Hands on Acting! Kids on Stage and Screen Since 1985!
STAR Arts Education [aka The STAR Program] is one of the best summer programs available for young people interested in theatre and video arts, with multi-week, full-day sessions held at Brownell Middle School in Gilroy and at the historic El Teatro Campesino Playhouse in San Juan Bautista.
STAR has been a safe place for creative expression. Since 1985, STAR has transformed hundreds of children's lives by helping to boost their confidence and poise; encouraging their creative spirits; and teaching them collaboration, teamwork, and respect.
The STAR season includes two theatre performing arts programs and one video arts program in the summer, with Saturday workshops in the Fall and Spring.

History
Established in 1985.
STAR Founder and Executive Director Marilyn Abad-Cardinalli, Professor Emeritus of Theatre and Television Arts at Gavilan College, created STAR to give her students summer jobs where they would have the opportunity to share their passion for the performing arts with young people, while gaining practical experience in the arts.
STAR has since become an important summer tradition for many children and their families; from year-to-year and, in some cases, from generation-to-generation.
At STAR, we often say that "once you're a STAR kid, you're always a STAR kid!" We believe it is a testament to the success of STAR that so many of our STAR leaders were once STAR kids who grew up in the program; returning every summer because they loved the program and returning as young adults because they wanted to also be positive influence on others.
