I bought a gown that was several sizes too large, and she was able to fit it perfectly. It was a tough alteration since the gown was all sequins, but it came out wonderfully and I got so many compliments! I have recommended her shop to anyone who is looking for great quality tailoring, and look forward to coming back soon. I picked up my suit and the alterations were a mess and the wedding was 6 days away. Thank God for A Plus! Brigitte (I apologize for any spelling errors) saw the desperation in my face and knew that she was down a tailor who was on vacation and shouldn't take in more work, but helped me out anyway. What's more amazing was that she knew I wasn't a local and that repeat business from me wasn't going to be much if any. But by Friday, my alterations were done spectacularly and for a fair price. I was born and raised in RI and I know we try to take care of our own, so even if you buy something at a department store or a national chain and you're going to pay for alterations anyway, take them to A Plus, (right across from Macy's next to the Cumberland Farms) and be treated like a valued customer as opposed to an obligation. I really can't say enough kind things other than, I will try to schedule future purchases around my trips to RI so I can have my tailoring done at A Plus.

When I came back to pick it up, I was told, "That'll be $50." I was surprised and said, "That's a lot for a little string adjustment." The woman replied, "No, we shortened the length." They had clearly altered the wrong part of the dress. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, she insisted that I had asked them to shorten it. Then she said maybe I had changed my mind, so that I didn't have to pay. Unbelievable! I was shocked. They ruined my dress and then blamed me for their error. I love supporting small businesses, but not ones that don't take responsibility or listen to their customers, and clearly don't know what they are doing.

The women here are kind, but that's about the only good thing I can say. I honestly don't know if they're inexperienced or just have never worked with a Black woman's curves before, but not one, not two, but three of my dresses were completely botched. I also had a top altered and it came back lopsided. After the first round of alterations, the owner tried to gaslight me, saying they had only adjusted the strap for my burgundy dress (which was never the main issue). I initially asked for the sides to be taken in because the bust area was too big, but somehow, that got lost in translation. So I paid AGAIN, for all to be fixed and what I got back was even worse. Everything felt rushed, uneven, and downright sloppy. I bawled my eyes out because these dresses were meant for my birthday trip. The white dress? It was the most horrendous one, imagine the outline of Sarah Baartman on a modern-day garment. That's how distorted the shape was. Even after a third attempt, the seams were still crooked and the dress was unwearable. I'm now left dressless for my trip and out of money. If I could give this place zero stars, I would.

She was completely professional and clearly very knowledgeable, with decades of experience. She took in my torso/bust seams from the sides and did not over-complicate the bustle (3 points was perfect for my train). Unlike some wedding dress seamstresses, Lucy did not tack on any unnecessary charges or work. She was very fair in her pricing ($210 for 3 point bustle, taking in torso and shoulder seams of lace dress with beading). From beginning to end, my wedding dress alterations took 3 weeks, which included an initial and then second fitting. Stay away from the fake seamstresses trying to make a buck off of you (asking a few too many questions that are not about your dress at all...? Not a good sign.). BOTTOM LINE: Lucy is trustworthy and does quality work.
