I was so impressed with Zach who was working the printing and design area on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at the Iowa City store. I had a small print job but he had customer after customer lining up to purchase items, request unique print jobs, use the photocopier, and several were non-English speaking customers. He provide the best service to each and every customer, never getting rattled, but going the extra mile and even offering to load an office chair for a couple when he was swamped. I don't know if the store was short staffed or just a busy time between 1-3pm on Sunday, but I was thoroughly impressed! Staples in Iowa City used to be a great store. I purchased a computer and other attachments on February 10th, 2025. I was assisted by Tim Reineke. He was very professional, informative, patient and knowledgeable. He is a great asset to this company. However, even though the computer itself was in stock, some preparation needed to be done. I waited a few days and called several times to see if I could pick it up. It is now February 26 and it is still not ready. When I called today a man answered the phone and did not identify himself. He was short with me and very rude. The call was made just before 1:00 in the afternoon. He informed me the "computer guy" was not in and that I should call back tomorrow. I cannot believe one person who is off is the only one who can help customers who have bought a computer. Unbelievable. This person is a detriment to your company. I went to the store and I was told it was not ready. Again!!! Apparently, every time the "computer guy" is in and there are other customers, he has to stop and take care of them. This is not good business. Today he was interrupted several times while I waited. After two hours, I was able to take the new computer home. I am grateful to Mr. Reineke for his excellent service. I purchased a Brother three-in-one laser printer a few years ago with an extended warranty . It failed to scan , a similar problem that failed on the previous unit. The Staples warranty that I purchased was not honored ultimately. There were so many roadblocks in the way ! I even took it back to the store​ where I bought it , and the manager helped me out , but to no avail . I finally threw it in the trash. Stopped in for time cards today in Iowa City. Store was dirty (carpet had debris everywhere) and shelves had not been straightened up- a lot of merchandise was missing, half hanging out or on the floor. Made a comment to a worker/manager that the place looked unkept and was she short on help? She quipped "nobody wants to work anymore" and chalked up the appearance to it being the day to restock shelves. Another customer made a remark it had been going downhill for a year. I was going to buy copic markers and all of the prices were labeled incorrectly, so instead of telling me that or just processing my order as it should have been done, I had to come on, talk to a rep and have them tell me, whoops, we fucked up, we're just gonna cancel that order. Now I don't get my markers and Staples is no longer a store or website I will shop at. I am royally pissed off. I will not recommend Staples in the future. read more

My order didn't print correctly and the guy working the desk said he noticed it was messed up (but stuck everything in an envelope and let me walk out the door with it anyway). I went to use the self-service printer and it didn't give me the options I needed, so I went to the counter to have them print it. It was just one document, color, 2-sided. There were two people working behind the counter and one of them, a guy, was helping another customer. The young woman who was standing a ways back from the counter, hollered, "How can I help you?" I said, "I need to have something printed?" Without moving an inch toward the counter, she said, "When do you need it?" I said, "Today". She just stood there and didn't say anything. She didn't move up to the counter. She didn't ask what I needed to have printed so she could assess whether it could be printed the same day. She didn't seem to want to help. She just stood there. I felt awkward just standing there. I didn't know if she was going to help me or not. I got frustrated and said, "Never mind, I'll just try and get this self-serve printer to work." Then I heard her tell the next customer that I "went crazy". I didn't do anything close to that. I said it in a frustrated tone and walked back to the self-serve printer. She was being passive-aggressive by standing there and letting me feel awkward. Terrible customer service in that department. All the other employees throughout the store are very courteous. But this woman was very unfriendly and didn't seem to want to help. I see other posts here from people who are also not happy with their print department. (Ali S., J.M., Robin H). I went there to print something i emailed them and they said it will be ready next day around 10:30am and when i got there next say there was a girl she said i m the manager i explained the thing she was soo rude, and said my email is down, no access now i dont know when it will be ready and during the conversation she was just super rude to me! Be caraful if u stop by there dont try to get in any conversation with her. And its the 3. We've been frequent shoppers at Staples in Iowa City for many years and have always had a positive experience. Most of my purchases are technology related such as computers, printers, routers, cables, uninterruptible power supplies, hard drives, and as a tech consultant helping other people buy computers. We've also purchased shredders, office furniture, and other office supplies. When returns or warranty service has been needed we've never had any hassles. Perhaps because I am a frequent visitor to the store, it's not difficult for me to find what I'm looking for. Some people have given the store a very bad review because they claim it is not well organized. The areas of the store are fairly well marked with signs. As soon as you walk into the store it's fairly obvious that computers are in front of you, technology supplies are on the left-hand side of the store such as hard drives, routers, networking cables, etc. Printers are found in the middle of the store and traditional office supplies are on the right side of the store such as pans, clipboards, organizers, etc. read more

Awful. This is the only place outside the University you can go to print things in Iowa City and it's always a hassle. Their self service printer never works, the USB port is shot. I've tried several flash drives and they never work but the staff just shrugs. Then you have to ask them to print at the desk, it takes forever and in some cases they charge you more than they would at the self service printer for "express service," even though it's their fault you had to ask them to print!! Horrible. Also staff either doesn't wear masks or wears them below the nose which is unsanitary. Do not recommend. read more

Terrible service. Went in there to have 500 prints done on Tuesday, it took the gal 6 tries just to write my phone number down and I should have known then to leave. I received a call Wednesday night saying that someone deleted my file before they were able to print my order and that I needed to drop it off again. Next morning I am there at 8 am with my file and tell the guy I need them by noon. Go back at noon and the same guy is at the counter and acts like he knows nothing about my order. I tried telling him the same story I told that morning along with the fact that he was the one I spoke to that morning and he just acted like it wasn't his problem and he had nothing, no paperwork, no file, no nothing. WHAT A JOKE! Needless to say, I walked out empty handed and told them I would take my business elsewhere from now on. read more

I bought an HP USB drive and it was a piece of junk. HP technical service gave me the run-around and said they wouldn't replace it without a serial number. None of the numbers on the drive corresponded to a serial number, so HP had a cool scam: require the customer to produce a valid non-existent serial number before they would honor their warranty. The mnager let me exchange yhe flash drive for another, and even let me switch brands! No more HP products for me! The management at staples helped me with my problem. That was great service and they earned my future business. read more
