Bar is one of the remaining bars from the days of the Stockyards. Got on just after they opened. Had the TV on wgn. Was trying to get in through a door they didn't use for admittance. Eventually found the right door. Ordered a Hamm's on draft. The other patrons there seemed to enjoy the lunch. I'm not the biggest fan of meatloaf though so just went with the beer. Neat being in a bar with so much history.

Chicago - A yellow parking barrier with a sign for Stanley's customer parking is positioned in front of a black fence and construction equipment.

A time-warp bar when packs of 'Cigs', slabs of Red Meat, Mashed Potatoes and overflowing shots of Whiskey was Lunchtime Bliss! Long gone are the days of high-noon indulgence, but a pit-stop at 43rd and Ashland just might punch your meal ticket. Stanley's has been around awhile and knows a thing or two about a 'liquid lunch' or the daily 'Blue Plate Special'.

Simple and delicious with an ice cold brew!

Great old bar in the heart of Chicago, Bruce the bartender with his handle bar mustache is a worth the visit. Wanda (93) the owner is a treasure. Make the trip but don't come late, Wanda may lock the doors at 8 pm

Built to serve the hordes of the Chicago Stockyard, Stanleys has been here since 1924. It has been a staple in an area that has gone through a 180 degree change in the last 93 years and that includes Wanda, the epic woman at the end of the bar doing the books and running the joint for lord knows how long. Walking into the place, it gives you the feel of how the neighborhood used to be...a time when men would come in from the stockyard during there lunch break to talk to one another and share a meal and a shot or two. The woodwork is beautiful and breath taking, reminding you of a time when men worked with there hands and created pieces of art that would stand the test of time. Our bartender, Bruce brought the experience full circle. He shared his knowledge of how things used to be but in an elder type of way like your uncle would and you end up being drunk in the process. His service was second to none and made me enjoy Stanley's that much more. Stanley's... here is a salute to old Chicago. A Chicago that will be forgotten if not experienced the way I experienced today...Cheers

Stanley's is an old school tavern with great food and service. Fun atmosphere and the food and drinks are reasonably priced.

Mildly sticky floors (But in the good dive bar sort of way), overpopulated wall decorations, and friendly looking bar people who've been curating the classic rock playlist since before George Bush ran for president.

Dive bars are my thing, but this…read moreone reminded me of one of those hillbilly country bars with sparse options in liquor and potentially boring vibes. One other bar patron was in. No music was playing. However...within five minutes, I could already tell I was going to like it here. Steve, who I later found out was the owner, was very hospitable & friendly, turning on music, catering to my silly request to see the stop light colors change, etc. Eventually, more people started arriving at the bar, including live music. Everything fell into place. It became a really great experience, where people were all friendly and welcoming. Bathroom was clean. Bar was clean. ATM works perfectly (it's a cash only bar). I love good bars and "good vibes" (and hate the phrase good vibes but whatever it works here ) and if the shoe fits, hey, enjoy it while you can! Oh and disclaimer - nothing wrong with a hillbilly bar, I tend to meet the best people at these hole in the wall establishments who've, ya know, actually lived their lives and have rich stories to share If I'm back in Chicago, this'll be a place I'll try to visit again. If you're local, better check it out. I'm an expert, trust me

There is an epic wall mural that features different aspects of the city, including a huge Barack Obama head. As I said: epic. The bar is separated into two distinct parts, divided by a counter/tables in the center (you have to walk all the way around if you want to switch sides or move at the tables). On one side is the bar and a few TVs to watch the games, giving it a louder sports bar kind of vibe. On the other side there are a bunch of tables--almost like picnic tables. It feels very communal and laid-back. It's a place you can sip on drinks and easily spend time with a group of friends. The Cove is very group-friendly. My favorite part? My friend brings his dog there and it's no problem. Is this bar a dive? Yes. Do I care? No. Do I actually love it? Absolutely. Best bar on the area, hands down.
