WHAT HAPPENED:
MY HUBCAPS WERE STOLEN!
DETAILS:
i have been parking at this garage for less than a month and my hubcaps to my car have been stolen. yes, i had an alarm.
apparently, the person that sits in the office did not hear the alarm go off. unusual because my alarm goes off at the sound of a noisy motorcycle passing by my driveway. and if you know this garage, its' structure resembles a huge warehouse with only two levels so if an alarm went off, it would be pretty loud.
anyway, went i got to the garage on my way down to the basement level, i remember passing by attendant sitting inside the office staring into his laptop. judging from my observations in the past, he didn't exactly seem like he would be the type of person to want to take the time to go downstairs to check on an alarm. to his credit, he did take the time to call the manager, Peter, for me without me having to ask. Peter said that the camera belonged to the building landlord so i would have to wait 24 hours for him to contact the building manager and review the video. when i asked Peter whether or not this sort of incident or any other theft had occurred in the past, Peter replied, "NO."
funny thing is, i waited for the Berkeley Police Officer to come and take an incident report and when i asked the police office whether or not she knew of any past incidents of theft at this garage, the officer's resounding reply was, "YES! Many."
i have a feeling that Peter is just trying to keep things quiet for obvious reasons.
i paid for the rest of the month so i guess i'm stuck for a couple of weeks. in the mean time, i will be parking on the first level as close to the office as possible!
MY TAKE:
IF THEY ARE PAYING ATTENDANTS TO JUST SIT INSIDE THE OFFICE, THEY MIGHT AS WILL HAVE THEM DO A SECURITY WALK THROUGH EVERY SO OFTEN. THERE ARE ONLY TWO LEVELS AFTER ALL AND HOW HARD CAN THAT BE. MANAGEMENT HAS NO BUSINESS SENSE AND SHOWS A LACK OF INTEREST IN SECURITY AND THE VALUE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more
