I recently started a home owner project involving a bit of sheet metal fabrication. I had drawn a rough diagram of what I wanted, detailing the size, shape, and metal gauge to be used for the project. Dave Peacock and team crafted the custom countertop that my contractor said was "impossible." I was set on a stainless steel, L shaped counter with a large curved peninsula. My (useless) general contractor couldn't find a fabricator who could do it. Surface Genius made it from one giant sheet of steel to fit perfectly. It has curved corners, a backsplash, and a built in sink. I am endlessly impressed with the artistry and quality. They also installed gorgeous retro reed glass in my new cabinets. The installation process was a lot of fun to watch, although obviously not super fun for their team to figure out getting this enormous piece inside my house... but they did it without having to dismantle any windows, doors, or walls! Dave and team are also very good humans. Their banter was hilarious and you can tell that they love their work and take pride in the epic pieces they create. The kitchen is the heart of my home and this counter is exactly how I dreamed it would be. And it will last forever and look better and better every year as it ages. I couldn't be happier. I found Dave using a Google search because I was in an impossible situation with my custom shape American Standard sink totally failed.Long story short when I called Dave he said he could fabricate a commercial quality stainless sink and extend the length unto the countertop and make a backsplash and come up on the windowsill with stainless steel. I was skeptical but Dave came by did some measurements and we worked out a price. Dave is everything that you could want to do your project because he is a man of his word. Dave did an incredible job installing a custom cover for my range hood air duct... not stopping until everything was done regardless of the time. We had some cabinet work done on our home and unfortunately our new hood got scratched in the process (about a foot long scratch). I called Dave and he was so kind on the phone and took his time to explain how the process would work. Started out with quick communication from Dave. He had one of his welders stop by my restaurant within a few hours and look at the job that needed to be completed. His welder, Lando told me that it would be a rather quick job, but he couldn't get back to my place till the following week. We set an appointment for the following Wednesday at 7:00 am. That Wednesday morning, the welder called at 7:15 am and told me there was heavier than usual traffic and he was running late. At least he called, right? When Lando finally arrived at 8:30 am, he told me that he didn't have the proper tools to do the job. What a waste of my time! I guess my time isn't of any value to them. Why even bother coming if you don't have the tools to do the job. Totally disappointed. read more

We purchased a new high-end cooktop and island vent from the once great Pacific Sales (now a subsidiary of BestBuy). After spending over $10k to have our island torn out and a new one custom made to receive the cooktop we discovered that none of the "installers" were willing to install an island hood in a vaulted ceiling!!! The good folks at Pacific Sales just shrugged their shoulders...zero help. (Guess where we're not buying our $20k refrigeration units) Fortunately I was able to get my son and law and nephew to help me do this install myself and we did a so-so job but the vent they sent was 2 pieces that fit over the pipe held together by magnets. There were another 2 pieces (an extension kit) that worked the same way and ran all the way up to the ceiling. It looked HIDEOUS!! After a few months of looking at this ugly mess I decided to see if I could find someone to help save me. I came across Surface Genius and Dave came out and assessed my situation. He ended up not only manufacturing a single piece stainless pipe but he and his crew tidied up my installation so we don't have to worry about having it fall out of the ceiling at the slightest quake!
