star, went inside, and before long a guy walked out with me and helped get it out of my truck. He took a quick look and said the shaft was bent and it wasn't worth repairing. I said ok....then asked if he had any use for it? He said sure....and dragged it away back into the shop, lol. Like others have said, they aren't exactly "Mr Personality" at this place.....but they didn't strike me as rude in my brief experience. They didn't charge for the quick diagnosis either. excellent. Had trouble with wheels on craftsman snow blower. took to Sears Hardware in Doylestown pa and they were of no help. Stopped at Star and they knew more about my problem they Sears. Said there was a recall and would get the wheels for me. They took care of all the paper work and I received two new wheels thanks to the service and knowledge of their service tech. And NO charge. Back in 2009, I bought a zero turn from Star. First considered the big box store but I chose to have a relationship with a dealer who would take care of me and my purchase for the many years that I intended to own the mower. Great decision. Pat was wonderful in selling me the mower. In the last 8 years, he's taken great care of my machine. When considering a dealer/servicer, you want reliability and honesty. These guys are the last of the honest Abes. For example, years ago, I ran over an object and machine was off. Called Pat and he helped me over the phone take care of the problem myself, without cost. Ran over something else a few days ago (notice a trend?) and called Pat to pick up machine for service. When he stopped by house to pick it up, he figured out problem in 1 minute and told me to have a nice day and left with no charge. Any other place would have taken the mower and manufactured some reason for a fee. Do yourself a favor, choose Star. Don't just invest in a machine, invest in the relationship. You'll be glad that you did. read more
