This is a prime location if you are going to any type of arts activity in downtown San Francisco the parking spaces are not that large, but they will accommodate all size vehicles that can fit inside of a normal parking garage. Pro tips : reserve a space online Arrive early if you cannot reserve a space online If the light is full, and you are disabled flash, short disability blue placard and they will let you in for the disabled parking area. It's best to pay by card or tap, and you must pay before exiting at the kiosk. read more

The Performance Arts Garage is located very close to the Symphony Hall and the War Memorial Opera House, which makes it very convenient. The parking was $25, which isn't horrible for San Francisco. They have parking spots with EV chargers that you can charge your car for up to 4 hours during a certain time period. We don't have an EV car, but if you do it's convenient. Tip: You can scan a bar code and pay that way so if you are going to a performance, it's nice to pay ahead of time to help avoid the lines out of the parking lot. read more

Used to park here during Covid for watching shows at the symphony. It is not cheap but cheaper if I do Uber roadways. It is fairly safe over this garage. However, space is very limited. Sometimes the staff could be giving off some attitudes. But overall, a safe place to park at night for shows at symphony and the SF ballet. read more

SF Symphony no longer sells parking passes to the performing arts garage with season subscriptions. They say we must now buy them from SFMTA. However there is no place on the SFMTA website to do this. Subscriber services at SF Symphony says they do not know when this will be available, but they are deeply concerned because the season is coming up very soon, and many subscribers are threatening to drop their subscriptions if they can't get parking ahead of time. This is literally what they said to me today, 7/1/25. This is a complete failure on the part of SFMTA. A disaster. read more

With a show to see at the Herbst Theater on a recent Thursday evening, figuring out where to park was the next decision the pre-show consideration. Granted, I probably could have found street parking in the area, I didn't want to be worrying about my car during the show and looked for parking garages in the area. Saw that the Performance Arts Garage was around the corner from the Theater and decided that I'd park my car there. Entered the garage on Grove St. Their flat rate for theater and special events is $22. Parked on the third floor by the elevators and since it was a flat rate, I paid at the pay station now rather than after the show to avoid any possible lines. After the show, we went straight to the car and exited at their Gough St exit. This garage is convenient for watching a show, opera, ballet or symphony and $22 is a fair price to pay for the area. read more

Your car will definitely be safe here since it is valet parking and there are workers roving all over the place, watching all of it, and pedestrians can't go into the parking zones. You roll in and you feel like you're in a fancy hotel. They do business and they take your car and park it and they charge you and then you come back later in the day and they'll bring it back around for you. It's good. They have a nice seating area and I've never had any problem with them. read more

This is a convenient place to park in the Hayes Valley area as it is within walking distance to Civic Center and a variety of things to do. It is easy in and easy out and there is a security person on the premises. The ticket dispenser and pay machines look fairly new. But the BEST part is that it's only $2 per hour all day to park!! Yes, you heard me right, only $2 per hour!! Where else can you park in San Francisco for only $2 per hour and pay only $10 for being there 5 hours? The other garages nearby had rates of $32-$36 for the same amount of time. It's a no brainer. I think with performances being on hold during Covid this garage was able to drop their rates in order to attract business. So if you have things to do in the Civic Center area, this is a great place to park before the rates go back up. read more

Total rip off!!! My friend found this garage through the Sydney Goldstein Theater website, which listed the rate at $2 per hour. We were going to the theater on a Monday night; upon arrival at the garage, signs stated event parking was $20- a far cry from the total of $6 we thought it would be, but we decided to park there anyway. An attendant was handing out the tickets and telling everyone the garage closed at midnight. After our event and dinner, we got back at about 10:30 to find the garage closed. WTF?! I called the number listed on Google, the attendant answered and was yelling at me that they closed at 10, but raised the gate. He came over shortly and I asked him why he was telling everyone they were open til midnight, if that's not the case. He was literally screaming at me "I'M HERE TIL MIDNIGHT!! YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE WHO LEFT THEIR CAR! ARE YOU GETTING YOUR CAR OR NOT?!?!" So rude and obnoxious. There were a lot of cars still parked there, as well. I was charged $20 on the machine for this headache, but was grateful that I was able to get my car the heck out of there. read more

I think your experience may be a hit or a miss, but I really liked this garage. If you get in early, they have early bird special pricing. I was headed to SFJAZZ, and this garage was very conveniently located near it. Overall the garage is about as clean as you can get, especially for San Francisco. Also, I love that it's self park and covered parking. Overall, the spaces seemed reasonable in size (I would say HUGE in size for SF). I paid a $14 flat rate early bird entry to park all day. $14 for parking in SF, I'm definitely NOT complaining about that! When I left the garage, the attendant was incredibly helpful. He helped me figure out the payment and even took the time to help me turn the right direction to get to where I was going (the freeway). I always end up parking here whenever there's a performance at the Symphony. There's a flat rate whenever there's a performance, and I believe this varies but has been consistently $20 whenever there's something going on at the Symphony. We have been using this parking garage every time we go to the San Francisco Ballet. It's a convenient location where you can get in and out relatively quickly if you know which side to exit. Basically any street but Gough. It's very difficult to exit on the Gough side with traffic. Another tip if you are watching a sow, plan to have lunch or dinner in the area before the show, since you'll be paying the same price, usually $20 either way. It saves you time and you beat the rush into the garage before the show. Also make sure you pay before exiting if watching a show, so you don't have to wait in line to pay and can get directly in your car and exit before the mad rush. I'd definitely recommend that you park at this garage when attending a ballet or the symphony. It's close and not overly expensive for a garage in San Francisco. read more

We arrived early on Saturday 26th at 4:45 pm to park in the Performing Arts Garage like we have done before opera and symphony performances for many years. Much to our surprise and disappointment the garage was "full" and available only to those with reservations (or monthly passes). So this morning I went on the SFMTA website to try to reserve a space for our next SF Opera performance on Nov. 29th. Apparently no way to reserve a space for a specific date - only monthly pass purchases. So who are the lucky people able to reserve? Apparently full subscription holders of SF Opera (not partial subscribers as I was told by SF Opera). This is very unfair and especially discriminatory to seniors who need to park close to performing arts venues but may not be full subscribers. I'd like to hear from SFMTA and from SF Opera about this unfair practice. Please make this garage accessible to all on first-come-first served basis. read more

Parked here for an evening out at the SF Symphony. Signs everywhere "if you love it, don't leave it". I'm not naive about the City, but if a lot is advertising that they are aware that they are targets of break-ins and theft, perhaps they should have security guards there instead of attendants who pretend not to speak English when you walk down to tell them your car was broken into while you were at the Symphony even through they greeted you in perfect English four hours ago. We drove in hoping to charge our electric vehicle at the charging station. We found the station and parked. The parking attendant walked up and told us it wasn't working. He said they wouldn't charge for parking if we left within 5min of arriving. We got to the gate and he was standing there and asked us for money to pay for parking. He was not friendly and had no responsibility for the chargers not working. After arguing back and forth he walked back to the office and gave us a refund. Not a good experience. read more

I feel like I've been bamboozled. Came her earlier in the day and was told that parking after 6 is only $1 an hour. Perfect for the Opera House. We normally park about 15-20 minutes away for free parking, but hey, this place is close and it's only a $1 an hour. I can deal with that! We get there 30 minutes before the performance and there is a dude charging $15 to get in, as apparently it converts into event parking at 6? Damn it! No time to find parking elsewhere and I could have had free parking if I knew they go into event parking rates. We parked here during our stay at the Hayes valley inn. Really close and convenient. Left our car here overnight and everything was fine. We came when the symphony was getting out and turned the two way traffic into one way (exit only) traffic and it made it difficult to park, but one of their employees stoped traffic for us to drive up the ramp. A parking garage convenient to both the Opera and to the Symphony, located in the block behind the Opera House on Grove Street. It is also convenient to park here and walk to nearby restaurants for dinner before the show. When there is a performance, the parking rate is $15 (flat rate until 1am). We arrived just past 5pm (when I believe the parking rate changed from hourly to flat rate), parked the car and then walked down Gough to Hayes for dinner at the Absinthe. We then walked to the Opera House for the show. After the performance, we quickly walked the block and a half from the front entrance of the Opera back to the parking garage. Everything is close and easy walking distance to this garage. The $15 rate for parking is actually less expensive than two tickets on Bart from Millbrae to Civic Center round trip ($17), making it competitive for two traveling from the south to the Opera (of course, not counting the car's wear and tear and gasoline). A perhaps better deal since we were dining at the Absinthe, would have been to use the valet parking at the Absinthe (Hayes & Gough) for $10 as the sign said that you can pick up your car anytime before it closes (2am), but we didn't know about that before we chose the Performing Arts Garage. Perhaps next time we will try that approach for parking for dinner at Absinthe followed by the Opera. The garage was staffed with attendant in the booth and was very clean. Note: Even though you paid your flat $15 to the attendant as you entered, you still needed your ticket to exit. read more

!!Not a safe garage don't park here !!! I have a monthly parking permit in the performing arts garage and I have been parking here for a few months only. This garage has terrible security. My catalytic converter has been stolen from my car while It was parked in the garage. I also came across a guy whose car's window was broken in the same garage a few weeks ago. I decided to move my car to a more secure garage. I am extremely frustrated with this garage security as I have seen two cases where cars were broken into within a couple of months only. They definitely need to improve their security. And their prices ain't cheap. read more

I don't know what's up with all these other reviews but after parking here for 3 months as a monthly parker I didn't experience any issues. The staff are helpful and friendly and I regularly saw people maintaining it and getting rid of garbage. It's also secure and they work hard to keep out people who try to drive in by following other cars. I was apprehensive because of the other reviews but I would recommend this place for sure especially if you need a monthly spot to park. Prices are reasonable for the area. read more

I need to report to jury duty at Superior Court of California County of San Francisco and I didn't know how long I would be there. I check all the parking garage near the area and this garage has a better price. I found out the courthouse do validation too so I only end up paying $7. Even if the courthouse didn't do validation the pricing is good and is very convenient. read more

I wanted to leave a review because the previous reviews made me super nervous before choosing this garage but I decided to try it anyway. I went to see Carly Rae Jepsen on June 28th and was planning to use the Civic Center garage but it was closed for Pride weekend. This one was another garage that was close enough to Bill Graham Civic Auditorium so I looked up reviews. The reviews about it closing early made me really nervous but I decided to go ahead anyway. I paid $18 flat rate because it was the special event fee. For the peace of mind of having a parking spot I was fine with it. I parked on the 4th floor and then walked to the concert venue (it was only a 5 minute walk). I found the employees to be nice and helpful, and the garage didn't close early which I was super relieved about as my concert got out at 11pm. I found it to be well lit and relatively clean. I also had no problem getting out of the garage quickly. I brought cash with me in case but was able to use my card to pay the fee at a machine. I would use this garage again. read more

The performing arts garage machine did not return my ticket even though I had paid for it. I missed an important appointment to drive to. There is only occasionally a person working on the premises and the phone number listed for services has a message that request that callers not abuse the operator answering the phone. Why would they say that unless they had a lot of people trying to get out and failing to do that. The signage in the garage provides no helpful information, The garage is in a convenient location with reasonable rates but if you want to get to your appointment in time, use another garage. read more

September 8, 2018 Let me begin by noting that I am Margaret Simmons and the two younger women who are part of this narrative are not named in this review but are in the police complaint. I state that at the onset because none of the men involved in this very distressing evening would give their names. At four o'clock a young woman drove her car into the City Garage on Grove Street. Two men were working on the pass box and when Ms. showed her Opera voucher, the voucher for which I had paid, they waved her in. They did not give her a ticket of any kind. The group went to dinner, attended the opera and in general had a very enjoyable time of it. WHen the time came to leave the garage after the opera Ms.showed the opera voucher and were refused exit. This is when it gets nasty. The misses , in the front seat, are younger than Mrs. SImmons in the back seat. The man in the red coat refused to let us exit, shrieking that we did not have a ticket. It was explained, calmly, many times, that there was no ticket. At one point the man in the blue jacket, who insisted many times that he had worked there for fifteen years, said there had to be a ticket. Ms. said, calmly, that "You are not listening. There was no ticket."At this point the man in the blue jacket said in the most patronizing way imaginable, "Let me help you. Pull over and I will help you find the ticket." We repeated, "There is no ticket. You are not listening." I would like you to imagine, at this point, the number of cars backing up behind us. And the idea that we would want to allow a strange man to go through our belongings when we knew there was no ticket! The man in the red coat moved to his phone and said he was going to help us out by calling his supervisor. Ms moved her car in order to allow the cars behind to exit. We moved over to Grove Street's exit. AT this point the man in the red coat became threatening, waving his red flag in my face. I took his picture as many times as I could. At this point the man in the blue coat came along and again threatened us in a patronizing and condescending fashion-"You do not want to get the police involved." Well, Actually, I did want to get the police involved but at that point yet another man arrived waving his fists and shouting "You are holding us all up." I called the police on 911 and the woman on the other end said she need the exact address. I said it was the City Garage on Grove Street. Cleary neither of the men, red coat or blue, knew the address because they smirked at me and shrugged. So we gave yet another man a handful of money, he opened the gate, and we left. I have, I realized this year, been going to the San Francisco Opera House more than seventy years. This is the first time I have ever been threatened. I realize that times are changing but to have these two men, plus the man with clenched fist yelling, should give me pause. What it has done is infuriate me. And, you know what, I am not sure there is much I can do about it. Is this our time now? read more
