Dr Ostrow performed a melanoma excision on my lower leg in January, 2025. Her nurse, Maryam Majdi-Yazdi, ignored signs of infection (seroma, swelling, etc) while removing my sutures two weeks later; she did not document those symptoms in the clinical support notes or have a doctor look at the excision. When I sought medical treatment because the excision site had split open and the infection worsened, Maryam told me that the excision site had been fine when she removed the sutures (I have pictures from that show signs of infection the day sutures were removed) and told me that the excision had split open because I had worn sneakers. While taking antibiotics, I developed sweating/clammy skin, chills, extreme fatigue (i.e. sleeping 10-12 hours a day; I typically sleep 5-6 hours a day), appetite loss (i.e eating nothing for more than a week), etc. I contacted Dr. Ostrow as I was concerned that I may have developed a blood infection as I had had symptoms of a surgical site infection for almost 4 weeks prior to beginning antibiotics. Dr. Ostrow did NOT examine me; instead, she had one of her nurses tell me over the telephone that I had an upper respiratory infection completely unrelated to the surgical site staph infection. Keep in mind that I had avoided germ exposure, crowds, stores, etc for 2-3 weeks before and after the excision. My excision site remained an open wound with brown drainage for 2-3 months AFTER completing the single round of antibiotics prescribed. Dr, Ostrow told me that "these things just take a while to heal." She did NOT do any additional tests, prescribe an additional course of antibiotics or consider/recommend additional treatment. I would discourage patients from using Dr. Ostrow and/or her nurses for procedures. Or at the very least have an advocate/witness present. read more

An annual skin cancer exam for a person with a family history of skin cancer usually takes 45 minutes. She spent only 5 minutes yet billed for 45 minutes, providing far below standard of care. read more

I am very surprised with the service Dr. Ostrow provided. Great people skills! I spent more time waiting for the Dr. to show up than the consultation itself. Dr. Ostrow literally spent 5-7 minutes with me. After she took a culture sample of my finger, I was informed that I would get a call in 3-4 weeks for the results. She never really clarified what it was I might have. For all I know, it could be eczema...or something else. It seemed like she was busy tending to other patients because afterwards, I was dealing with the nurse. The nurse was very accommodating and answered my questions regarding what I might have and the medicine/creams for treatment. It was one of the worst doctor visits I experienced. At least tell me what I might have and how I can treat it within the 5-7 minute consultation, don't leave it to the nurse to deal with my minor problem. read more

Dr. Ostrow is a rarity in the Carmel Valley/Del Mar area - a dermatologist who doesn't try to sell you expensive products and/or services to slow down the aging of your skin. Instead she deals with skin cancer, acne, and other skin maladies. She was wonderful with my son about a worrisome mole on his back. She took pictures and measured it and we're monitoring it. She is also trying to help him with his acne. Both when my son saw him and when I saw her about a mole I was worried about, she did a quick but thorough skin check to check for cancer everywhere on my body - including scalp. I would highly recommend her. read more

As a Plastic Surgeon I can assure you that Dr. Ostrow is a great Dermatologist. I recently had a skin cancer check as I had a lot of sun exposure as a kid growing up in San Diego. She thoroughly checked me from head to toe, including my entire scalp. She and her medical assistant were very pleasant and made me feel very comfortable. I would definitely recommend her! read more

I've been seeing Dr Ostrow for about five years now. In my opinion, she is a topnotch dermatologist. She has seen me through two minor skin cancer operations and her surgeon work is exceptional. My scars are very minimal. Dr Ostrow seems not to have great people skills when you first meet her but I think she is just shy. I can ask her any questions about what is happening to me and she always explains everything at great lengths. When she realizes that I'm very worried, she reassures me and tells me exactly what to expect. I would recommend her to anyone, I've even taken my mother in to see her. read more

The nurse was pleasant, and then Dr. Ostrow carefully examined my symptoms, took biopsies, and through testing figured out what my condition was. I had a regular skin check with Dr. Ostrow several months ago and when I asked about what she could offer for dark patches on my face, she said she could offer bleaching cream and then laser removal, but she said she'd want to do a test spot with the laser before doing all the spots, just to be sure it would work for my skin. She gave me a signed receipt: $450 for laser treatment. That sounded good, so I used the cream for 8-9 months and then called to schedule the laser removal test. It took two months to get on her calendar for the test spot, which I expected.I did not expect her office to call me at work on the day before the appointment and ask me what kind of a laser test spot I needed. I didn't know what to answer and explained my previous visit with her. They then called me back and said the laser wasn't available during my appointment time, even though it had been scheduled two months ago. I was ok with rescheduling, so long as I didn't need to wait two more months, but they told me to schedule with some other Dr. Ross who I have never met before. Really? I got the total brush off after waiting two months and now I'm back to zero. I actually liked Dr. Ostrow when I met her and felt I could trust her to do this procedure, but now I have no respect for the way she treats patients. Why did she tell me she could do this procedure and give me a receipt and an appointment if she was just going to refer me to someone else? Unprofessional. Find someone you can really trust. read more
