In regard to CUSTOMER SERVICE: On 12.31.25, I drove to Stack's as I had suspect my alternator went on my car. Sean was great to test my battery which was low and confirmed it was indeed my alternator and discussion took place to have it repaired on 01 02.26, all great and good. I asked for a pdf of my receipt and Ryan stated he emailed me the receipt and if I didn't get it to call back. I called back a few minutes later stating I did not get the receipt and "Tom" started yelling at me over the phone "I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS! I HAVE CALLS COMING IN! CALL BACK AT 5PM I AM BUSY! I AM HANGING UP! I was in shock how I was spoken to! So poorly, it's enough for me to reconsider going back there! I've had two experiences with stacks so far. First when we first moved in my wife got a nail in her tire. Since they are located close to us we drove the car up there to get a plug put in. They did the plug free of charge and this let me know the type of people I was dealing with. After being a lifelong chain mechanic user (Mavis etc) I decided based on my first experience to bring my 2013 Scion XB there for maintenance. I knew my car needed some work and TJ broke down exactly what needed to get done and what immediately needed to be addressed. He also informed me of the things I could do myself (air filters, battery). I had them replace front rotors and brakes. In terms of price it was about 50 bucks more than a chain auto store. HOWEVER, this 50 dollar fee is a small price to pay when it comes to a few things. 1. They are a local business 2. I will be dealing with the same people Everytime I go 3. Being a local business it's in their best interest to do good work as bad work spreads like wildfire. Stacks is my go to place for my car repairs. From oil changes to major repairs, I have found them to be trustworthy and super efficient. They actually supply me with a loaner while doing my repairs. Unless you have an extended warrantee with the dealer of your car, who does that? No one. TJ is a down to earth service technician who explains what your car needs in layman's term that you can understand. We all know how easy it is for someone in a repair facility to make your head spin telling you what your car needs (or doesn't need). That is not the case here. The last time I took my car in, it was for an oil change and rough idle. They found the problem and my car runs better now then when I bought it 4 years ago. Seriously! Now that's some excellent mechanic work, there. I've never experienced any "surprise charges" when picking up my car. The estimate I get, is always pretty damn close to what I pay. I even get a discount as a first responder. I'm 62 years old and have been experiencing mechanics for over 40 years. At some point, you know the what bad work and getting ripped off are. My roommate and I have been very weary of this place ever since we moved to North Babylon. For me personally, I had an issue with my battery dying. I brought my car there, spoke with TJ and they put a new battery in but they also ripped out my radio and said that was a problem. So, I have no radio in my car. Thanks for that but at least my battery was working. Then, my power steering went and my battery died again about 3 months later. I was told it was an issue with my alternator and my battery. So, I brought my car to stacks and TJ quoted me $1,080!!! Just to put in a new alternator and battery. I thought this a ridiculous quote and they were overcharging me for "labor" to the tune of something like $475. So, the next day I called back and asked TJ if he could do any better cause I told him I could find OEM non-remanufacured alternators online for way cheap than they were charging me. Then, he told me i could buy it and give it to them but there's going to be a 20% fee. Why? I told TJ this and he quickly changed the price to $850. This quote isn't horrible but I knew they were ripping me somehow and I could get a better deal. The labor cost they were charging is insanely high still. The way they tell you they always tell you their the "honest guys" and want to try to work with you... I just don't believe. After going from $1,080 to $850 so quickly proves that to me. So I had AAA pick up my car from Stacks to go to another place. But the driver offered their services for $785 total for everything. Plus, they gave me a 3 year warranty on everything so if anything goes wrong, I just bring it back and they'll fix it free. Stacks did not offer this. Thank you AAA for hooking it up. They even dropped me off back home while my car was being worked on. I dropped off my car around 2pm. They gave me a lift back home and then drove my car back to me at 7pm. Parked it in my parking spot, and it ready to roll. Also, L.I. Auto in Lindenhurst gave me a quote for $725 so if you're looking to get an "honest" quote, get yourself a quote from LI Auto or if you have AAA, get it from them. I was going to recommend my mother there for an oil change after I had a decent first experience, but their colors came out. I would never recommend this outfit, not even for air in the tires. Overpriced and predatory. I feel sorry for the unknowledgeable or elderly (like my mom) who go there and get taken for a very expensive, unnecessary service. If you want reliable service explained and broken down to you in language you can understand each and every step of the way by "friends" who have your best interest in mind, then this is your go to place! Ok so nobody really ever talks about how they spent a lot of money on something they didn't want to but when you have no choice you wanna make sure that at least its worth it. These guys are awesome fixed everything wrong with my car in a timely fashion even took me home so I didn't have to wait the whole day there. I was shocked by the service. They even send you a report of what they found with pictures and inform you about it so you can learn about the issues you have so they don't repeat in the future. I don't have a "car guy" but this is as close to a hook up for a legit business as you're gonna get. They def have my future business. Nicest demeanor of mechanics I have met. Just has that neighborhood shop feel and are all very personable. They have a courtesy shuttle service for those with just one car. Ok to my service... I needed an oil channge, inspection, and my blinker changed. They were very open with what they had to do and showed me how my old shop (Sayville Ford) had thrown new brakes on old rotators etc. This included needing new tires as mine were from 2012. (My car is a 2013 go figure.) All together over 700, but for all the work being done seemed quite reasonable. They did mess up with fixing my blinker and did the back instead of front. I stopped back they admitted what probably happened and fixed it within 10 minutes. Frankly their mistake was the most promising thing to me. The candor and honesty about it made me more confident about continuing to go there. Definitely plan to go back. read more

Could not be more happy with the service I received at Stack's! I found them this summer when I had a nail in my tire, and even though they were busy and it was the end of the day, they still took the time to get it taken care of right on the spot for me! I was able to enjoy the rest of my weekend worry free. I recently took my car in for an overdue oil change an inspection and was so excited to learn that they have a complimentary drop off service around town, too! Car repair made stress free! Advertised in local paper, front brakes $179 no gimmicks. Get the phone call, I need new rotars. They want $400 for front brakes (pads & rotars). I call around to auto parts stores & find the parts total $100. They want $300 in labor??? For a job that takes an hour. C'mon guy! I can do them myself but, rather just have em done. Found a mechanic one town over. $270 for everything. That's reasonable. Had to laugh, when picking up car, the guy behind the counter says... U ain't gonna find a place for cheaper. I visited stacks for state inspection and minor noise problem in my car. They said like have to change steering fluid and other few other things and charged me $1,300 /-. though it was not solved the problem instead it was making lot of noise. I called them in the next day and they said like they have changed the fluid, it will take couple of days to solve the noise problem. I waited for 2 weeks without any luck !. I took the car again to the service center. Again they are making big list with an estimate of $600 !!. I am not sure if i can trust these guys again !. I went to service center purely based on online review and had very bad experience with lot of money loss. i have a feeling like these guys are manipulating online reviews. Came in for an inspection on a Saturday when they were booked but TJ fit took my car right away and got it done quickly. While I was waiting, I heard him on the phone telling a customer that the noises his car was making were due to a common issue with that model and would cost thousands of dollars to replace the part, but that he wouldn't recommend spending the money because the car was perfectly safe, just noisy. My car broke down on the parkway this morning. I managed to drive it to stacks. They gave me an estimate to fix the car for $1200. I thought that was way too high and decided to get a second opinion and to bring a man with me. Sad yes in this day and age I had to do that. Well I was charged only $700 to do the same amount of work! On top of it all Stacks charged me $120 for the estimate. When the mechanic only looked at the car for a half an hour. Wish I could give no stars. My girlfriend and I have been coming here for a few years. It always seems that no matter what we go in for ( simple oil change, to checking my temp gage) it turns into thousands of dollar repairs for my gf. When we go in together they try to sell me on extra repairs but nothing like with her car. In 5 years we have spent enough ( unnecessarily ) to have bought two cars. Latest was telling us we needed new brakes, when they had just done this less than 2 months ago. My brother used to go here and experienced the same situation. I've just wanted the average "Joe" to know that if you bring your car to these guys, they will try to bullsh*t you into work you may not need. I have a volvo xc70 and this is my true story: I brought my car into stacks bc of a check engine light and an inspection. They told me that the check engine light was on bc of a gas leak error msg in the computer. It would take 99$ to "smoke test" the gas system and $15 for a gas cap. They also said i needed tires. I got the price from stacks for new tires and those prices were easily 40% higher than the price at pep boys for the top of the line tires. I chose to goto a pep boys to have my tires replaced there. I thought they would fail my inspection but after checking my tires treads, it was apparent that i really didn't need tires to pass inspection. I was told i need control arms. Told me the wheel could fly off while driving if i let it go. I decided to have these done and this is where the dishonesty began. I was told Stacks could only obtain these control arms attached to the ball joints and this was the only way you could purchase them. I called up volvo parts in smithtown to ask about ball joints being connected to the control arm. The parts manager laughed at me and said try another service shop implying that one could buy these parts seperate. This meant i also had to pay more for the job to also replace the ball joints. Since i could purchase these control arms without buying pre-attached ball joints, it meant i didnt have to have the ball joints done afterall ($$$ saved). I purchased the control arms from volvo at fraction of the price of these control arm ball joint combo parts that stacks had told me i needed. 1 phone call to the dealership parts manager at volvo saved me a ton of money. After completing the installation of the control arms, the technicians then gave my vehicle an inspection which it passed. However when picking up the car after hours, Their was no inspection sticker but a note saying the inspection hadn't passed. When asking the mechanic the following morning about the lack of sticker and blinking engine light, he told me i had to drive 75 miles then come back so he could reset the computer and then get my sticker and engine light turned off. I brought it back in and they removed the blinking check engine light and issued me an inspection sticker. Why didn't somone communicate this to me? I've had inspections done on a this car before and dont remeber having to drive 75 miles to reset the vehichles computer in to pass tje inspection. Seems odd that they check engine light was still on after they fixed the gas leak with a new cap but forget to reset it? The chexk engine light is back on again just 2 months later and i'm aftaid to go back to Stacks in fear that tgey may try and take advantage of me. Thats tge feeling i got with my service experience. To put a cherry on top: they have a promotion that was going on at the time i brought the vehichle in the shop... Spend $500 and get a 10$ gas card. When i asked about this gas card after spending $850, they told me the promotion was for last month and had expired. When i got my south bay ad, the ad for a free gas card was there again. It never expired! They bullsh*tted me again!! Was looking forward to a great relationship with honest mechanics. You wont find it here. Look elsewhere!!! read more

I came to this service station because my family had been going here for as long as they lived in the neighborhood. Additionally, I figured it was convenient to have them so close, and they could drop me off and pick me up. So when I was due for an inspection and off work anyway for home construction, I didn't think twice to go to them. I asked for the inspection, an oil change, and to check for a tire rotation. A few hours later while at home, I get a call saying I passed the inspection, but my rear brakes are shot. They'll do the pads and rotors on the rear axle for $400. I'm sure they get people to agree by putting them on the spot, and that they already have the car. I gave them the approval, then thought about it and checked against a reliable shop I've used in the past. They were overcharging me by about $150. I called Stack's back, told them they could do the job since I approved it, but I asked them to perform a tire rotation and alignment for no cost. They did what appears to be an okay job, and I have the paperwork to prove their work, but I don't like a place that overcharges. If I hadn't thought to ask, I would have been none the wiser. read more

This place likes to lie and steal your money. My truck wasn't starting. In the long run it was a computer problem but they didn't realize it so they changed my fuel pump. It lasted a little while but soon later started not working again. Instead of omitting their mistake they fixed the computer problem by installing $3 dollar jumper wire and proceeded to tell me there was no problem. All they had to do was be honest and it would have been no problem but they chose to lie and now I will never use them again. read more

Customer Service and politeness earns an A+... but VERY expensive. Needed an inspection and asked them to diagnose a rough idle. They indicated engine mounts were broken (which I believe) and needed to be changed. $500 for parts and labor. They charged me $80 a piece for the mounts (2), which run about $20 each, and they charged $160 labor each to change them. These were not the primary mounts, rather support brackets. Three bolts each, and no components in the way...easy access. Should have taken any competent mechanic about 20 minutes each TOPS (that includes the diagnostic time). $160 labor for 20 minutes of work seems very expensive to me. I understand parts mark up and having to keep the lights on, and pay staff, etc... but I feel a little more moderation is needed. As an aside, The rough idle persisted, and I brought it back... turns out the Main Motor mount needed to be replaced also, which is MUCH more difficult to change. Surprisingly, they only wanted to charge me $120 labor this time to change it (I guess they felt bad they hosed me on the first go-round). I ended up changing the main mount myself, took me about an hour. read more
