Downstairs is the main area which has a fair sized dancefloor with a small stage area and there's a small door fee to get in on Friday/Saturday nights. The walls are covered with newspapers and magazines from bygone days and there are a few small flat screen tvs around the main area that sometimes show films, though you can never hear the sound they're a nice distraction when waiting to get served at the bar. Theres seating in one area of the dancefloor where the dj booth used to be and more couches and tables up on the split level. The bar serves a wide range of spirits, shots and alcopops though the prices are slightly higher than other pubs in town. Friday night is now Kiss N Kill night which is a very popular music night with a dj set and then a live band playing. There's nearly always a live band on a Saturday night too. I had the fish 'n chips and was informed the come two ways....the regular way and then with breadcrumbs. I asked the server which he preferred and he said with breadcrumbs, so that's what I ordered. Oh my, they were delicious! The fries were so good too. Nothing was greasy. It came with a small side of mushy peas and I could've had a whole plate of those but with the huge generous portion of fish I got, I couldn't even finish the second fish let alone having more mushy peas. My husband ordered the mussels and they were plump, juicy and large. I don't know how many he got but there were a lot of mussels! I'm wanting to say probably 20 or maybe even more. He said they were amazing, and they were served in a tin bucket which was pretty cool....the lid served as a perfect receptacle for the empty shells.
