Short story: Poor customer service, poorly trained employees (both salesmen and technicians), no actual doctor, and so impersonal. Long story: Two stars might be too much, I was very unimpressed with Stanton Optical. Normally I don't leave a review, but it was SO bad I'm taking the time to share so you might choose to avoid this place for yourself. When making an appointment over the phone, the lady I was talking to was so eager to hang up on me. She says, "okay bye!" prompting me to say "no I am not done, I still have questions." It was not a long phone call, maybe five minutes tops. When I show up to my appointment, the tech doesn't know how to adjust the machines that puff air into your eyes, so I am seated in an awkward slumped position. Not to mention the glitter that was still on the chin pad. Not cleaned after each person, eww that's right next to my mouth! Finally, I wait 20-30 minutes to see the eye doctor even though I had made an appointment and was on time. When I go in the room, it's a person on a television screen, likely from another country as there was a long delay between my responses and his actions. No actual doctor exists in-house at this location on Telshor. When it comes time to order my glasses, for some reason the salesman can't figure out how to charge me for both pairs of glasses. He fiddled around on the computer for probably close to 45 minutes. Overall I was in Stanton for TWO hours! I gave them two stars because my glasses were ready quickly! I got one of the pairs within 24 hours which was extremely nice. When I went to pick up my second pair, the salesman goes to adjust them to fit in my face and answers the phone. He then proceeds to chat to the person (his boss) while I am left waiting. He tells his boss all about how business is going, why they didn't make their sales quota the day before, how they are role playing with customers, etc. Also, you should know they have an automated system that kept calling me and saying I had an order to pick up after I had already gotten all my orders. Not too big of a deal, but unprofessional and obnoxious. I had to go in to ask them to please stop calling me. read more

Complete Bait-and-Switch Scam. "Free" eye exam was $45. It's done by video chat that cuts out the entire time. Don't expect to ask questions. They hang up on you before you can. You get $45 credit toward purchase of glasses. For the 2 for $59.95 deal, there are only 6 frames to choose from and they are beyond ugly. I was told other frames are buy one get one free, without lenses. So the out-the-door cost came to $232. I complained so they offered me one pair for $59. I told them I didn't want to do business with them. I asked what my unaided vision tested at...20/20! I don't think that's even accurate. Wow. I asked them to file for the exam cost with my insurance and refund the difference, which they did. So for $20 I had the worst eye exam ever and wasted 90 minutes. Do not bother with this place! Went to my eye exam appointment once I told them I was only there for the eye exam I began receiving terrible customer service. After signing in, I waited in the lobby, I was approached my by a woman who I assumed was the optometrist. She asked my if they "explained everything to me." I said no and she eventually gave me an iPad to fill out my information. After filling it out I was given a "pre exam" during which, the procedures were not explained to me. After my "pre exam" I was told they would be with me shortly any was left to wait at the exam area. While waiting to be seen by the doctor the staff were shooting rubber bands at eat other in front of customers. I eventually got my eye exam via a video call. After my eye exam I was told that I had 20/20 vision unassisted. I wish I knew that when I got my first pair of glasses 5 years ago. I am still waiting to receive a copy of my RX. I wish it was possible to give less than one star. Edit: finally received a prescription by email but it was not mine. Called the manager and have gotten no response. read more

Ok, I'll be honest I had some serious issues at first. My first prescription was wrong and I had to drive all the way to El Paso to see a doctor versus doing the eye exam over their video chat here in cruces. The Stanton optical made everything that was wrong better for me prescription wise. I had to come back and visit the Las Cruces store again and they redid my order for me. I, personally wouldn't recommend the eye exam that's offered here in cruces. But if you're able to see a doctor on site, then I'd recommend them. From someone who originally rated this place 1 star. Stanton's enticing promotions are subject to a lot of fine print and hidden prices that will severely limit your options for glasses on a budget. I was looking for new glasses and the "Two glasses for $59 and a 'free' eye exam" promotion caught my eye. I expected that I would be limited to very basic frames, but the real kicker was that I was charged for 'premium' lenses since my RX is relatively strong. Be aware that if you have any astigmatism or a spherical value outside of +/- 2.00, you will be charged a ton for lenses. Even for premium lenses I was expecting only about a $30-$40 increase in overall price. After the salesman did his calculations he quoted me in excess of $550 for two sets of glasses, one of which was supposedly free according a separate 'buy one get one free' promotion (keep in mind the exam was also marketed as 'free'). I was ready to walk out, but he eventually talked me down to one pair with lens tint (sunglasses), and a 'free' eye exam for just under $200. The eye exam was done over video chat and went well enough, but I could tell that the optometrist was trying to get me out as soon as possible. Afterwards, I was told that my lenses would be ready in two weeks to allow for manufacturing and shipping, contrary to their window signs that claimed you would get your glasses the same day. They were not ready by the estimated date and took two extra days. When I finally picked them up the prescription was true to the eye exam, but the tint is so light that they barely count as sunglasses, my eyes are easily visible behind them (no polarization either). However the worst part of the whole experience is that the lens power is not consistent across the entire area and they produce blurry/split images when viewing through the top of the lenses. I will likely never wear them. Bottom line: You can get low cost eye exams of better quality at almost any other optometrist, and you can order glasses of far superior quality and with far superior selection from online glasses stores that will get you your glasses in half the time and for a quarter of the cost of Stanton (which I ended up doing). Overall, a very disappointing, albeit eye-opening, experience. Avoid at all costs. read more

These guys are the literal worst. I've met more trustworthy and organized drug addicts. They will pester you every step of the process trying to get you to buy a more expensive pair and jack you up higher and higher from the advertised price. Their free eye exam is $90 if you decide to leave without them squeezing more money out of you and of you actually do get glasses from them you will get the mother of all runarounds. I went in for my eye exam 07/06. They told me over and over how bad just one eye is and that I "really need" their more expensive lenses. After telling them at every turn that I would not be exceeding their advertised price of two pairs for $60 they began telling me how ridiculous the finished product would look and how I'm making it very difficult to produce my glasses. Once the exam was done they led me to the only two frames available for the advertised price, both of which had to have been designed to have been that ugly. They insisted on showing me all of the more expensive frames as I reassured them I would not be paying anything additional. After finally accepting that I wasn't going to spend another penny, they ordered them but had to send out for them because they couldn't make them in store, despite having a lens lab in plain view. They told me they would be ready in two weeks at the latest. That's an absurdly long wait to begin with, but it gets better. I called them two Weeks later and they had no record of my order in their automated system. After speaking to several customer service call center agents they transferred me to the front desk who told me it would be at least another two weeks because my prescription was "too severe" and needed to be special made. Out of plastic. They then reminded me that I bought the cheapest pair and that's why this was so difficult. After waiting another two weeks and getting more run around I went in the store where they can be grudgingly refunded my money which took a few days to return to my account. The very next day they left a voicemail on the wrong phone number telling me that my glasses had miraculously arrive to that day and to come in and pick them up if I still wanted them. At this point I needed to wait for their refund to post so I could re-pay for all the headache I've gone through. After another phone call with them I came in store and tried my long awaited (34 days at this point) glasses on! And guess what?! In addition to being thick as a brick (a little thickness I understand) the prescription was all wrong! Everything is fish eyed and looks like a skateboarding video. I'm honestly safer driving without my glasses than with them on. So after wait over a month and having to stay on them, the final product is unusable and needs to be refunded. Again. Either this is the worst eyeglass company in the world or the employees intentionally caused as many problems as possible because I wouldn't budge on buying more expensive glasses. As a bonus, after you Pay for your frames and I exam there is an additional $55 charge they try to sneak in on your paperwork. Every time I've called they've tried to charge me that extra charge and every time they swore they would make a note not to charge me and every time I called back they tried to charge me again. If you advertise two frames for $60It's not fair to try to sneak in extra charges after the initial payment. read more

I found the service was good from the start. Israel (?) helped me select a new frame and use an old pair of frames I had for new progressive lenses. The exams were well done, including with the doctor remotely - not sure this is what some people are used to, but again the exams went well. The WORST service ever. After 6 weeks of NUMEROUS mistakes, 3 eye exams (the test lenses were dirty-I mentioned this to no avail) and 3 different lenses, repeated false information and incorrect text alerts. Israel the manager at that second, refused to give me my lenses when I FINALLY complained. I was too nice for too long. He refunded my money after wasting a month and a half of my time, wearing the wrong prescription and said "I'm not going to give them to you because you'll just come back and yell and be mean to me again". I was excited to see Stanton Optical open in Las Cruces. Not so excited after the visit. First, I was not told that I would be seeing a person on a screen for my exam, not until I was already through the first part of the exam. And,! For the first part, the young man did NOT clean the chin guard on the air machine. I was in a very uncomfortable position. Then he fumbled and bumbled around to get the TV screen and computer running. I was not able to discuss my particular problems with this person (probably not even in the US!) It seemed as if the entire office was bumbly or fumbly. There was a lot of interactive conversations going on while waiting on customers. The staff would interrupt another staff member for assistance, and, it seemed no one could make an executive decision. As for the billing, wow! The sale was very high pressure. If the sales associate had stayed with me, rather than doing 3 or 4 visitors at a time, I might have not felt so pressured. I was overcharged quite a bit on the first visit, went back to get that credited to me. Then, I had asked if my insurance could be used, told not accepted, only to find out it was accepted, had to go back for that credit. That final credit was entered completely wrong to my credit card. Showed up for my 5:45 appointment and the first thing the guy says you need a doctor's appointment I said yes I need an exam and he said there's no doctor here we'll have to do a virtual exam. Not too sure what the hell that is but I went to the back room with him he then asked about my insurance and told me that I could not get the buy one get one free with insurance because my ductable my deductible is too high. He then proceeded to tell me that for the glasses I needed even though he did not look at my glasses nor did he do an exam with me would be anywhere between 225 and $300. He seemed agitated when I got there like you really wanted to go home and feel like made no effort to really try to help us find a pair of glasses. VISIT #1: I went to Stanton for a new script and glasses. I was surprised that before my exam I was required to pay $45 for an exam. I was told it would be credited to me when I ordered my glasses. I received a "virtual eye exam" and ordered a $400 pair of glasses. I called the next day as my husband told me TriCare would cover vision and when I called Stanton was told they did take TriCare, but I needed to come in first as she was not sure what they would cover. VISIT #2: I came in the next day, showed them my Tricare card and was told Tricare would only cover the exam and my exam was free cause I had ordered my glasses. Visit #3, got a call my glasses were ready and went in to pick them up. Couldn't see out of them even though I took them anyway to see if my eyes would adjust (at the suggestion of the staff). No go. Can't see out of the glasses. VISIT #4: Returned and received another virtual eye exam. New Script. Had to wait for new glasses. VISIT #4 New glasses with the new script and again, can't see out of the glasses. Took them anyway to see if my eyes would adjust (at the suggestion of the staff). No go, can't see out of the glasses . VISIT #5 Went back again talked with the associate and let them know, virtual exam couldn't get my script correct, however I could go on the army base and get a script. Was told that was fine, come back in with the script and they would make my glasses. In the meantime, I get my credit card bill: One for Stanton optical for $400, but the $45 charge under another name for the exam, Vision Precision Holdings. I have now had it with Stanton Optical. VISIT #6 I go in to the store and ask for a refund for the glasses I can't see out of, and for the exam they never got right and had repeatedly been told I was not charged for. Was told they would give me a credit for the glasses, but not the exam, as I received that service. When I told them, the service did not provide me with a correct script for my glasses it was implied the second set of glasses were made wrong, and they would not give me a credit for the exam. When I told them I would be posting a negative post on yelp and their website and customer service should be a priority, I was told I was being threatening and I needed to leave! Are you kidding me! How is that threatening? Hope my credit card company will be more reasonable than this place. read more

I've currently been waiting 3 months for my trial contacts. I am hoping this review will either make the Stanton Optical team do better or stop customers from going all together. My initial appointment was Feb 12th. They informed me that it would take about a week to receive my trial contacts. After 3 weeks of waiting I decided to stop in and check the status. Not only were the trial not received but based on my first visit they needed to preform ANOTHER eye exam. I am convinced had I not stopped in I would have never heard from them. I did the exam and my prescription changed A LOT. Again, I was informed the contacts would be ready in a week. I never received a phone call after a few more weeks of waiting, I decided to call them. They informed me they would look into and call me back that evening. I did not received a call back. The next day I called them and was placed on hold just to be disconnected. I ended up just driving to Stanton, the gentleman informed me that one of my contacts came in but not the other. He told me it would be just one more week. This was mid-April. Here we are on May 15th, and I called to check the status of my contacts and now the automated system is saying I have NO ORDERS. I called to speak to a representative and was placed on hold then transfer to a number (i'm assuming a manager's number) and left a voicemail explaining I need an answer today or I would file a charge back with my credit card and call the BBB. 15 minutes later, I got a call informing me that they had my trials in. I went in shortly after, I was given my trials and felt forced to choose between 6 months or a 1 year supply of contacts. This was my first time trying contacts so I really wanted to actually do the TRIAL with the TRIAL contacts. The manager was apart of this interaction and not once apologized. Not to mention, when I was putting the contacts in the manager and an associate were talking about another employee. They were openly talking about it so I heard the whole story about a coworker lying about calling out and how the manager told him if it happens again your fired. Extremely unprofessional. With that aside, the whole experience was very unpleasant. 3 months is too long to wait for trials, customers should never have to follow up so many times and it should be made clear that you won't see an actual optometrist but will be doing your exam over FaceTime. read more

We went round and round with the salesman before getting to "the eye exam is free but you're paying to get the prescription the basic package being over $100, then they add other extras without asking if you want it and some how the buy one get free didn't seem to be happening, the only way we got the price down was by only getting 1 pair of frames and the salesman kept going on and on about how much of a deal he was giving us and how much he was saving us... this was the most expensive pair of glasses we ever got! Stopped in on a Sunday for an overdue exam and was worked in right away. The office seemed sparsely staffed initially but ultimately there were at least 4 staff members there to help; each with a different role. All were pleasant and helpful. My actual exam was my first experience with Telemedicine - the actual physician / ophthalmologist who performed my exam / assigned my Rx was not present in the room. He was maybe a mile away or he could have been states away, who knows. Nevertheless, he was available, present and thorough. Ahhh, the wonders of technology and it's application to modern medicine. Quite interesting. After the exam, David was delightful and enthusiastic to help with my purchase. I felt he genuinely wanted to make sure I got the most from my health care benefits for the price and minimized my out of pocket expense. My Rx wasn't simple so I purposefully waited to assess things until after I'd received them and worn them for a couple weeks. Well, not only did my lenses arrive earlier than expected, they were spot on. No more headaches and I can see! Nice job David & Stanton Optical. Just as terrible as EVERYONE has said. I did have great customer service from Isreal, but everything else was a jip. Don't think that anything that you see on the signs is true- it's not. Especially, the prices. You end up paying the same amount that you would at an actual ophthalmologist's office, with a real doctor, because they don't have one, which is probably why they tell people that your insurance doesn't cover your exam, so they can get the cash because insurance companies only deal with real doctors. All they have is a virtual doctor in Florida. I loved the frames I had carefully picked out (with the dutiful help of Isreal, who is really good )and had already paid my 45.00 cash before I found that out and had a bad feeling throughout the examination and afterwards, so I left to sleep on it and thankfully check these reviews. Basically, I'm out of my hard earned dollars for a prescription I doubt (especially after reading the other reviews) is even correct , and will still have to go to a REAL ophthalmologist that's covered by my insurance, because the only way I'll ever go back there is to see if I can get my money back if this script turns out to be wrong. I made our appointments on-line for my wife and my self using their website, it was very easy to do. We got there for our appointments and were handed an IPAD to fill out our medical information. We have to do that every time we going to a new health professional. After we filled out our forms, a young lady had us move between 4 different machines that tested our eyes. Again, pretty typical for any optometrist. But then we (separately) went into a room for our eye exams. The exam was done remotely by an optometrist on the video screen. He moved the lenses on the machine remotely. Asking me, "#1" or "#2" , "Which one is better?". It was just like he was in the room. At one point, the young lady who did the first tests came in and put a small vision chart in front of my eyes. He finished by using the small chart and the exam was over. She printed out my prescription and I went into the main room and looked at frames. I decided to buy the 2 for $99 glasses with progressive lenses. These glasses are very basic, they don't have UV protection or scratch resistance. I was also limited on my choice of frames, but that's ok. I just wanted some more reading glasses and I wasn't concerned about the frames. The salesmen were very nice and not pushy at all. Overall, great experience so far. I don't get my glasses for two weeks, but I'm not in a hurry. read more

Interesting experience! I broke my husband's glasses last night and we went to Stanton Optical in Las Cruces today to replace them. My husband also needed an exam and new prescription. The attendant wasn't sure what our insurance covered so she had to research it on the Tricare website. The exam was done by video...my husband thought it was strange and unexpected and left him wondering about the qualifications of the doctor. After the exam he started choosing frames. There was a large selection. That part was fine. When we went to order the actual glasses with lenses and all it seemed awfully pricey...they had signed us up for a no glare coat at 50 dollars per lens and a 25 dollar frame warranty without telling us. Once I got the guy to explain exactly what the insurance was paying and what we were responsible for it went just fine. It was nice to get his glasses after only thirty minutes but be careful about extras you hadn't planned on! read more

Prior to Stanton Optical opening in Las Cruces I saw the advertisements of 2 pair of eyeglasses for $59.95 and free eye exam so I told my daughter about this place. Today, March 9, 2018 my daughter ended up having to pay $600+ for eyeglasses and a pair of contact lenses. This place is not inexpensive as they pretend to be, they are very expensive. They need to be more honest in their advertising and not advertise cheap prices to get a customer into the store then when you are there they charge high prices. read more
