We try to make an effort to come out to this one since it's so close instead of the 50th state fair, Punahou, Hawaii Kai, and Waimanalo. But I can say that I've been to all and even worked at some way back when. On the other hand, it's can get overly crowded and parking lots around the school, YMCA and Mililani Waena charges a $5 parking fee.. street parking is free if you're lucky. The carnival is currently on this weekend. During the evening and at night I wouldn't recommend bringing a stroller. It's so crowded in the top parking lot that it's such a hassle to walk through. However I can't believe they fit everything on the top lot. Would be nice to have it at the football field but I'm not sure if they would need to stake the nice grass turf.

Watching our kids feed the goats was one of those simple moments they'll probably remember for a long time. It's also about as clean as you could reasonably expect for a working goat farm. Yes, it smells like goats, that comes with the territory. If you're expecting a sterile petting zoo, this isn't it. It's a real farm and I actually appreciated that. Where the experience lost me was the hospitality. Maybe we arrived too close to closing, but the staff felt completely disengaged. Nobody was particularly welcoming, nobody seemed excited to talk about the farm or its products and asking simple questions felt like an inconvenience. You drive all the way out here because you're interested in what they're building. A little warmth would go a long way. The other issue was the flies. Again, I understand this is a farm. Flies are part of the environment. But when they're landing around food while ice cream is being scooped, it starts to cross from "that's farm life" into something that feels unpleasant. It was hard not to notice and it definitely took away from the experience. The goat milk ice cream was good, not quite my preference over traditional dairy ice cream, but still worth trying if you're visiting. Feeding the goats was fun, the grounds are beautiful and it's a fantastic stop for families with toddlers. I just wish the customer experience matched the scenery. This place has everything it needs to be unforgettable. A little more hospitality and a little more attention around the food service area would make a huge difference. I'd still recommend visiting but come for the farm, the photos and the goats. Just keep your expectations for the service a little lower.

Anyways, on our drive up to North Shore, we figured why not stop by and check out Wahiawa along the way. We came here on a mild December afternoon, and the weather had been raining on and off as of late. While the temp would hit between 70 to 78 degrees. But in other words, the grounds were a bit wet and muddy in certain areas of the trails. At least in the lower parts of the trail, not so much the upper garden area. As we entered, I found it odd that no one was manning the booth. We all assumed it was free for it being the holidays, so we walked straight in. Luckily, it wasn't overly crowded. And walking the main garden was so eye opening. Plenty of colorful and giant types of foliage to check, and read about, everywhere! As we went off deeper and explored the side trails. I kept getting bit by mosquitos left and right, all up and down my leg. YES, it's my own fault for forgetting to put on insect repellant. So highly I highly recommend insect repellant! And then the pockets of mud as you tour further and further along the lower trails. These pools are what gives life to mosquitos lol. I did wear my hiking shoes, but you can manage walking it with sandals. But better off with shoes versus sandals. Plenty of photo opportunities as the park really is nice, but to me it lacked the foliage that I admired seeing at Foster Botanical Garden (in which all the gardens are related). All in all, I really was just bitter about not being able to visit the huge Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Garden. They were closed due to road repaving, so we decided to come here instead. But no big deal. Onto the next!
