Stanwix Community Association offers a meeting room for hire to members of the community in and around Stanwix. It is available to the wider community of Carlisle also. As well as being an excellent meeting room for groups, adult education, young children's parties and for business meetings; it has been upgraded recently to function as a training room. The centre is now equipped with business broadband, interactive whiteboard and projector to support business trainers, adult education teachers. It is perfect for community groups who need a small exclusive use venue, to fulfill their training needs in the northern side of Carlisle. The small kitchen area with its facilities for warming & preparing food is perfect for day courses, evening classes and delivers one of the best value venues in Carlisle for all the meeting & training functions mentioned above. Seating and tables are flexible and can be stored out of the way; leaving a large floor area for yoga, dance & other activities.

History

Established in 2006.

Stanwix Community Association was brought into being around 2006 to manage the community buildings and the recently acquired Glebeland playing fields just along the road. Stanwix Primary School gave up the use of the 2 huts on the site after completing the building of new classrooms on the main site. The SCA was reformed as a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee in 2009 and continues in this form. In 2011 SCA undertook a fundraising project to replace the aging buildings on the site. This was ultimately unsuccessful (recession in full swing) but we were able to gather enough support to rebuild the hut for the Stanwix Playgroup and this was opened in 2012. Financial viability was improved by renegotiation of our lease agreements with the county, for the community buildings site and with the Church authorities for the Glebeland. In common with many community organisations the SCA is kept going by a tiny group of activists. We are always keen to find new blood to join and help.

Paul Nedved is the current Chairman of the Stanwix Community Association. His commitment to Stanwix as a community is confirmed as he is also the councillor for the Stanwix rural ward.
