Growing a beard is not just a matter of not shaving as many non beardies might think.
The hairs sprouting out of your face have a mind of their own, more so than the hair on your head (should you be so lucky to have some). This means that, depending on what kind of beard you want to grow means more or less attention to it. Just like that mop on your head.
Due to the Hipsters (I don't think they actually exist anymore as they've been copied more than a Hermès Birkin bag) barber shops have been sprouting out like mushrooms.
I'm terrible keeping my beard in shape, first of all there is symmetry and of course everybody who has a beard has had at least one accident where he cut off too much on one side.... Gone is the beard.
Haar Barbaar is are a friendly bunch of guys who have specialised in hair on guys and this specifically includes beards. They themselves are good showcases of what's possible. It's a male only affair, no women even for just a short trim. Sorry ladies.
The atmosphere could be described as that of a 1930's hair saloon. The chairs, the music, the everything.
No appointments possible, just walk in and one of the barbers asks what you're wishes are and will inform you of the waiting time (they have recently opened a second very large store in the Rozemarijnsteeg, that one needs to be lived in a bit more as it still smelled of paint when I was there the other week).
If the wait is not to long you'll be invited to take a seat and have a drink. Second time I was there the wait was over 40 min and I was directed to their much larger twin store.
I had grown my beard such that it would be possible to cut some shape into it and I wanted a professional to do it. So there I was for a second time at Haar barbaar. Though I don't think 15 Euros for work on a beard is exactly cheap but the time and precision this guy spend on making my beard look the way I wanted was definitely worth it. I guess it's like women spending 100 Euros on having their nails done (-;
When I walked in had a a 'sad beard' no direction, no shape just size. Nick of Haar Barbaar spend 30 minutes of pure concentration cutting and shaping it back into a 'happy beard'.
Happy beard, happy me!
I so wish I still had hair on my head so they could do a double pompadour!
Pricey, but to me worth it for not ruining the beard I've spend months to grow... No it only needs some regular professional attention. read more
