If you're in Amsterdam and looking for a barbershop to get you cleaned up with a nice fade during…read moreyour travels, I highly recommend booking an appointment at District Barber with Geoffrey. It's easy to book an appointment online through their website. If you have short hair and a beard without a need for any styling/scissors, I recommend selecting the Buzz and Beard Trim (€55,00). You'll also get a heated towel treatment and razor to clean up your beard for a cleaner detail of your facial hair. I'm not sure if it's always available for customers, but I received a 10% discount on my haircut (€49,75) after booking and paying. During my time at District Barber, I had a great chat with Geoffrey, who listened to my request for a fade and to keep my lines natural. He also offered good recommendations for places to visit in and around Amsterdam. Since it was a week since my last haircut from my barber back home, Geoffrey could follow the fade lines from my last haircut without changing my fade/style. Geoffrey was detailed and took his time with the haircut, so expect to be in the chair for about an hour. Before Geoffrey was finished, he applied beard oil and brushed off any remaining hair before allowing me to see the final results. The fade was clean and well-blended. I was very pleased with the fade. Thanks again, Geoffrey! Don't forget to tip your barber for exceptional service. Safe travels!

I thought it a great idea to get a European haircut this trip. Last time was in Kilmore Ireland…read morewith a great Turkish barber. The barber was from Slovakia, in Netherlands about 6 months and happy with the opportunity. Language was no problem. I am and aging American fat, white, bald former hippy with a ponytail - begun withe Pandemic when I stopped going to a barber. We discussed my wife's desire for shorter beard, "like those young guys who look unshaven for a few days." White hair would have made me look either homeless or beardless. He listened to my desire to reduce wild hair over my ears, trimmed the ponytail to reduce split ends and did a fade with my beard and hair. Very impressive creativity. The District Barber is in the middle of the Red Light District and close enough to coffee shops or pubs, but offer water, coffee, beer or wine as you enter. Price isn't bad compared to US salon prices. Enjoy!

I was really nervous about my first haircut in Amsterdam. I have very thick hair and well my long…read morelocks are a bit like a security blanket. So I asked a fashion PR friend , aslo from NYC, where to go and she recommended Shampoo Planet. Made an appointment with Patrick and crossed my fingers. All the stylists here are senior stylists so theoretically the experience level is the same for the 49.50E that you pay. Patrick was a doll. We had great conversation - which for me is important - as I have a LOT of hair and the process can be a very long one. After a consultation of what I would like, what he thought would work and discussing a game plan, he washed my hair, taking the time to apply several different conditioners to my hair as it was indeed very dry. Nice little scalp massage to boot. He then proceeded to cut my hair wet. Dry it. And cut it some more so as not to take off too much length (a major concern of mine) but add the right shape etc. He was particularly cautious with my fringe, which I greatly appreciated, making sure not to go too short. I held back one star because I wasn't too fond of how he blew out my hair but that is probably more me not providing instruction and him not knowing my style. Received tons of compliments after the cut. The sun EVEN came out for the rest of the day! Plus Patrick gave me some excellent restaurant recommendations. I will definitely go back.

Finally. Finally. Finally. It has only taken me two years,…read morebut I have done it. I have found my hairdresser in Amsterdam. After trying Kinky Kappers (attitude problem) once, going to Toni & Guy for about a year (good, but just not 'it'), I decided to give Mirror and Mirror as go. My sis in law recommended it, it is down the block from where I live, and about €20 cheaper than Toni and Guy. What could go wrong? Nothing. I made an appointment with Kirsten. Showed up, and left with one of the best hair cuts I have had in over two years. My take on hair is that when you get your hair done you shouldn't just like it, you should love it. A new haircut should emphasize your natural beauty, personality, and make you think, 'yes, this is me. and I am awesome.' Essentially, I haven't had that feeling in a while, but Kirsten did such an amazing job I left feeling like a million bucks. Plus, the shop itself is just cool, low key, nicely decorated. Like you feel you are at a friends apartment, not a hoity-toity place that is stiff. The music selection was also top notch, it's just a nice vibe being there. Kirsten and I exchanged notes on yoga studios in AMS. Alex, the other half of mirror mirror seems also equally cool. He was cutting a woman's hair and when she left I loved her hair, it looked great on her and she looked super hip. These are hair dresses that are very talented, listen to what you want and are looking for, have years of experience and believe in giving great haircuts without breaking the bank. I don't think I'll be going anywhere else to get my hair done in AMS, and that is really a relief!

You can tell he's paying more attention to detail than most barbers. For example, he lets you know what he's actually trying to do to your hair while he's cutting it and pays attention to the natural lines of your hair and scalp and cuts according to that. A haircut is much more than just the length of your hair and he understands the science behind that to give you a cut that fits you. It's not just a haircut factory at this place and that's what sets Alex above the avg barber. It really feels like a bespoke experience here made just for your head. I cannot recommend Alex enough!
